Even with Murphy's question marks, still not sure I wouldn't take him over Klub straight up. When you consider that taking him likely still allows us to court Ewers (at least according to IT) then accepting a commitment from Murphy seems like a pretty low-floor endeavor, no?

Nahlin literally says in the article Murphy is a better fit for Sark's system as a drop back passer.

I agree. No way he stays a 5 star through signing day.

Well, given that the 5 star rating is based off their pro potential not college potential....I can see him staying a 5 star if he is able to camp and play games.

I would have to look at what 150-175 ranked QBs were this year, but that seems low based on his videos that are out there.

I refuse to believe Gerry proposed that title. Watching Nahlin catch second-hand embarassment from himself is truly a spectacle to behold considering the other forced jokes he's published. Watching Nahlin twist himselves into knots about accepting Ewers may not end up at Texas per his prediction is certainly a silver-lining to the non-ideal outcome.

Gerry also posted a week ago about what a mistake it would be going out of state for a QB this year with a talent like Klubnick available and the impact he could have on recruiting versus the negative perception of going out of state.....so I can entirely believe that title reflects Gerry's thoughts.

Law of unintended consequences. Fewer kids are going to get scholarships to P5 schools if the schools know they can cherry pick transfers that don't have to sit out a year. This thing is going to get worse too, not better. Why would you take a flyer on a borderline HS prospect late in the cycle when you can fill an immediate need from the portal?

Image result for this business will get out of hand gif red october

Can someone link me to this fucking post that dipshit made while I was gone?

Quoted it for you in 2021 thread but here's the copy and paste version.

Not sure where to post this,  but @closetojumping update:

He’s alive and...alive. I’m not sure we can say well. This motherfucker played the entire round of golf masked up like he was about to rob a liquor store. When we paused to let other people play through our group he made a point several times of busting out of the bushes to scare the fuck out of other golfers and field marshals. He takes his virtue signaling up to 11. Anyway, he said he hasn’t been able to engage mentally in football because of the uncertainty of everything, and unless he can get 100% invested it just doesn’t hold his interest. He’s stopped watching the astros too. I suspect he’ll be back after a couple of games are played. Or he’ll be dead because he walked into a fucking gas station like that.

Enter Texas. First reported by Mike Scarborough of Tiger Bait and then confirmed by Jason Suchomel of Orangebloods, the Longhorns are looking to add Lourd to the 2021 recruiting class as a preferred walk on who could eventually earn a scholarship.

Texas only has three scholarship quarterbacks on the roster for spring practice this year and while new head coach Steve Sarkisian understands that the days of four or five scholarship quarterbacks is probably a thing of the past, he is still working to add depth. And since graduate transfers want to compete for actual playing time, landing a prospect like Lourd with scholarship upside could be the perfect fit.

247Sports recruiting analyst Greg Biggins watched Lourd at the 2020 Elite 11 regional in Los Angeles and came away impressed:

“Lourd was consistent throughout the camp and threw the ball as well as we’ve seen him. You won’t find many players who work harder on their game and it’s really starting to pay off. He looked very comfortable throwing the entire route tree and his confidence is high right now. He showed touch on the deep ball, is very good throwing on the run, was accurate all camp long and made every throw look easy.

“He has filled out over the last year and looks bigger and stronger and his arm more live as well. He has a tight release and gets the ball out quick. He’s very solid mechanically and has made a nice jump as a player this off-season.”

Lourd plans to announce his decision on Thursday.

I mean, in my mind, the fucking guy is a step away from being a coordinator. He's closer than all but about 200 people on the planet.

We need to figure out how to create some sort of neg swarm that hurts but doesn't kill, until it needs to kill. Like a vow of unity that 25 of us commit to that immediately negs things like the following:

    1) A position coach elsewhere taking an analyst or off-field role here. See also: standing coordinators for P5 taking position roles here.

    2) 3 man front ignorance.

    3) Corey Redding moving to linebacker.

    4) Advocating for Oscar Giles as a recruiter.

I'm sure there are 30 more.

I agree in principle....but that sounds a lot like the treaty agreements that started WW1....

I'd say Austin is weird and Portland if f'in nuts.

Austin is weird and dirty....Portland is taking the Austin homeless resource center and just covering the whole downtown....

    Beautiful rose garden though.

Weirdness has changed in Austin, Portland, and Seattle. Austin use to be Willie Nelson and Vietnam vet liberal. Seattle and Portland use to have their own flavor based on the fishing industry. San Francisco was home to flower children. Now they are all pretty standard California liberal. I wouldn't call any of them weird at all: It isn't counterculture. It is like someone coloring their hair red, getting a mohawk, wearing leather and going to a punk bar. Everyone is the same and they are just doing the same thing their friends are doing so they can fit into their own clique.

Look, I get the excitement because it's the KoolAid hour of a new coach hire - with the fresh new hire smell, but if you don't see a reason for people to be trepidatious about Sarkisian and his hires, I don't know what to tell you. So let's do the run down -- he's 46-35 all time including 31-26 in conference. He's never won a conference title despite having the most talented team in the conference by a large margin in each season at USC. He was fired for being drunk on the sidelines (and failing spectacularly in his duties as HC). He's a recovering alcoholic coming to the most stressful job of his career in a city that parties hard as fuck. There's certainly some wiggle room in the level of excitement and belief.

As to the hand wringing over the personnel support department, when you hire some terrible evaluators to your staff (Terry Joseph for example) you put a lot more pressure on the personnel department. Again, I think anyone having some mild trepidation about unforced errors from that department is well within the bounds of reason. This isn't the same as questioning an Urban Meyer decision. Until Sark proves that he's grown and changed on and off the field, there's room for question and concern.

You would have loved that guy they hired in 1957 who just went 5-5 at Washington the year before......

Seriously....Does Sark have the potential to fail spectacularly?  Sure.  However, this is supposed to be fun so stopped being such a wet blanket about everything and at least wait until he does actually screw up somewhere before you start getting afraid this might not work out.

I mean it isn't like it's your money they are paying him. If it all implodes we do it again.  It's still infinitely better then holding onto Herman another 12 months and seeing where we are then.  What do you have to actually lose if you get positive and hopeful that this is going to work?

BTW by all reports out of Bama and Atlanta he has already proved he has changed on the field and off it.....

As for Austin being a city that "parties hard as..."  Seriously?  Most of Austin is copy cat cookie cutter developments with some clubs and 6th street.  "Parties hard as.." doesn't even begin to apply to Austin.  It's a great place to live if want to live in a metro area I guess, but the idea that it parties hard is hillarious.

  12. 1. He brought in Hughes to run the program.  Maybe Hughes and Chang didn't jive?  Maybe they didn't like how Chang and company did things and are wanting to go in a different direction.  Maybe Chang is a die hard Herman guy and they are wanting to remove those types form the program. Maybe Chang thinks Herman got a raw deal and gave Sark double rods when they met....We don't have a clue.  However, at this point in time....I am going to trust Sarkisian's decision making on who to retain and who to cull a lot more than I am going to put faith in Herman's original hires.... I mean I love Carrington and he seems to be great, but lets not forget Chang was hired by the same guy who hired the football coaches for the past few years......Again we don't know, maybe Sark wanted to keep Chang but Chang didn't want to stay or work for Hughes or whatever.  Maybe he was burnt out on the recruiting stuff.....who knows.  Maybe Chang has been coasting on the rest of the staff I have no freaking idea.  Is it possible that Sark had the opportunity to retain Chang and chose to can him for an idiotic reason.....Sure......do I really think that is what happened?  No.

I was with you until this. Brian Jean-Mary and Coleman Hutzler were both astronomically better than anything Stoops would be able to field.

Yes but I am speaking to the totality of the original staffs, not just lb coaches.  Hutzler wasn't included in that.  BJM was the one coach on Strong that I truly liked other than OL coach who was a complete disaster.

  14. Just now, closetohumping said:

Nothing mild about those tweets.  They both said their sources were Sark.  And Davis tweeted at 6 am?  Yeah Sark wanted to put out the fire.

No, it was a mild tweet at 8am not 6am.  Simple statement to Davis. Not some giant damage control release or something like that.

  15. Heck even if it was close to going down, which I am still dubious on:

--SuperK literally said he doesn't know if his source is legit---its like Nahlin saying he knows the DC but can't share it yet but it's awesome.....If his source is Stoops as has been reported, then he is reporting it without actually believing it...otherwise why the need for the "Not sure if true" statement.

--The only actual report was some hack in bama who is regarded to some extent as being linked to Stoops and has supposedly inaccurately floated his name in the past for jobs.

--Every other report parroted this jackwagon and was heavily cached in terms of "we are hearing", "we expect", "reportedly", etc.  Not one single twit in the sports media business except this tool none of us had heard from before last night could find any confirmation?  The squid, rapgamelarry, bevoboulevard, and ceddyb would like a word with him.

--The only actual reporting on this from the Texas side was a mild tweet from B. Davis and FCB that Sark had told them Stoops wasn't going to be the coach....

--Let me remind you that Bohls and Golden basically declared Jihad on CDC 2 weeks ago.  If you actually believe those 2 wouldn't have gotten wind of this, or gotten the info on what happened and used it to smear CDC......you are kidding yourselves.

So again, I don't believe the reports it was actually happening.

But...if it was....as much as I detest Mike Stoops as a human being, and think he would have been a horrible hire, he is still a better LB coach than 90% of Herman's staff and 85% of Strong's were and nobody said squat to prevent any of those idiotic hires.  So either Sark is more aware of the world he is coaching in, more open to feedback, or doesn't think he is infallible to the point he can't admit a mistake on a coach.....All are improvements and good signs to me regarding where we are.  It is certainly an improvement over at least the past 4 head coaches....I can't recall if McWilliams thought he was infallible or not.
