I was surprised to see my uncle and cousin in squares, as they ride. I'd figure getting a pointed toe into a stirrup would be easier, but I'm guessing it doesn't really affect them enough. Granted, they don't have the crazy three inch wide square up front like some of these guys, but...

From what I have been around getting your foot in stirrup isn't the problem with big square toes......its getting your foot out when your falling off.....I know some cowboys who ride with square toes and I know some who don't anymore.

I can't remember which ranch it was, might have been 6666's, but one banned their cowboys from riding with square toed boots after a bunch of said accidents.

Yep.  For actual ranch work, a square toed work boot every time.  Most spend 99% of their time in a truck or ATV.  Not a horse.  Fancy round toes are for the rodeo and dinner.

That would depend on the part of the state your in.  Up here you gotta chase way too many cattle through brush country to do it from a truck.

If you're actually a cowboy you either get ropers or the more narrow version of the square toe. Whatever the fuck you city people are calling it because getting a full square toe consistently in and out of your saddle is a bitch.

I'll agree if talking the full on duck feet looking square toes.

The narrower square toes work fine for dressier occassions.

For some reason I never knew they were "John Wayne Toes." I never made the jump myself, and still go with my ole round-toe'd ones, but I've been tempted by a couple of pair.

Technically the John Wayne Square toe is more of a snip toe then full square.

I have a pair of Lucchese's with the John Wayne toe like below.  They are dang comfortable. My grandfather had 2 pairs of Leddys which I would love to get pair of but I can't convince myself to spend that much cash on boots.

    Brady Quinn:

“The bottom line is that Tom Herman, I’m a bit surprised they ended up hanging onto him,” Quinn said. “I think if there’s a big-name coach that’s out there that would have decided to go to Texas, he probably wouldn’t be in this position right now.”

Let me ask you this, does Brady Quinn dress like the kind of person you tell stuff to you want to keep quiet and hush hush?

There is only one proper toe on a boot. The Lucchese roper.  Sammy Lucchese was my dad's best friend, unfortunately my dad diagnosed his oral cancer that killed him.

I don't know, considering Sam Lucchesee reated a square toe design specifically for John Wayne.....I figure he was fine with square toes.

"Peck wasn’t the only familiar face to call on Lucchese, either. In October 1951, a tall man blew through the door into Lucchese’s shop and requested a pair of boots with a distinctive square toe. But this man was more popular than Peck, at least at the time. Though he’d been cast in small roles since the 1920s, his career had really taken off two years earlier, with a starring role in war film that had earned him an Academy Award nomination.

The man, of course, was John Wayne, and he was at the start of his career as an All-American Western hero. So naturally, he needed a pair of cowboy boots.

The square toe on his boots became known as the famous – and controversial – “John Wayne Toe,” and like Peck, Wayne became a frequent customer and proponent of Lucchese. In fact, several of his style of boots – notably goat and alligator leather – can be found on the Lucchese website. "

Yea I can’t imagine a true checking writing BMD or their close buddies hanging out at a deer lease. I would imagine they own the fucking ranch but of course I could be wrong.

You'd be surprised. I work with a lot of "absentee landowners"---read big money deep pocketed people who live in metro areas but own large expanses of ranch/farm land as either a tax writeoff/shelter or beause it's Texas and that's what we do here.

Plenty of them have their ranch managers manage specifically for cattle or crop production without a care for wildlife production.  It makes more sense for them to pay some fancy guided hunting operation to line them up on a $10-$15,000 buck and be done with it then to try and manage and hunt on their own land.

I do have one gentleman I work with that owns a large spread that is managed for wildlife...he owns the place and still calls it the hunting lease.....

So Urban wants to wait for Fox and OSU to be done before he takes the Texas job? The fox thing makes no sense. If he cared enough about coaching he’d want to be at the school making moves, not on TV wasting time. And the OSU finishing thing is even stupider. So he values OSU more than Texas? Seems like a good thing for Texas. Maybe if they play OSU in the future he can just bend over for them.

In defense of the Fox thing it has been reported since all this started that he wants to fulfill his commitment to Fox.

I stand by what I said previously, because it’s fucking happened. This flaccid “vote of confidence” is the lamest one I’ve ever seen. The hedging afterwards with reporters is also directly in line with the release itself.

Here’s the deal. Crystal Conte isn’t running any of this. The game is being played above his head at this point.

    1) He showed up at first and tried to push back on Urban Meyer. This is after he argued for keeping Herman last year when the money was lined up.

    2) Then, when things went back and forth with Urban Meyer, he starts to fucking float James Franklin as his candidate and attempts a push on it. Nope.

    3) After Urban Meyer indicates “I’m thinking no”, CDC comes back to the table with, wait for it, his nomination of his fucking buddy, Sonny Dykes. Sonny fucking Dykes.

    4) From there, he’s out of the game. He’s doing what he’s told and he hasn’t handled this shit well. He’s a political suit who doesn’t understand how it’s played on a stage this big.

    5) He’s tried to dance around firing Herman and we’re left with this kind of shit because the guy we want won’t be available until next Sunday at the earliest.

    6) All of this bullshit is because CDC thinks he understands the roster and how recruiting works, btw. He also straight up doesn’t think ATM is an issue right now for Texas in recruiting. He’s out of his fucking depths.

Take this and post it wherever the fuck you want. Tweet it at him. Ask the IT guys what to believe. Send it on a carrier pigeon to a BMD. The hacks at AAS, 247 and Obloods don’t know a fucking thing besides what Crystal Conte tells them, so they’re not going to have a clue other than to say “no wai!”.

This fits with a lot of what has been reporting and I have no connections of any kind that would give me any reason to dispute it...

But I am shocked/disappointed that CDC has gone from being this out of this world awesome hire to a political suit who is in over his head and deserves to be called Crystal.... just surprising.

But like I said it fits and goes along with Caddox losing his mind on here a week ago....just really disappointed in CDC

You above all people here should know how negotiations with a mercurial buyer or seller work. It’s never any one thing, but there is always some combo of things stacking up that can sabotage the deal, and avoiding that is how a deal can wrap.

I’ve lived in Texas my whole life and grew up in a predominantly hispanic neighborhood. But hey, you can work with whatever image you’d like in order to make yourself feel better regarding about how I or anyone else pronounce shit.

That considered, the premise that calling people here who disagree with you about kolaches a bunch of know-nothing yankees is so tedious that it isn’t even worth rebutting.

BBQ is another one that a lot of you dipshits revel in getting pompous over, while you simultaneously want to claim how down home and folksy you are. Franklins is great, sure. So is Pinkerton’s in Houston. They’re also great with the BBQ sauce they offer. Gasp!! Yep. Get over yourself. The worst BBQ I ever had was so good I couldn’t stand it, but whatever.

Also, Bill Miller makes great fucking breakfast tacos. But feel free to now expound upon how there is only like one great breakfast taco place and it’s the one that you like. It feels inevitable.

I never called anyone a yankee.  They just don't know any better.  Yeah Franklin's is good but I agree there are plenty of good BBQ joints that don't require you to stand in line to eat.

And here they are - the fucking circlejerking, pretentious food clowns who can't accept what's been indoctrinated into common vernacular in Texas regarding what a kolache is. I'm guessing you guys all also take a hearty amount of pride in correcting millennial dipshits when they misuse "literally", correct anyone when they use "can" instead of "may", and are ardent supporters of the handlebar-moustached bartender movement to didactically correct anyone who deins to show up at a bar and order a vodka martini because of what constituted a martini in the strictest since roughly 80 years ago. Congrats on your pedantry, day crew.

Meanwhile, there are numerous fucking shops selling kolaches with sausage, brisket, boudin, ham, cheese and sundry other savory items throughout the state, and calling them that. "Well I'd never order a 'kolache' from Shipley's or the Kolache Shoppe. Pfffft. I'd never stoop to such levels, sir. I happen to travel out to Rosenberg or Columbus when I crave a proper klobisnicky, as they're known by the pure Czech epicurean connoisseurs, and I look down on the rest of you heathens the entire 90 minute drive there, and as I rush the 90 minutes back before blowing out my asshole on my curated Japanese toilet." Good for you guys. I'm sure y'all are all a blast at parties.

Also, getting some pretty definitive statements from places that Urban Meyer is more or less just working to destroy Herman's career and isn't incredibly interested in the Texas job after hearing about the "complications" at length from a former beloved, sweet, magnanimous HC at Texas who'd never, ever worry about anyone else impacting his legacy from his time at Texas.

If Urban is trying to destroy Herman.....the simple thing to do is say he isn't interested and let the process move forward.

As for your other comments....you pronounce Mexia with an X sound don't you?  And you probably call the Rio Grande the Rio Grandy....and like I said you call Bill Millers good BBQ.

I'm not a food snob but I am going to defend my culture against the unwashed hordes that think "Kolachy Factory" is anything other than piss.
