I would love Ed O to roll up with a couple of 20 something smoke shows. Mumble something about the governor, and committee. Then say something about not letting the talent or his entertainment run the show. He won't, but a man can dream.

Mike was, imo, maybe the most honest person in college football. Certainly, in the last 20+ years. He was funny, honest, a good coach and not a cheater. He was great for college football and I miss him too.

I said it in the Caldwell thread and I'll say it again here. Head injuries are extremely serious and should be treated as such. I'm not in the Caldwell should replace Arch camp at all, but I do think Caldwell should start this game purely for the future mental health of 21 year old. All that said, I think your assessment is accurate. Why reveal the starter until absolutely required. Leave as much doubt as possible.. I just hope given we are likely starting Caldwell, Sark goes with the conservative game plan our OL can actually execute. Or course, if he does, I anticipate Caldwell does well, and we will beat Vandy by 2 or more TDs. The fact that we altered the offense will, clearly, help folks understand that the QB hasn't been the issue this year. They will finally understand where the real issue lies. Because Surly posters are extremely reasonable.

Well, that's typically true but requires that all the base level functionality has to be operating well for the first step, blocking being the most fundamental. Good offensive coaches adjust the strategy according to the talent and ability they have available. Have a mobile QB who's good at improvisation outside a standard pocket, move the pocket more and get the QB into space. Have deficiencies at OL, run a simpler blocking scheme and look for quick throws that allow the QB to get rid of the ball faster. Have a world class RB, run the ball a lot using different plays to utilize him as best you can. I note all these as there are specific examples I can think of for each that various HCs and OCs are using even this year. Beyond that, if a DC schemes up a game plan that slows the one being used, altering the game plan to use the gaps/hole left by the DCs game plan is standard for great OCs. Take what the D gives you is a well known, over used term for a reason. Its accurate. Problem for us is the Texas offense has had running issues for 2 years now, but it's gotten markedly worse this year. That's due to both not having a premier RB (no hate on Wisner as he is a very good college RB) and an OL that had difficulties with the more complex blocking scheme Sark deploys. The biggest issue is Sark's consistent reliance on similar game plans, and an unwillingness to move away from them. He's predictable and many here often call series of plays he runs. Series of plays often. If we can do it, I assure you a college DC can too. Add on top of that refusing to simplify the blocking scheme and align to a plan which better fits the skill positions and OL is just not something Sark likes to do until absolutely forces. See MSU and OU game for examples.

Well, QB development ultimately should culminate in being drafted by the NFL. If a college coach is running an offense that is not allowing his QB to flourish because it's not to his strengths or confidences (yet) and worse decreases his draft status I would say it is poor development. Either that coach needs to develop the player to be capable of running the offense he calls or align his offense to the capability of that QB. How is forcing a player to run a system he's not confident nor is the talent capable of not a QB development issues? Similarly, that he is NOT capable of running the offense the coach is calling is a clear indicator that the coach didn't properly develop that player for that offense. I don't see how you keep missing this point. I'll add that if the player isnt capable of running the offense being calling and there isn't anyone who is capable on the team... isn't that also a player evaluation AND development issue?

Well, what we do know, based on data is that we had 2 QBs in a row who were 5* recruits and had been productive earlier in their careers than later in their careers. We also know one of the 2 was at another school prior to coming to Sark. Now, if you don't want to blame Sark for this decrease in production and accuracy fine. What nobody can deny is that both performed better when the standard script Sark prefers (complex blocking, 5 step drops, long WR routes) is dropped for a simpler one (moving the QB, shorter WR routes, quicker crossing patterns, less complex blocking and designed QB runs). There are multiple examples for both QBs that when allowed to play to their strengths rather than forcing them into Sark's preferred offense both QBs showed demonstrable and statistical improvement in their play. I'm not sure how you logic around consistently refusing to script a game plan that aligns to the strengths of your players isn't the fault of the person calling the plays. Further, because of the continued issues, opposing defensive coordinators know exactly what sort of defensive scheme to run to be slow or absolutely stop the Texas offense all together. Florida and Kentucky are clear examples. So not only is the QB forced to play an offensive game plan that doesn't align well to their strengths and comforts, they face defensive plans that know exactly how to disrupt that based on the Texas QB, OL and RB skill sets. Not sure how you logic around not blaming that on the HC and head play caller.

It's so myopically bizarre to me that so many place so much faith in a guy who didn't start for Troy until the final 5 games of the season. Troy. But based on a tiny sample size he's the greatest thing since VY despite the reality that we have consistently had the most pressured QB in P4. It will also still be Sark calling the plays. Just wildly amusing. Again, we just all have to hope Sark goes with the conservative game plan our OL is actually capable of executing.
-
Caldwell didn't start until the final 5 games of the season. He was a backup at Troy, but obviously that means he's excellent. I wasn't joking about not having played for Sark long. Ewers regressed during his time at Texas and so has Arch. None of these help the fact that Caldwell isn’t also a top notch offensive lineman so he's stuck with the ones we have. Our only hope is Sark feels compelled to go with the simplified offensive scheme that he seems to hate because Caldwell is playing.

Racist! Wait.. wut? You know this is Murican football right?

I mean Jacob does have about 500 yards and is averaging close to 9 ypc so I'm inclined to agree. He would be a nice addition to the team.

Bro, if you wanna call me out, just do it directly. No need to hide it a pandering message to @Nicole44 It won't help you avoid your demise at her hands and unless you have a fleet of TEMU boats you're not getting in her pants.

Exactly the same sorts of posts were made about Mack Brown while our football program circled and ultimately went down the drain. Zero of these on field issues are new ones for Sark. Let me list then because its clear you and all then people repping your post are unaware. 1) The is the second 5* QB in a row who has clearly regressed during his time at Texas. 2) Consistent red zone issues during his entire tenure at Texas. 3) Consistent 3rd quarter production issues his entire tenure at Texas. 4) Consistent running game issues save when there was an RB who should have won a Heisman playing for him. He didnt win due to lack of Consistent usage of his talents. 5) Consistent pass protection issues throughout his entire tenure. 6) Consistent losses to teams of equal or greater talent. By Consistent I mean he is 1-7. That's true not just for his time at Texas but throughout his entire head coaching career. 7) Complete bungling of Offense line recruiting, development, portal funds and ultimately production. I think it more likely your 2020 fandom comment more applicable to you as it's extremely clear you weren't around for the end of the Mack Brown era and didn't suffer through that nor Strong and Herman. When there are consistent issues with a HC and his staff, during my life time of Longhorn Fandom, they have never been remedied save the blessing on one miracle worker name Vince Young and his near miss co-worker Colt McCoy. They overcame the coaching issues, and they shouldn't have been required to do such. Neither should all the players under Sark. Frankly, the players, fans and other contributors deserve better.

The underlined comes down to a few simple realities. First, I am confident it is Sark's ego that leads him to go right back to the offense that hasn't worked time and again. He actually believes, due to his ego, that somehow, some way it will, this time. Why? Because I think his ego has unfortunately allowed him to drink his own coolaide with help from media and others that he is an offensive genius. Second, all of the staff on offense are long-term friends of Sark's. Essentially, yes men that aren't questioning or arent in the position to question his choices. So nobody is checking Sark on them at all. (CDC should step in here) Third, because of the first two, not having contact drills in spring or summer, all combined with poor talent evaluation skills and a flat unwillingness to align the game plan to the strengths of the players and weaknesses of opposing defenses, Sark believes, actually truly believes that it will work, has to work. Part of that is the law of diminishing returns he has fallen victim to. His ego says he was right, he's been trying to show he was right all season long, if it now reverses course after all this time, effort and energy he will be forced to admit, to both himself and the world he was wrong. He can't be wrong because he's a offensive genius. He's coached these players, they will execute it next time. It's impossible that they won't, because he's a genius, came up with this scheme and knows they are capable.

Well, look freindo, I'm not big on dispatching advice but I will make a suggestion. Perhaps you might want to mull over a choice not to call your wife a huge bitch, particularly if she or others present when you do so might report it to the media. This is NOT advice, I'm just spitballing here.

The underlined is a factor of maturity and though you may or may not realize it, a much harsher condemnation of Sark than Arch. A QB who has had almost all of his development under 2 different HC and started 5 games for Troy. Let's investigate further shall we. Seems Gerald Parker was the OC for Troy before becoming HC last year and is widely considered one of the best college football offensive coordinators including his time at ND. Odd, isn’t it. Makes one pontificate what Arch might have been this year if he had been coached by Parker rather than Sark for the last 3 years. In an interesting and similar note, Ewers early development wasn't with Sark either and the data and most opinions indicate/are Ewers regressed during his time at Texas. You know the QB at Texas lots of fans didn't like who is now in the NFL.

That's only because it is currently reminding you of Texags. 😉

Oh I wasn't arguing with you at all. I knew we were agreeing. I was pointing out some of the stupidity in posts before and after yours.
-
Way to avoid the question which was which resume between Texas and aggie looks better. Let me try to make this easy for you. Who has had a better season to this point?
-
Well the poster above you just brushed off the ND win due to ref cheating. He blew off the results of the only mutual teams the teams have faced. It appears on field results, performance and scores have now become less important than a perceived delusions that our results have been better than aggies. We are also wish casting future results as facts. What's best is we have now gone full, they haven't and don't play one by pointing out our OSU loss and dismissing their ND win. I'm just waiting for the media bias in favor of aggie talk and accusations that Sanky being called Snakey is giving them a preferential cake walk schedule.
-
There is so much wish casting and delusion in this post I'm just gonna nod to you and say you bet. I will say I love that you've wish casted future game results in your fantasy post. It honestly made me laugh, so thanks.

Well, look at the broader picture. This week two former Longhorn OL came out on $9.95 podcast pointing out specifically the issues in recruiting, evaluating and development of out OL. Further, they both pointed out the harsh reality that the players aren't capable of executing the scheme that Sark is running. Want to know when Sark hasn't run this exact same scheme that all opposing DCs now know how to scheme for?? The OU game and the second half of the MSU game. In both we went to more simplified blocking game, quicker throws to shorter WR routes and moving the pocket more. Now compare that to the offensive production. So... we know when Sark runs this simplified offensive pretty much eliminating the 5 step drop and complex blocking scheme and using our mobile QB in alignment with the abilities of the players we succeed. Yet, I'll wager against Vandy with a backup QB we go right back to the complex scheme. Further, we are now all aware Sark missed Junior Day among the most important recruiting single days. He went to an NFL style no contact spring and summer practice plan which is well known to fail in college. Given this practice style our young QB and OL wasn't anything close to real world speeds and evaluation of their abilities to execute Sark's scheme was simply impossible. That is, was impossible until Ohio State.. Add to it that he canceled the spring game and refuses to alter his scheme and now allegedly he's been absent due to personal issues relating to his spouse having relations with one of his players resulting in pregnancy. This is the reality of our situation currently. Oh, did I mention that this lead to perhaps the most famous 5* QB recruit ever from a powerful and famous college and NFL football family be the most pressured QB in college ball and very possibly compromising his NFL future. That's a LOT of bad man.

You think that's crazy, just wait, the TAMU branded jet boat from TEMU with CFP Participant 2025 signage is already in production for the January reveal on the wall.

You go tell Georgia there are extenuating circumstances beyond our control. As such, the game is now in Austin. Bark it at them if required, so as to speak their language, if you will.
