  1. Okay, and if that's your passion great. I just watch a pace motorcycle and a couple of more laps. You bring up a very massive difference between track riding on a motorcycle (GP or dirt oval style) and this Vélodrome. That wall and the track mean the riders don't have to do 5 things. 1) Entry speed 2) Corner entrance 3) Apex 4) Exit point 5) Exit speed When on a GP style track you're planning your line for the next corner entry, your breaking point, your corner entry speed, gearing for the best line to hit the apex and exit at the maximum speed. You also have gear selection and lean, setting weight, figuring out how to be ready to power AT the Apex through the exit and what exit/apex allow for the earliest point for entry. If you're breaking at any point in the corner, you did it wrong, if you're looking at exit point at apex, you're WAY behind. At apex you should already be set for exit, and looking to set line for the next corner. I type all this shit out to make the point, in circle bike track, non of that happens. Zero. I'm not dismissing the athletes, your interest in it, nor your enjoyment. I'm saying as spectator, on TV like many other vehicle racing sports it's boring. I think MotoGP and F1/GP is okay on TV, but in person, different world. For me personally, relative to a track day on a motorcycle or distance ride on a bicycle I'd much prefer both over going in a circle. Maybe I would enjoy Vélodrome riding, but I'm absolutely certain I'd never choose it over a day at the track on a motorcycle. Notice I haven't mentioned NASCAR? Because I don't love it either. No right or wrong just opinions and bikes going in a circle is boring as shit to me, but hell, I like watching surfing so what the fuck do I know.
  2. So are most forms of auto and motorcycle racing and I'll take a weekend at a track on a motorcycle over riding on a Velodrome any day. At $50k I could also buy a LOT of track bike.
  3. I'd much rather watch indoor soccer. While we are ranting... $50k bikes going in a circle is out. Dancing and cheer events need to go to. Specifically water pom/cheer competition, twirling and break dancing are all out. I like really skate boarding but that's not the ant hill I am choosing to die on. 3x3 sucks, it's out too. I'm biased but surfing stays!
  4. There is absolutely filter going on in the track events and others. The colors popping like they do is an aspect of BOTH filter and great new camera technology. I'll take it to the nerds thread.
  5. On another note, not disrespecting the athletes nor fans in anyway, but bikes going in a circle is only mildly more interesting to me than 3x3.
  6. South shore aligns pretty well with the direction set by Teahupo'o. It's probably a Surf thread discussion but in my somewhat uniformed (never surfed either) Tresles doesn't seem particularly worse than Teahupo'o logistically. Speaking of logistics, HB is the MOST "fan friendly" by a good stretch. I could see them going HB in an effort to get larger fan participation for surfing in general. Attending an event can change opinions and support levels and the folks leading surfing likely recognize that reality. I'm just spit balling, but South Shore = current standard. Tresles - cooler for surfing nerds. HB - Broader fan base engagement and perhaps growth therein.
  7. So you're saying I'm just a thristy old man? But yeah, the broader appeal aspect, which ultimately "improves the gene pool" of the athletes something I had not considered. It is something that we both agree is great well beyond the "hotness" aspect. The social media/sponsorship side is no secret with millionaire influencers who, beyond looking amazing, often provide zero substance.
  8. Definitely felt like they were trying their hardest to give it away.
  9. I recognize that the US profited from the judges screwing over Barbosa (?)/ Romanian, as they did screw her/then over, imo. I am glad for Suni and the US but... I'm always going to lean in favor of fair game over judges/refs fucking someone/a team. I was on the receiving end of Okie State fuckery, and I was a stand in the fans. Still it torqued me and I can't imagine having it done to me in a once every 4 year event to which I had dedicated my life.
  10. Okay, I know the answer to the following question is likely both tacos... but.. Are female athletes in large part far more attractive generally, that in the past? I do recognize filters and social media has greatly modified their "presentation" but good god there are a ton of smoke shows... or.. Am I just a really thirsty creepy old man now and they look way better to me because of that reality?? I know, both tacos but damn.
  11. Well man, how about we get Disk Golf (m/w/mixed), Ultimate Frisbee(m/w/mixed), real actual tackle football, fake ass flag football (which is coming m/w), and fowling. That's 10 fucking gold medals in US invented sports right there. Add the half pipe that Tony Hawk is pushing for and we might have 12. Live the dream amigo! The Merican dream instead of a janky ass half sport of a real one. I believe in you, the USA and this dream.
  12. On behalf of the limited sober folks, it would be nice to have a non-alcohol drink/food/attendance only option. I won't vent here but NYE and Halloween parties that never offer a non-alcohol alternative is a bit dated and frustrating.
  13. It's okay if you follow specific musicians to know about upcoming shows/releases and broader city wide types of events or openings. Other than that, it's pretty worthless. Then again I never participated in Twitter so..
  14. Look man, we discussed this previously. I don't want to poop on your parade of dreams again, but unless weed and prostitution are both legalized and hallucinogens decriminalized in the next year.... not gonna happen. It's best for you, US sports, US basketball and the aspiring 3x3 US players if we just move to cancel culture the entire game out of the Olympics. Sorry, but facts are facts.
  15. We talked about that on the Surfing thread. I started out North Shore and by the end talked myself back to HB or Tresles. I'll say this, as soon as I can I'm booking that Hyatt property in HB. Great property and it's a short bike ride to the pier/has a pedestrian bridge to the beach. Stayed there often in my profession past.
  16. She's crazy young too. Only 20, but her interview post gold was amazingly mature, like beyond most people even twice her age. It was really great.
  17. I completely missed this story, which doesn't surprise me. That said, China getting its panties in a twist over a minor gaf by what a WWE wrestler and entertaining actor said is hilarious.
  18. I struggle with not very good football. Am I spoiled by Premier and Serie A... yes. Do I get frustrated with poor offense.. Yes Someone please act like you have an attack plan. Fake it until you make it or something.
  19. It's crazy when you think the number of deaths that can be directetly tied to an amazingly small number of dictators. Stalin, Hilter, Chiang Kai-shek, Mao.. 128,168,000 VICTIMS: THE DEKA-MEGAMURDERERS 4. 61,911,000 Murdered: The Soviet Gulag State 5. 35,236,000 Murdered: The Communist Chinese Ant Hill 6. 20,946,000 Murdered: The Nazi Genocide State 7. 10,214,000 Murdered: The Depraved Nationalist Regime DEATH BY GOVERNMENT By R.J. Rummel 1994 That doesn't even cover Tojo/Hirohito, Pol Pot, King Leopold II and Jim Jones isn't even an also ran... It's staggering.
  20. I'd honestly be far more inclined to watch that than indoor bikies going in a circle and shot put.
  21. Fair, but with a stipulation that medalist have to karaoke their national anthem.
