  1. It's across from the Expo Center and is serviced by Cap Metro, so not exactly in the sticks. And the original site was within the city limits, but the neighborhood opposed it. Thus, they moved to where there were no neighbors.
  2. Formula 1 doesn't have any accompanying hometown allegiances or pride. To the extent Austin takes ownership of the team, it will be a successful franchise.
  3. Well, of course. You're reserving a place in line, and most people probably put down deposits along with other people they intend to sit with. Then, you'll end up choosing seats from the account that has the best spot in the line among that group. That said, I have no doubt that overall season ticket purchases will still be very high. Season 1 should be a sellout for most games. It's the novelty of having a pro franchise, and it's the only pro game in town. How the franchise does in year 2, 3 and 4 will be the real test of the market, and I think that will largely come down to the game day experience and atmosphere.
  4. I did the same and came up with the same range. Cheap seats around $500 up to around $2K for premium seats with club access + parking. That's for 20 matches - 17 regular season plus a few extra matches. Austin FC president did say their cheapest season tickets would be close to the $20 level that they guaranteed Austin City Council as part of the stadium deal (as in a certain percentage of tickets have to be priced at $20).
  5. I'm guessing season tickets deposits as well. They said spring '19 for that a couple of months ago, and we're running out of spring '19 days.
  6. I agree it sucks for OSU, but man I love the high stakes nature of match play.
  7. Chervony is up 2 thru 8.
  8. With MCM, your most strenuous weeks won't be until late September / early October depending on how you prefer to train. At that point, the early morning temps tend to get below 70 so you have that going for you. In the summer, I'm outdoors two to three times a week and then on a treadmill for easy days. Do some climate-controlled runs if you can especially if it's not a quality workout day. Pop some salt tabs during your outdoor long runs, and start super early. Just don't wear yourself out and get mentally exhausted come August. You'll start to despise your training and resent signing up for an early fall marathon, and it may affect your mentality leading up to the race. Also, don't focus too much on hitting the marathon goal pace. Just focus on the quality of the workouts.
  9. IMO you don't need a $2,500 bike if your goal is to just to finish a half Ironman. You can get a serviceable one that will perform well for half that or less. If you decide to do it, spend a lot of the time in open water training. There are a lot of elements to open water swimming that can't be replicated in a pool (mainly the mental side of things).
  10. Really happy for Bruce and the team. I've gotten to know Bruce really well since he moved to Austin as he's our neighbor. I'm admittedly biased, but I think he deserves the job. I'm encouraged that others feel the same. I know he's been heavily involved in the recruiting side of things for the past few years, so I assume the relationships he needs in that department are pretty well developed. Regarding the match, I was really impressed by the way the guys came out at singles and got up a set in 4 matches to set the tone. Clearly they tuned out all of the hype about how Wake doesn't drop singles points especially at lines 1 - 3. I was most impressed by Yuya and Scott bouncing back. Those matches completely turned in the second set. Obviously, we didn't need Scott's point, but he was on cruise control.
  11. What a way to retire from marathons. Congrats on your storied tenure as a marathoner. I've really enjoyed following you through the years, and I've learned a lot about my own regimens and how to get faster because of you. I hope you'll continue to give advice / feedback and keep us updated on your future endeavors.
  12. Ito with Point 3. 3-1 Texas now with Sigsgaard dropping to Rybakov.
  13. Top 5 teams from each of the 6 regional sites.
  14. Excellent job, man!! I heard some recaps, and weather seemed to be more problematic than you described ... at least for the runners in my group. I heard it rained all morning and after it tapered off, it left the air too warm and heavy. Getting under 3:00 in the conditions is very impressive. You should revel in that.
  15. I'm sad to hear that. But I understand - there's nothing more miserable than slogging through long runs when you can't find enjoyment in it. Look forward to following you in other endeavors - trail runs, tris, whatever. Good luck today!
  16. I'm doing the 5K. I ran it 3 years ago, but they've modified the course since then. It still goes around campus. The 10K follows the same course but goes up and back down through Hyde Park. I remember it being pretty flat. The only thing that was kind of a mess was the start. It seemed fairly informal, like a campus fun run but with Nike as the sponsor. It's certainly not made to accommodate a large crowd, because there's not a lot of room for runners to line up. And I fully expect it to be the largest crowd ever given the cancellation of the Cap 10K. The one thing that does help is that the 10K runners go first, and the 5K runners are off 15 minutes later. That will help with crowd control. The biggest upside is the Nike tech shirt that you get. To date, it's the best fitting tech shirt I've gotten in a race.
  17. Why not both in a mixed-use project? Ground floor commercial space and housing above. And the city wouldn't be committing money to the housing portion except a little through GO bonds. It would probably be financed through whatever Foundation Communities decides.
  18. I'm keeping a baseline of 28 / week (run 4x a week) until training starts again in May. That's basically two workout days (short workout and long workout) and two easy days.
  19. Haven't checked in on this thread in awhile, but this is where I'm at. Listened to Stern on terrestrial radio in San Francisco starting in 2004 and then jumped to Sirius when he made the move. His content when he first got on Sirius was so good. He was finally liberated and able to do the show on his terms. Over the past couple of years, I just felt like they were on vacation non-stop, and I didn't really like the guests he was bringing in. I called to cancel in January because I was paying too much, and they offered me a yearly subscription which was about a third of what I was paying. The cheap plan didn't include Stern which I didn't realize at the time. Anyway, I don't really miss it that much except for Richard and Sal stuff and the wack pack content (which has also fallen off as someone else mentioned). TL;DR - still have Sirius but not Stern. Won't go back to terrestrial radio. Would listen to a just Richard Christie show.
  20. Nice work!! Congrats on the PR and for crossing Tokyo off the list!! As an aside, you and I have eerily similar marathon race profiles.
  21. They're playing two (Tues/Wed).
  22. About time. They kept teasing this in the fall. I was anticipating a 2018 release, but all is forgiven now that tracks are incrementally being released.
  23. Well done! I know you were kind of squeezing this one in. Hope you can crack that 1:20 in Katy!
  24. The Houston Marathon was very kind to me. I ran a 3:22:44 (goal was 3:25) and bested my PR by 15+ minutes. The conditions were very favorable for low times - the wind dropped significantly from Saturday to Sunday, and temps stayed in the low 40s. That was my first Houston marathon, and that city knows how to put on a race. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.
