Yeah, but the reality was they had cones set up well before the curve, and area where you were required to get off the gas, break hard, then make that right turn. I bet we only had mire like 850 feet of actual straight there. I also noticed on the film I was getting off the gas early before the yellow cone, and breaking early. I would remedy that next time I go. Got a bit better about that in the 911 because I knew how those breaks abs car would perform in those situations. And then just factor in the fact that I’m not that experienced on track days. I’ve done a few, but I’m far from a great driver. It appears i was a lot better than most of them at this event, but I’m not great. The financial penalties for messing up one of their cars or failing to follow the very strict instructions such as accelerating near the yellow “get off the gas” cones keeps you from pushing it too.

If you look at the map only the northern part of the track was open. The part north of the buildings with only a 1,200 foot straight. The back, or area south of the building with the very long straights wasn’t open.
-
Longest straight on the course was 1250 ft. That’s not a ton of runway especially when a good bit of that they had designated as coast and brake area. Those areas were set up waaaaaaay before the turns. also watched my 4th drive (2nd time) in the gt3 and saw I topped 105 in both the short outbound straight and the longer homeward bound straight. The 105 on the outbound straight stuns me because it wasn’t that straight really and it’s not very long at all. Hell, the long straight isn’t that long. God it was fun.

Seems to me two options here. Get a panamera turbo with ceramics, awd, and all season tires or move south.
-
I think the very last thing I need in my life is to be behind the wheel of a super car with anarchy involved. May do that when I’m 75-80 and just ready to be done.
-
When i finished my last lap in the gt3 today the instructor noted he could smell the ceramics burning, the true sign of a lap well done.
-
Not sure, but I was just looking on line and none of the pictures of the tracks looks like the set up we had. My bet is the home stretch straight was 1/8 mile at best. I would exit the last turn at around 55, hit the gas and have to shut it down pretty quickly heading into turn one. Again, I’m not claiming to be any good at driving. My guess is a great driver could move the needles well above my 104. I think i could have gotten there as well with more laps.

Dear god. How? Ive got the ceramics on my 2005 911S and even after several track days of crushing those they show damn near no wear. I think i paid 9,995 as an option back then and thought it was insane. Of course, I’ve never ever replaced the pads on the thing 15 years later. How the fack are you ruining though a set a year and at 8,000 a pop? W. T. F.

Uh, yeah. Next time they come to Houston I’d totally be interested if you can get some discounts. That would be awesome and thanks for the offer!
-
Pretty damn short. They do that on purpose to keep a bunch of office jockey dipshit drivers like myself from from killing themselves and putting their 400k Ferrari into the wall. They also have coast and brake zones set up waaaaaaay before you’d ever consider braking if you were in your own car or running a race.

I received an invite to attend the Xtreme Xperience event at the GSR track south of Houston this morning. The cars available for our group to drive were: Lambo Huracan, Ferrari 488 GTB, Porsche 911 GT3, Dodge Hellcat, Nissan GTR. They also had Cadillac CTSV and McClaren 720, but those were not offered in our group. Our group got to choose 3 of the cars do drive 4 laps each. One guy didn't really like driving on the track so he bailed on his last car chosen, which was the 911GT3, and he was kind enough to let me have his ticket for that allowing me to drive that one twice. I chose the Lambo, Ferrari, and GT3 (got a bonus drive in this one) The track was set up with lots of twists, and two decent straights. one was decent length, the other pretty short. Frist car I drove was a black Lambo Huracan. This car is all show, no go. It is not a track car in my hands, anyway. It looks badass, but it just fell flat compared to the others I drove. That was so disappointing because I wanted to love it. it felt almost like an SUV compared to the others. It also felt the least planted of the bunch. This is a car you drive to a steakhouse and nightclub because you have money and the car looks badass. Other than that it did nothing for me. I was truly stunned by that. coming out of the last turn and hitting the straight I could never get it quite right and by the time it felt stable enough to get it to full throttle the moment was over. I topped out at 98 mph on this one. Second up was a yellow Ferrari 488 GTB. I have had the pleasure of driving a number of Ferraris. They're incredible. I think the 488 GTB is one of the best looking Ferraris ever. I think I could get a lot more out of this car with more laps. I felt like I drove it decently for a shitty track level driver. I got more comfortable with the track in this car, but it also felt familiar to me. I was able to top this one out at 104 on the home stretch which was the fastest I got any of the cars. One note was it did seem to have a decent bit of lag on the turbo. The one lap I was able to really apex out of the last turn into the home stretch I got the turbo wound up early and WOW. That was insane. This one was fun, and a great mix of a more than kick ass track car that you would drive to Mastros later and look cool. Last was 911 GT3 with PDK and as stated I got 8 laps in this thing. Before I give my thoughts, I know, I know, I know everyone will think I am the homer on this. Probably. BUT out of our group of 12 people this was universally the car everyone was most stunned by, and universally voted the most fun, and best on the track. If you had money to burn and wanted a track car it would be very difficult to beat this one. Granted, this is also the only one that is built to be dedicated to track use out of the lot, so it does stand to reason it should be the "best" on the track. So....yeah, it wasn't even close for me. This one made me smile the most, and was just by miles the best to drive on the track. It was so damn easy. Granted, part of that is I have had 911's for 15 years and know exactly how these cars will handle, brake etc. Everything about it was easy for me. I do not consider myself a good track driver far far from it, and none of the other yahoos in our group were worth a shit either. That said, I passed both lambo and Ferrari in this car. The short straight on the outbound side of the track I was able to hit 100 mph which was 15 mph more than I was able to attain in the Ferrari. that stunned me. I was able to get it to 102 on the home stretch as well and overall it was just so damn good and fun to drive. It was also the one car that would let you break the ass end out just enough to add a shit ton of excitement to the equation without being scary in any way whatsoever. Oddly, it also had the best exhaust note and gear box. All cars were dual clutch/PDK/Paddle shift/ driven in auto mode. Nobody there was good enough to paddle shift and none of the instructors do it when they're competing either. At least none of the ones I drove with. FWIW- the GT3 was also the resounding favorite car of the instructors if you were doing track days. If not driving on a track they have various favorites for various different reasons just like everyone else. just a subjective thing. Other reviews of cars I did not drive - the Nissan GTR was considered a POS by pretty much everyone who drove it. Didn't corner well. I can attest to this in that I passed someone driving this one too when I was in the lambo. The Hellcat - ha. everyone was terrified of this one because it does not like to turn. at all. It goes like hell, and the brakes will rip your face off, but it is a dragster and doesn't belong on a track. The event is continuing tomorrow so if anyone has any time and money they want to spend it's a really kick ass time. I would strongly recommend it to anyone who loves to do track driving and a chance at throwing around some exotics. I would do it again and spend my own money to do it.

New Houston Restaurant Recommendations

heading to reef on Saturday. hopefully he makes a ton of money off me and can forward it to the El Real employees and get those people paid. Hater to hear El Real has closed, and hate even more the people out of work. THe breakfast enchiladas at El Real were a thing of beauty for a hangover cure. -
I agree with this. if I have to visit one of those parks id much rather do it in socal where you also have knotts berry farm nearby for real rides, and can escapes back into Beverly hills or down to la jolla for a few days when you get sick of the Disney experience. we go every year right before Christmas. probably will start planning it out again in a few weeks.

where did you get that wrap done, and if you do not mind how much? I am thinking about getting my old 911 wrapped in a different color just for a change of pace. yours looks fantastic.

I still want a texas re-do an focus on one city. I'd like it to be Houston with such an international cuisine theme and I think gulf coast cuisine in general is an interesting melting pot, but would be find with just dallas, Austin or san Antonio. Their texas season was frankly terrible with every shitty texas cliché known to man and no real focus.

Pink is fantastic live. that will be a great show. not a huge ID fan, but I could suffer through.

I LOVE the bionic frog. so hard to get.

it was pretty easily the wine of the night and pretty much blew everything else out of the water which is saying a ton because all those wines were absolutely at the top of their game. The DaNa stood pretty tall as well and my general experience with that wine has been it's more of a poser in the napa cult scene. Not this one. it was amazing too. Perhaps the biggest surprise was the Pahlmayer Chard. That thing had some serious body to it.

A buddy and I put together a wine tasting/food pairing event this weekend. If you’re ever looking to do something like this the guys over at Tony’s are freaking top notch at this kind of thing. We rented the wine room and had an amazing time. I wouldn’t change a single pairing or dish from this event. Dinner? Why Not!! be forewarned if you put it to the floor you may experience it shut down power to a number of the cylinders and lurch like a bucking bull until you shut it off for a while. Great color, and great looking car. That V8 is addictive for sure.

seems this thing is getting roasted pretty hard by "the critics". I say. "f*ck'em". they pen these long diatribes trying to prove their deeper meaning of the show, and shit all over this movie. Can't we just enjoy the thing without needing too much further analysis? Vince is great to his fans. Many wanted to know what happened to Jesse, and how his story arch ends, myself included. SUre I could surmise he got away, and I could conjure up a scenario in my mind where somehow during his captivity he knew where all the money was stashed and got away with enough to start over. Also in my mind, I am not sure I knew enough about what happened to jesse while in captivity to make the leap to where I could picture him making the easy call to gather up cash and actually make a wise to decision to haul ass. He'd already demonstrated once he couldn't do it. thankfully he learned from his mistake. I like having the closure for him. I loved that the thing was not easy for him, but he found a way as is always the case in BB. In short for me, I loved it and maybe it didn't add any real "new dimension" for the show, I actually think it did add another layer to Jesse, quite a few in fact, it gave us the ending to his story arch we all wanted while also confirming whithout question the death of walter white.

was nice to hear Lydia wasn't going to survive

and a car payment in perpetuity.

interesting that the original skinny pete scene from the trailer explaining he doesn't know where pinkman is was not in the movie.

yet another perfect ending. Didn't try to throw us any curve balls, or outsmart us. Just gave us what we wanted, and wrapped it all up. Now, we just need to finish Saul's story. I would like to see a check in on Walt's family after they get their money from Walt via Elliot. Maybe we get that in BCS. Loved the flash back scenes that added further color to the original story. Meth Damon should have maybe mixed in a few salets the last 6 years. Guy is testing the elasticity of the skin on his face. Amazing even after the story has ended twice now, I still want more from these characters and the world of BB.
