  1. Fair enough. I probably misread/misunderstood the original post. We do have a long history of armed conflict and we do romanticize it to strong degree, which is how I understood the original post.
  2. Um... I hate to admit it, but we ain't much different, are we?
  3. Thanks for starting this. I now have a place to virtual hand-wring. I'm more than a little concerned with Flaherty's shoulder. Hope it turns out to be nothing.
  4. The stock is tiny. If using the optic, the shooter's eye is going to get an ocular shocker.
  5. 1. Port-o-Potty in Baghdad. Summer was BRUTAL. 2. Wooden outhouse shitter in Pohang, Korea at Marine Expeditionary Camp - Pohang (MECP). Wooden outhouse with 55 gallon drum underneath to catch the goodies. Some wannabe engineer Marine decided that a toilet seat screwed to the hole was a good idea (and it probably was). Unfortunately, some logistician (possibly a Russian given the news of today) didn't think to contract a shit sucker until after we got there. After just a few days, the shit was piled up above the toilet seat. Once it got to that point, I was not utilizing the facilities. I found it curious how someone did it at that point, though. It was obviously a hovering aerial bombardment, but holy cow that would be brutal. 3. Guantamano Bay in the early 90's. The Air Force brought in portable shitters and showers and they were not climate controlled. They rolled the window flaps up on the tents and the toilets were elevated. It wasn't that it was a bad place to shit, but you kind of felt like you were on stage taking care of business as people were walking by outside and could see you through the window flaps. Korea was in the late 80's. My understanding is that MECP has been built up quite a bit since then. I'm fairly certain that they have indoor plumbing now, but back then it wasn't too posh. I have taken a shit in which most people would consider undesirable places, but the relief far outweighed the bad atmosphere.
  6. If this passes, Arizona will probably start springing forward and falling back just to continue with their contrarian bullshit.
  7. I hope you posted that on Nextdoor to warn your neighbors.
  8. I saw that yesterday and my heart skipped a beat when I heard the first explosion in the distance.
  9. First MRE in the field I was sure to eat the peanut butter. I think it was made with parepectolin, or instant cork.
  10. Agreed 100%. I'm sure that there are continuity plans in place, but ideally he would leave when that time comes. Unfortunately, I don't think that he will.
  11. I don't think Zenelsky will willingly leave Ukraine.
  12. Yeah, pimps is an ugly word. Love brokers is much better.
  13. Yeah, I have it. It started around 12 years ago. At first it sucked and seemed really loud. Now, it's just part of my life. The sound doesn't bother me as much now as when it first started. Mine is largely due to just being in and around the military and the loud noises associated with that lifestyle. 10 years active duty in the Marines and another 5 years or so in Iraq/Afghanistan are the obvious culprits. When I got out of the military and had my final physical, they noted that my hearing was somewhat degraded from when I first went in. Now, I have a very hard time hearing what people are saying, especially when there is other noise around. The best part of all this is I can pretty much ignore anything that anyone (wife, kids) says from any other room in the house. I can usually hear that they are talking, but I got tired of yelling "What!?", so I just ignore them now. Gotta take the little wins when they present themself.
  14. Pretty good in Dodgeball, too.
  15. I really need to open a used car lot.
  16. We got some good donations from small local banks.
  17. I was in the same boat. I'm the president of our local wrestling club and ran into similar issues. When our group took it over, we had $400 in the bank and zero uniforms. Our financial requirements are probably much smaller, but the issues are similar. One thing that we did was figure out exactly how much we needed and then went to local businesses soliciting donations in exchange for banners at our tournament. We were able to get half of what we needed through those. The next thing that we did was host a tournament that more than covered the remainder. Next year we are going to be looking for companies to sponsor our tournament. One area that we have our eyes on martial arts schools and gyms. We'll look for a certain donation amount in exchange for giving them a table to do on site sign ups. We do have other fund raising requirements, but we did get enough to get us through this season. We're planning on doing some stuff over the off season, like hosting trivia nights and other stuff like that. Hope it all works out for you.
  18. I think it's more than just access to firepower. Other countries have access to the same firepower, yet we have far more things like this happening. I hate to say it, but we are just broken and I don't know that there's a way to fix it. There are people in our society that have no regard for human life. It's sad, it sucks, and I do hope that there is something that can be done. I don't want the solution to be more security in our schools, having more people armed, or any other ideas like that. I'm a supporter of the 2nd amendment, but there has got to be something better than more people armed. I have weapons, but they do not leave my house except to shoot at a range. My weapons are for peace of mind within my home. If someone were on my property and stealing something outside, they can have it. I'm not going to kill another human being over a "thing". Maybe I'm in the minority of other gun owners, but for anyone to be on the wrong side of my weapon, they will need to be in my house and a threat to my family. When I was a kid, my dad taught me how to shoot when I was around 11 or 12 years old. The very first thing that he told me was to never point a gun at any other person or animal unless I intended to kill. He taught me that every gun was loaded, whether you think it is or not. My dad and I both served in the Marine Corps, so we had a bit more training than the normal person on the street. I guess the bottom line is that in my mind, we're simply screwed up as a society.
  19. Apparently it's what military spouses do when their significant other is deployed. Long over that part of my life.
  20. ` Well, if you spent any time in the greater Jacksonville area in 1994, you probably fucked my ex-wife. My condolences.
