  1. Yeah, I didn't think that Shildt would be fired, but I do believe that he made a ton of bad decisions this entire season. Another issue was the amount of time that he gave Dejong before finally going with Sosa. I get it, Dejong is the guy with rime and a bigger contract, but he has been horrible this entire year. Also, the walks were pretty much the entire staff, not just the bullpen. But you are right, the issues weren't just Shildt, guys were simply not performing. He did make a lot of bad decisions, though. He stuck with Reyes as the closer for far too long.
  2. Great question. I still think that his handling of the bullpen prior to "the streak" was horrid, but he has done a great job since.
  3. I hope I didn't jinx this game. Posted that a bit early.
  4. Yeah, this is simply unreal. Longest winning streak since 1935, tied for longest in franchise history.
  5. I finished it up last night. It definitely kept me interested. Extremely violent.
  6. 1982 was such a fun season. We went to at least 20 games that year. My dad would come home from work and pick me up then head to Busch. Never had tickets, so he would just walk up to the ticket window and ask for the best 2 seats together on the 3rd base side. I was in awe watching young Willie McGee do his thing in the outfield, at the plate and running the bases. He was so fun to watch.
  7. I was 13. I watched game 7 at home while my parents went to the game.
  8. Just had a flashback to the 1982 Series when Tommy Herr knocked in 2 on a sac fly to center.
  9. Oh, it seems to be fairly common for players to leave the Cardinal organization and start hitting. Also common for players to come to the organization and forget how to hit.
  10. If they do hold onto the second wildcard spot, I fully expect Mo to use that as his reasoning for not making one big move in the off season. "We're already a really good team. We just need for our current players to stay healthy."
  11. Thanks, I hope to go back again some day. This trip was actually due entirely to my mom. She passed away in October of last year and she loved that area of the country. She wanted her kids, grand kids and everyone's spouses to go there, so she set aside enough for us all to make this trip and paid for it. We had a lot of stuff planned around remembering her while just enjoying the beauty that is Jackson Hole. I'll make that pilgrimage again, but my kids are starting to grow up and the oldest are heading out on their own. A trip with just me and wife will be fantastic too.
  12. You live in (or near) Bugtussle, Akansas?
  13. To add that story a little. My son's coach left for a bigger school after my son's Junior year. New coach came in and ran a much more conventional game plan. Under the previous coach, they'd usually win at least 1 playoff game before getting bounced. First year under the new coach they got bounced in the first round and had a running clock for pretty much the entire second half. Not sure if it's the same in Texas, but here a running clock starts with a 35 point differential. Pretty much the same starters on the offense and defense my son's junior and senior seasons. Now, in the new coach's second season, they made it to the semi finals. They are now in year three and are playing great so far without a single college prospect on the roster. It's amazing how much coaching impacts high school sports. Some coaches just have the ability to motivate players way beyond what the player thinks they can do.
  14. He was pretty good. Did his job. But yeah, the talent levels of schools that they played were typically better than ours. Smaller school within their classification.
  15. One of my boys played for a coach that adopted this style from Kevin Kelley. I could count the punts for an entire season on one hand with fingers to spare. Sometimes it was fun to watch, sometimes it was painful. They didn't have near the success that Kelley did (obviously), but they won more than they probably should have given the talent level.
  16. I am more bothered by the cables hanging down under the TV.
  17. Kid called him a Kansas City Faggot. Coach then got pissed because he never played in Kansas City.
  18. Fuck it. Who really cares anymore? I hope that the attendance for the remaining home games looks like it did in Pittsburgh this weekend.
  19. You and me both. Just checked and 8 runs so far in the bottom of the seventh and still no outs. Shildt is clueless.
  20. And another blown save for Reyes. Even before he started blowing all the saves his WHIP was horrible. Fuck, this team sucks.
