  1. I think Carpenter would probably do well in Colorado with his swing. Unfortunately, he swings and misses far too often. I think I did read somewhere (or heard on the radio) that he wants to get back to line drives and hitting to all fields. Hell, maybe that's just me projecting my wishes and I never heard it. Maybe Arenado feeling 'disrespected' will help in getting something done. I'd love to seem as a Cardinal this year. Ozuna, Arenado, Goldschmidt would be one hell of a middle of the lineup.
  2. Our local middle school girls basketball coach is pretty good. Would be a huge step up.
  3. I live in a 'neighborhood' with an HOA, but the only thing that our dues are for are road maintenance (plowing in the winter). Other than that, they don't give a shit what we do.
  4. Yeah, I think he's going to have to take 1 year deal regardless of whether he's back with the Cards or any other team. He doesn't appear to be a clubhouse problem. He has been inconsistent with the Cardinals, but the homerun threat was a nice thing to have. I really want to see what Carlson has, but I'd hate to go into the season relying on a rookie. This team just has too much dead weight with Carpenter, Cecil and Fowler. They have been the poster children for giving bad contracts to mediocre players for the last few years.
  5. It's been a while since I've lived in a neighborhood with a real HOA. Are playscapes typically against HOA restrictions? That seems kind of stupid.
  6. Yeah. The rescue that we have worked with got 3 out of a total of 30+ pyrs at that farm. The story is that they started with one boy and one girl and they just kept on having litters. Never got them fixed. All they did was feed them. The three that our rescue took included the mom of most of them on the farm. Poor thing is likely never to be adopted. She just doesn't trust people at all. We met her when they first got her and were going to adopt her. The guy from the rescue actually advised against it and wanted us to meet Ladybird. The mom of all those puppies just kept having litter after litter with no recovery time. Her nipples are black and hanging about 5" below her belly. I'm fairly certain that she will be a permanent resident of the rescue.
  7. Yesterday morning our youngest boy had one of the puppies in his lap. The pup started to whine a bit and Ladybird came over and was trying to get it from him. She couldn't get her head into the right position though, so my wife just took the pup back to the whelping box. It's really fascinating to see the instincts take over during this whole process. Ladybird is eating so much now. You can see her belly and how skinny she is after the birth. When we first met her she was skinny, but now even more so. She gets some fresh eggs every morning and is really eating a lot of her dog food. She was rescued from a farm on the Iowa/Missouri border a little over a month ago. I'm amazed at how trusting she is of people. She did not have any interaction with people until the rescue got her. I think having Sadie here helped to get her acclimated to living with our family.
  8. Other teams are just not interested. The loss of a draft pick is just too much for other teams. I'd like him back, but I won't be too upset if he goes somewhere else. My biggest fear would be him going to another NL Central team and then tearing the Cardinals up.
  9. If he comes back to the Cardinals, I think it will be less than the original qualifying offer.
  10. Ladybird has had the puppies. There were 5, but the first one did not make it. She was born without a sac and had a cleft lip and palate. We tried, but she just could not get that first breath. The other 4 came out just fine. Mom is doing great. Our other pyr, Sadie, isn't quite sure what to make of them yet. The pups were born on Friday and mom did not want Sadie near them. This morning, mom was walking around the house and Sadie went into the whelping box to get a look/sniff. When mom came back, there were no growls or showing of teeth, so I think she is over that.
  11. Smells like a bag full of assholes in here. (I still use this one on my boys from time to time) Harder than woodpecker lips.
  12. I'm looking forward to having Mike Leach in our time zone.
  13. Stop talking to my wife! No worries, I didn't respond.
  14. I just received 14 texts in 13 minutes.
  15. Yeah, quoting myself for the update. We got Lady last Monday. So far, so good. She has never lived in a house, but she has not had an accident in the house yet. She and Sadie are getting along great. Lady is still a bit nervous and maybe a little unsure of things, but overall she's adapting great. There are 2 issues that are making me a bit nervous. 1. She wants to go after the cat. The first time she did it the cat just ran upstairs. Lady will not go upstairs or down to the basement. The second time, the cat stopped as soon as she got on the stairs, turned around, and got Lady right on the nose. There was a cat claw stuck and we had to pull it out. She hasn't gone after her full blast again, but I'm constantly aware and watching out. 2. When the dogs get treats, if Sadie gets a little too close, Lady bares her teeth. Nothing has happened yet, but again, I'm a little concerned. It's not a problem with regular dog food, just treats. I can manage that though. Sadie and Lady are playing some, which is so cool to watch. Lady is getting pretty close to delivering those pups. I'd be surprised if they weren't here this week.
  16. I'd rather be pistol whipped from Joplin to Denison than be left in Oklahoma.
  17. Our trash day is Wednesday, so Thursday this week with the holiday. I got up this morning and started taking all the trash out. We had quite a bit with all the empty boxes. While I'm taking them out, Mrs. asks "Do you think they'll take it all?". Me: Not sure Mrs: What if they don't? Me: Then I'll be bringing some back in. Mrs: Or we could leave what's out there now and wait until next week for the rest. Me: I'll just take it all out now. Mrs: But what if they don't take it all? Me: What if they do? Around 9:00 this morning I get a text telling me that the took it all.
  18. Sometime around 2009-10 I was in Baghdad. One night it sounded like were being overrun because of the small arms fire. There were rounds coming down from the sky. I went to the closest bunker and there were a few soldiers in there. Turns out the Iraqis had announced the election results and the locals decided to celebrate.
  19. I knew the immigration guy. He was a Marine that worked in Public Affairs and was in a few movies as an extra, including JFK. CSB
  20. Yeah, I have never had the pleasure of having a dog that had puppies. It should be interesting. Delivery is all set. They are bringing her on Monday.
  21. We've had Sadie (Great Pyrenees and some sort of shepherd mix) for about 2 and a half months. She's a fantastic dog, as I've mentioned on here before. We've been looking for another from the same rescue to pair with her. The first one that we met was on a farm where the previous owner just let her keep having more and more litters. There were over 30 pyrs on that property and she had most of them according to the rescue. The other day the guy from the rescue said that she has regressed and probably wouldn't be a good fit with us (we have 5 boys at home, so it's a bit active). He brought another (her name is Lady) over on Tuesday and she's the one. She was at the same farm, but is about a year old. When he brought her to the house to meet us, she was a bit shy, but really opened up with my youngest 2 boys. There were many tail wags and a few kisses given by her. She also got along with Sadie, even when we brought her into the house. Wife got a call from the guy at the rescue today... "Well, Lady is pregnant." The plan was for her to get spayed on New Year's Eve, but that's going to have to wait. We were going to get her in January after healing up. Now we'll be getting her next week and we will foster the pups after they get here.
  22. Because even homeless people don't want to live in Toledo.
