  1. Maybe an old washing machine and an ice tub?
  2. Holy shit, @drifter379! I'm glad that you're okay. I'm really sorry about the house. Hopefully it gets rebuilt soon. Stay safe.
  3. Well, I don't think he puts them into WS level. I don't like the idea of trading away all of your best prospects for Soto. They would have him for the remainder of this season and then 2 more. I don't see them paying him what he can get in free agency, so it just doesn't seem smart to me. Therefore, Mo will make the deal.
  4. The boy called last night. He sounded good. He's still in reception, but should be moving to actual basic training today. He said they have one more shot to get and then they are done in reception. It blows my mind that they get to make calls from time to time. When I went through USMC boot camp, I got the one call when we first got there and then I earned one more while I was there. It sounds like they can earn their phones for a little bit on Sundays. @Texzilla58 I have another boy that joined the AF right after high school. He's been in for 10 years now and the AF has paid for his undergrad and he just finished up his masters. He still hasn't touched his GI Bill either. He's really made it work for him.
  5. Yeah, which leaves plenty of time to reflect on life...
  6. He will drill about 30 miles from campus, so not bad at all. It's a transportation unit, so he decided he wanted to drive trucks. Can't say that I blame him because it's the closest to campus. Very short school, so he was able to have a little bit of a summer before basic and he'll be done with AIT prior to the spring semester. The education benefits in the NG are very good, and he'll be able to start taking advantage immediately. The state will reimburse tuition up to the rate of a state university, plus he gets the GI Bill from the feds. That should be enough to cover the part that the scholarship doesn't. When he was taking visits, he found out that the coach from the school he chose is in the Guard. They had a nice talk about that. ETA: I know his head is spinning right now and he's questioning every decision he has made, but that will go away soon. The first week just sucks.
  7. Streams on Hulu. That's how I watch it.
  8. Well, one of my boys shipped off to Army Basic Training yesterday. We live in Missouri (about 60 miles or so west of STL), but he joined the Iowa Army National Guard. Sounds odd, I know, but he got a half ride to a college in Iowa to wrestle, so he joined the Iowa Guard. I drove him up to Iowa City (about 4.5 hours away from us) on Tuesday evening. We stayed in a hotel Tuesday night, then I took him to the Iowa National Guard Readiness Center Wednesday morning. He did a little final paperwork and then we said our goodbyes and I headed back home. They took him to Cedar Falls to catch a flight to O'Hare, then got on another flight there to... STL. He waited at the airport there for several hours before getting on a bus to Fort Leonard Wood. At approximately 9:15 PM last night, the wife and I drove to the commuter parking lot at the exit to our town and watched his bus go by. He called last night at 1:00 AM and read "I have arrived safely at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. I am safe and will call when I can." click I was a Marine, so I have a general idea about what he's going through and what's going on in his head. I worry, but I know that he will be better for this. We said goodbye to the boy and he won't be the same person the next time we see him.
  9. All of you talking shit about the "pool party" are really pissing me off! We're having a pool party for my kid's 8u baseball team.
  10. Yeah, KMOX kept saying on the pregame that the weather was pushing through and the game would be played. That was right up until they called it.
  11. One of my boys is going to basic training on Wednesday, so the family was going to the Cards game on Sunday. We were at our exit to Busch when they called it. Sucks.
  12. Maybe they will just call The University of Texas the "Texas Longhorns". That will make the ags happy.
  13. @Sbbruin Why don't you go to the 2022 Dodgers tread to gloat? This is a safe space for Cardinal fans to bitch.
  14. Or an 80+ year old Jonathan Banks playing a 22 year old rookie cop in Philly.
  15. I think the high strike outs hurt him. His best years were kind of prior (at least I think) to analytics really becoming an important part of baseball. ETA: Playing for Cincinnati didn't help him either. That's probably the biggest issue.
  16. I am disappointed that I missed those.
  17. Sammy Sosa and Adam Dunn come to mind.
  18. I can't really fault him for giving Pujols a start yesterday since Philly was going with a bullpen game. I also won't fault Oli for much. I place the blame entirely on Mo. He just pisses me off. When he talks, the inflection of his voice always rises at the end of a statement, like he's asking a question. Girsch does the same thing and it annoys the shit out of me. It sounds like neither of them actually know what they are talking about. Oh, and they suck at their jobs. I don't know if the fault lies with Mo or the DeWitts, but Mo just irritates me.
  19. I'm afraid that they are going to waste an incredible season by Goldy.
  20. Good quote from Edmonds last night I'm paraphrasing, but: You can't get it close if you don't score any runs. Then when they were talking about the likelihood of some coach in Arenado's past telling him to stop being Nolan, Edmonds says something like "well, coaches tell elite athletes that all the time! I had a coach tell me..." He just likes to talk about himself.
  21. But it's everyone else's fault that Angel Hernandez is passed over for crew chief. It's not because he's a shitty umpire.
  22. Hopefully all he is doing at this point is increasing his trade value. I just don't trust Mo.
