Trump’s America
Well in the case of vaccines, it’s not good at all. We are not in short supply of vaccines, so it does not free up more for the rest of us. As vaccination rates in the population decline, depending on the disease, we start to lose herd immunity. Then, even the responsible vaccinated people are at higher risk of contracting the disease from the unvaccinated people around them. Joe Rogan is a problem for spreading misinformation, but I’m more worried about RFK. He could roll back public health decades.

Running / Triathlon Thread
I’d like to do another marathon this year. I’ve done 3 in the past, most recent being Dallas BMW in Dec 2022. My time was 3:54:49 which was my PR. I have my eye on the Cowtown on Feb 23. I live in FW so it would be convenient, plus there are no other big marathons in this region later in the spring. I could maybe wait for OKC but I don’t like Oklahoma. Not sure if I’m where I want to be from a training standpoint. Holidays and weather have been a hindrance. My longest runs thus far have been 13.1, 14.5, 16.5, and 13.1. I’d like to get to 20+ over the next 3 weeks to actually feel good about it.

Silo (Apple TV+) - Premiers May 5th
I really enjoyed that episode and feel like we are finally going somewhere. The people forcing Juliette to open the vault were an irrational bunch. She narrowed it down to 6 codes that could all be attempted within 2 days, but they wanted to kill her or Silo right then because they were hungry and needed food right that instant? They’ve been scavenging in that Silo for decades.

Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet, Now Starting for the Miami Dolphins
As a general rule, I don’t have ill will towards any Longhorns as long as they represent The University well. Be it Chris Simms or Blake Gideon or Garrett Gilbert or Bert Auburn. Quinn Ewers falls in that group. I appreciate the things he did well but he was also extremely frustrating to watch as a player. The recruiting rankings and hype were extremely high, even had Heisman talk going into this year, and in the end we saw QB play more similar to Simms or Ehlinger than we did Colt. When we had Colt and the game was on the line, I always felt he had it in him to make the critical pass and keep the game alive. Watching Quinn, I never felt that way. There were obviously many highlights like 4th and 13 against ASU where he made a clutch play to help win a tight game. There were also many missed opportunities like an overthrow to a wide open Golden on 3rd and 5 when we were trying to take the lead in the 4th quarter. Sark botched the playcalling at 1st and goal, but prior to that, there were plenty of other plays in the game that simply weren’t made, and I think an elite QB needs to be able to do that. I also think our offensive playbook was somewhat limited this year because of Quinn’s highly inconsistent deep ball and his inability to scramble away from a collapsing pocket. I usually don’t concern myself with off the field issues, but I do follow several Longhorns on IG and I was not a fan of our starting QB making political posts in the middle of the football season. When that was going at the same time we were watching on-field struggles post injury, Quinn alienated me a little bit as a fan. He was a drastic improvement from wandering in the desert with Case, Thompson, Buechele, Swoopes, etc, but those guys also had a much less talented team around them and far worse coaching from Strong and Herman. So I’m happy that Quinn played a role in returning Texas to prominence, and he was good enough to allow this upward trajectory to occur, but I think Texas needs better in order to win an actual championship. Hopefully Arch is the guy. Good luck to Quinn in whatever he does next.

Where Should I Retire...?
I have horrible allergies in Texas, so escaping allergies would be a minor goal if we leave Texas. I never seem to have allergies when visiting Colorado but the dry air usually gives me chapped lips and pretty dry skin. Denver is an option on our list but that’s a small concern for me.

Southern CA Fires- Extreme Santa Ana Winds
Had a family member who used to live there. Many visits growing up allowed me to build my CD collection from that Tower Records on Ventura Blvd. She is the reason a Texas kid became a lifelong Dodgers fan. I hate seeing all of this. Good luck to Sbbruin and all the other surly Angelenos.

Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet, Now Starting for the Miami Dolphins
Why do people keep suggesting that Quinn returned our program to relevance? He was an adequate QB that mostly allowed us to win the games we should’ve won with the overwhelming talent advantage we had all around him. A few times he came very close to destroying the upward trajectory of our program (see: aggy game). He played well against Bama and Michigan but he played average or below average in many other games. Maybe we should start thanking Bert Auburn for back-to-back playoff appearances. Texas is better after Bert helped return us to prominence.

In what regard? Chris Simms was a play away from a national championship game at one point. The gap between Colt and Quinn is massive.- Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet, Now Starting for the Miami Dolphins
Why does that one play have to linger when he did that repeatedly even in his 3rd year? Have you already forgotten how unnecessarily close the aggy game was after back-to-back Quinn blunders? That’s who he is.- Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet, Now Starting for the Miami Dolphins
This is it in a nutshell. Sark is absolutely to blame for the playcalling when it was 1st and 1 from the 1 yard line. That was horrendous and worthy of discussion elsewhere. But we scored 14 points and our QB overthrew balls, underthrew balls, and has a knack for stepping into a collapsing pocket to self sack. He scrambles once or twice a game only because it is so completely unexpected, but he is not a threat on the ground and has no ability to scramble outside the pocket and make a pass or a play with his legs. On 95% of plays he moves a total of 2 yds from where he initially receives the snap. The comparisons to Chris Simms are true only if you put Chris Simms in ski boots.- Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet, Now Starting for the Miami Dolphins
