Fair enough, it might actually enhance that beach.

We would have a car to get around. We often like to charter a boat with a captain to take us around for a day. I assume we’ll attempt that for one day, but I see that renting the inflatable Zodiac boats is a common practice so we may do it that one day as well. Any experience with either of those? The eastern coastline looks gorgeous. Corsica was insanely beautiful. Thanks for the advice.

FedEx shipment missing / stolen

I submitted the formal info to the police so they can let the DA file criminal charges. It wouldn’t get me any money but it would potentially punish her for being a thief and there’s justice in that. I told the package thief about this and initially she ghosted me for a week. I guess she thought I was bluffing or else wanted to take her chances with the legal system. Today she messaged back and agreed to pay me via Venmo. She doesn’t have the full amount but I agreed to accept it in 3 payments. If she follows through on that, I will drop the police charges. -
Have you ever been to a beach covered in sargassum? It's gross, it smells horrible, and it irritates your skin.

Auto-Immune Disease(s): A Thread
wild_turkey replied to TurkeyChew's topic in Can You Help Me With This?
Good deal. Didn’t realize you hadn’t seen a rheumatologist yet. That’s pretty critical for confirming the diagnosis and determining the best long term treatment. Hopefully the prednisone helps in the meantime. -

Sorry to hear about your situation. What is your question? Whether or not prednisone treatment is advisable? Prednisone can help a lot of autoimmune and inflammatory conditions, but it also has side effects and risk. You mentioned having diabetes and one risk of prednisone is worsening blood sugar control. It would be up to your doctor to determine if the potential benefits of treatment justify the risks in your specific case. You mentioned having significant pain. Did your doctor offer any treatment recommendations for this? -
I went. They didn’t pick me but I went.

Anyone been? I searched and saw a single post from sidis. Thinking about going for the week leading up to Labor Day. Would plan to stay 7-8 nights and split in between 2 locations, probably up north around Costa Smeralda and then down south by Cagliari. We did something very similar in Corsica last summer and loved it. We’re thinking Sardinia is essentially the Italian version of that, which seems pretty close to perfect. Goals are to visit gorgeous beaches, eat delicious food, drink all the wine, and spend some time on a boat. Appreciate any recs along those lines.

That was fantastic. Love the Jamie and Roy story that’s brewing. Two guys that hate each other quickly becoming buddies. And playing “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head” during the bike scene was a perfect nod to Butch Cassidy.

I filed a claim with Chase. Sounds like they may cover it but I’m sure the person that reviews claims is an expert in finding exclusions. -
Loved the book. Probably a top 3 book for me. Been meaning to read it again so maybe this gives me a reason. Trailer looks good but I’m a tiny bit skeptical because Netflix has been underwhelming lately and because Shawn Levy’s filmography is pretty weak. Hopefully they prove me wrong.

FedEx shipment missing / stolen
wild_turkey replied to wild_turkey's topic in Can You Help Me With This?
I reported it stolen to the police. They took pretty detailed information and said the detectives will probably want the security video and screenshots of all conversations, which I will happily provide to them. I doubt I ever see the package or the money again. I also kind of doubt she will actually see any legal consequences because she can deny it. When she is shown on camera holding it, she can claim it's a different package since the video is not high enough resolution to show the label. Regarding the person selling the items on Facebook, she can deny knowing her or giving her those items. I sort of doubt the police will devote much time to pursuing it, but at least if they make her life miserable for a period of time and she gets fired from her property management job, that's some form of retribution. I will have my wife talk to the online retailer to see if they will do anything, and it was purchase on a Chase Sapphire Reserve card which also has theft protection, so maybe one of those will be helpful for getting some money back. -
What about Gerri holding the dick pics card? Kendall and Roman are both vulnerable.

FedEx shipment missing / stolen
wild_turkey replied to wild_turkey's topic in Can You Help Me With This?
The package had neither her name nor her address on it. It had my wife’s name on it and the address of a house that does not belong to her. Under no circumstances can Karen claim this was a gift to her. I would also argue that keeping packages with other people’s names on them is pretty shitty behavior. I’ve occasionally had a stray package show up at my house and I return them to the shipper to return to the sender. That’s just being a decent human bring. -

Sure, but it’s an honest simple mistake, and human decency would involve returning a package to the rightful owner, or at least allowing them to pick it up from you. It takes a pretty scummy person to be in this situation and feel like it’s okay to sell the contents of a package that was mistakenly delivered to a house you are paid to take care of. -

Well given that she didn’t pay for the stuff, she doesn’t own or live at the house, and she removed something from a house she is employed to take care of, I would say that is the very definition of theft. You could argue that we made a mistake that allowed our shipment to be in the wrong place, but there is no argument to be made that she had any claim to that package. She stole it and lied to us and to the owners of the house. -

I don’t have her license plate but the owners of the house do. They have a driveway cam that shows her getting in the car. They have been surprisingly helpful and they seem a little pissed off that their management person has been exposed for being a sketchy person. I want the merchandise back because: A) it’s $900 B) my wife paid for something she hasn’t received and would have to choose between buying it again or living without it C) the principle of the matter - someone stole something that doesn’t belong to her and I know exactly who she is, where she lives, her phone number, and I don’t want her to get away with it. -
My wife ordered about $1,000 worth of clothes from an online retailer. For whatever reason, the checkout process switched the shipping address to a house we lived in 6 years ago. No clue why because she orders from them semi regularly and it always arrives at our current address which is saved on her account. The FedEx tracking shows it was delivered on 3/28 with a picture of it on the doorstep of our former house. One of the items shipped separately and also arrived on 4/1. I still had a phone number in the closing documents for the person who bought the house, so I texted her to ask if she still lived there and if we could send a friend by to retrieve the packages. She still owns the house but it is now Airbnb and she lives in another town. She said the tenants had messaged her that 2 packages were received and they set them inside the house. The owner gave me the number of her local property manager (let’s call her Karen) and said to contact Karen to arrange for our friend to pick them up. I called Karen who was out of town but said she would get them to our friend when she returned in a few days. It seemed simple enough but then Karen became slow to respond to my texts and calls and it took from 4/4 until 4/13 when she finally said she left it on the front porch for our friend to get. Our friend went and there was only one package, which was the second smaller package. The first one, which has $900 worth of dresses in it, was not there. I messaged Karen and tried calling her to ask about the other package. She was slow to respond but now says there was only one package. She says the other package was something else that got delivered to the wrong house and she took it to them already. I called the owner of the house who was super friendly and helpful and reviewed her Ring camera footage from the day of delivery, which shows our package being delivered at the house, and later shows Karen taking the exact same package to her car. She sent me screenshots. At this point I’m starting to suspect Karen is lying so I searched Facebook marketplace for some of the items and I found a person in their city selling them. Same dresses, same sizes, new with tags. I messaged the seller last night and offered to buy them. I was friendly towards her and offered to pay for shipping. She said she was selling them for a friend but they are no longer for sale because her friend wanted them back. I asked the friend’s name and she confirmed it was Karen. Busted. When I explained the situation she said she actually worked for Karen but that Karen owed her money and they aren’t on good terms. She suggested I talk to Karen. I texted Karen about it, told her I have a pretty good idea of what happened and I just wanted the stuff back. I would pay her a finder’s fee plus shipping if she would simply locate the items and return it to us. Then we could put the whole thing behind us. Karen said she’s on a flight home and she would contact me today once she figures out what’s going. My question is, if she refuses to give it back, do I have any recourse against her? I have video of her putting the package in her car, screenshots of the merchandise for sale on Facebook, and screenshots of the conversation with the seller in which she says Karen gave her the merchandise. Should I file a police report to report it stolen, in hopes that it would motivate her to play ball? Is this a small claims court situation? TLDR: 1. Wife’s online order ($900 of clothes) delivered to wrong address 2. Delivery address is an Airbnb 3. Airbnb property manager took the package and gave it to an acquaintance to sell 4. I would like to know if there is a way to get it back

Okay, so just to address both of those points and your objections to each: 1. You seem to be of the belief that banning assault weapons would not help because there are already too many in circulation. The counterpoint is that both the Uvalde shooter and the Louisville bank shooter bought a brand new AR-15 within days of their respective massacres. That’s 19 dead children, 2 dead teachers, and 6 dead bank employees. And that’s just the easy memorable shootings from the past year. If the purchase of new assault weapons were not permitted, both of those shooters would still be able to buy a gun, but presumably they would choose something that has a lower capacity and is less effective for committing mass murder. Maybe in that scenario, we end up with different death totals from those two events. Maybe it’s only 17 dead children, 2 dead teachers, and 5 dead bank employees. Thats 3 murder victims still alive today. That’s a win. Is there some part of that you would dispute? 2. You also seem to believe that it is politically impossible to ban assault weapons. There have been many times in the history of our country that people thought something was politically out of reach. The right to vote, gay marriage, buy weed - the list is endless. It’s only impossible if people believe it’s impossible and everyone gives up. Your subsequent posts took a little bit of the opposite stance regarding changing things with our votes (which this is the politics board and I’m not sure how else it would change), so maybe I’m not clear your true thoughts on this part. Look, I’m not suggesting an assault weapons ban would fix everything, nor is it the only change I want to see implemented. It just appears to be low hanging fruit and an obvious thing to target as part of gun control legislation. And I’m bewildered why someone who claims to be a reasonable responsible gun owner would cling so hard to the right to buy an AR-15 other than to justify your own personal ownership of one, because otherwise you might feel a tad bit hypocritical. Like maybe you don’t want to admit to yourself that your toy (which you claim is for “reference” purposes) is also the preferred weapon of mass murder for many of these shootings, and your right to buy that toy also allowed Salvador Ramos and Connor Sturgeon and [insert yet to be named mass shooter in May 2023] to buy their murder weapons.

Why do you keep saying this (assault weapons ban) is out of reach? Is it your belief that there are already too many assault weapons in circulation, so banning them now would not make a difference? In other words, the battle has been lost and we should just give up? Or are you simply saying it is highly unlikely to occur for political reasons? Legit questions, looking for a straightforward answer. Spare me the talking in circles and blaming political parties and deflections. I just want an honest answer why assault weapons cannot be banned. From where I stand, it seems that banning assault weapons is both physically and politically possible. Other first world countries exist where people are unable to legally purchase these weapons, and those countries seem to do just fine without them. It also seems that at least some of these mass shootings are committed with a recently purchased AR-15, and if they were not available to purchase, those shooters would have to choose a different weapon that is presumably less efficient for committing mass murder. Even if their next best choice is only 5% less effective, when you add up the number of victims in mass shootings, many of them children, that translates into saving human lives. (at the small expense of some men no longer being able to purchase their preferred toy) I'm really struggling to see the downside of banning assault weapons, and I'm struggling to understand your position that it's not possible. I say this as someone who grew up in a rural Texas town where guns are commonplace. I personally own 2 pistols that I never use and are locked away. I have friends that own AR-15s and some of them beat their chests over them as if they have a Super Bowl ring, and there was a point in my life when I probably thought that was cool and just a fun way to shoot stupid shit in the country, but my mind changed on that a long time ago when these stupid pointless weapons keep getting used for mass murder. It angers me to no end and it is the sole reason I will turn out to vote, even if that means voting for someone who I disagree with many other political points on.

I listened to the audiobook of this and didn’t particularly like it, which I think is partly due to the interview format and constantly hearing people state their name before speaking 2 lines and then moving onto the next character. The story felt like the Hallmark version of Almost Famous. Most of the main characters had a happy ending, but there were drug references and f-words sprinkled throughout in an attempt to make it sound dark and edgy. Rock and roll music is full of real life stories that involve actual tragedy, so this kinda flirted with tragedy but never let anyone suffer any serious consequences, and the story felt a little too clean and polished as a result. Most of you seem to like the series. Is it still worth a watch if I didn’t love the audiobook?

Can someone help me understand the legal mechanics of all of this? Mifepristone was approved by the FDA in 2000 and now we have a conservative federal judge from Texas essentially saying it shouldn’t have been approved and issuing a ruling that would revoke that approval starting on April 14. Presumably the reason is that he reviewed the approval process and determined (in his expert medical opinion as a judge) that it isn’t safe and the risks are too high. Is that part correct? Is there a place to read the specifics that went into this decision? So if this goes into effect in 7 days, the drug would lose its approval nationwide which would make it no longer attainable for anyone in this country. Except that meanwhile, a different federal judge in Washington state has issued a ruling that would block the FDA from pulling the drug. I’m unclear on this part because that ruling is based on a lawsuit from a coalition of 17 states, so would that only apply to continued mifepristone use in those states, or would it in theory be a nationwide ruling to allow continued use in all states? And since these rulings are directly contradictory, that puts the FDA in a jam because honoring either ruling requires violating the other. Which if both rulings stand, that seems to be headed for the SCOTUS to make a decision, correct? And we kinda know how that will go. Is there any prior example of a judge overruling the FDA regarding approval of a medication? Putting the specific topic of abortion aside, why on earth would a judge have the authority to make decisions that supersede the one agency our country has trusted to regulate public health and access to medical care? The FDA is an organization of thousands of doctors and medical experts and the judge has no medical background whatsoever.
