  1. Just watched this and it was so horrifically bad it might be enough for me to cancel Netflix. The scene in the square when Gosling is handcuffed to a bench and 30 bad guys with assault rifles and rocket launchers surround him, but they don’t manage to kill him because they are busy playing GTA with oncoming cops and civilians. Wtf?! Did a 13 year old kid write this? I get turning your brain off for a popcorn action flick, but this would require a complete lobotomy. It makes the average Michael Bay movie look intelligent. Bad Boys 2 is Casablanca compared to this.
  2. This is a horrible take. Sorry the little girl in this show isn’t hot enough for you, but Bella Ramsey is doing a fantastic job and it’s hard to imagine a better casting at this point.
  3. Didn’t get to watch until today. Agree with many of the comments here. Incredibly intense episode that had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Multiple fist pumps as the group of religious cannibals slowly got decimated. And that reunion between Ellie and Joel at the end…wow. Bella Ramsey has been incredible in this series. Pedro Pascal as well, but given the last 2 episodes have been more Ellie centric, she’s started to steal the show. With one episode left, this is probably the most polished season of television I’ve seen in several years.
  4. I would think the surviving son could change his name, move to a new state or country, and live a relatively anonymous life. It would be much easier if he has access to family money, although maybe his POS dad blocks him from receiving any. That being said, even if he is innocent of all the crimes surrounding his family, he will surely be a psychological wreck for life. His inner demons will probably be far worse than his outward social interactions.
  5. I just caught up on all of this, but my completely ignorant guess would be that he was spending $50k/month on something other than opiates, and that the opiate addiction is a cover for a worse offense (hookers? hush money?) that he didn’t want to come to light. Obviously there was some money spent on opiates, but $50k/month is hard for me to believe.
  6. I want to like the show because it’s lighthearted and I think it’s good to have one of those in the rotation, but I struggle with this flavor of humor that depends on continuous cringe comments and self inflicted problems from the main character.
  7. I don’t know if we will ever find a perfect fit for Texas Basketball, but we will absolutely find a better fit than Chris Beard because we will hopefully find a coach that doesn’t have a crazy fiancée who he fights with, possibly chokes her, and gets arrested and charged for felony assault. I don’t care if the charges were dropped. That type of shit simply doesn’t happen to normal people who are in control of their personal lives. His relationship is a massive liability. I would almost argue Chris Beard was the worst possible fit we could’ve had. On court success doesn’t matter when you allow your personal life to be a black eye for The University. Charlie Strong was a better fit for Texas Football than Chris Beard was for Texas basketball. If someone else wants to take a chance on him, that’s their prerogative. Maybe he wins a championship elsewhere or maybe he embarrasses that university too. We’re better off without him.
  8. I assume you mean the part about the U.S. not lying on that grand of a scale, or not covering things up at that level. I agree with you that there have been major coverups throughout our history but I like to believe we have a culture that expects and pursues the truth, and that many of the events in our history that you would point out (if we were in CR but I can guess what they are) have since been exposed and investigated with some degree of repercussions for those involved. Perhaps it’s prison time or perhaps it’s loss of political office, or loss of political capital for a given party, but there are consequences. In recent years you could argue that America unfortunately has 2-3 “truths” on most topics, but I think a reasonably intelligent and politically unbiased person has the ability to look at the facts for a given topic and make a good judgment about where the actual truth is. China has one “truth” which is whatever the PRC says, even if that is a blatant lie. There is no expectation for investigating and exposing the actual truth on anything because doing so could be a death sentence. There is no room for dissent and certainly no hope for anyone to ever understand a complex topic like COVID. It’s a complete black box buried in lies.
  9. Although I think there's truth to the idea that many democratic governments would attempt some degree of a cover-up in the early stages of an outbreak, I don't think the U.S. government would blatantly lie to maintain that cover-up coverup 3 years into a pandemic that killed over 7 million people. China has lied to the entire world every step of the way going on 3 years now. It was catastrophic in the initial stages of the pandemic, continues to prevent a proper investigation into the origins of the virus, which also impedes efforts to prevent a similar pandemic in the future. They constantly lie to their own population, resulting in a disaster over the past 6 months, and the general Chinese population doesn't seem to have any idea what's going on most of this time. Just mass confusion with no options but to blindly follow the orders of their government. They will continue to lie to everyone and refuse to work with world health agencies. Good luck with any suggestion that they tighten up lab safety protocols or restrict zoonotic transmission in wet markets because they will lie to everyone about that too. Nothing even close to this level of blatant deception could ever occur in the U.S. or
  10. Same exact spot and I decided to wait for the show to progress before playing any farther.
  11. I don't know yet. They are supposed to send a new summons in the mail soon. All I know is the date.
  12. I'm not special. There seems to be some confusion between not wanting to do something and not doing something. At least for me, those are 2 different things. I don't want to have jury duty. I am going to jury duty. I gave my reasons for not wanting jury duty, which seems to have struck a nerve with a couple people, but it doesn't change the fact that I am going to jury duty. Although if I'm one of the people that gets dismissed before showing up, that would make me pretty happy. Sorry if that's a bad attitude to have, but I'm never going to want jury duty and I don't think that's a minority opinion on the matter.
  13. We’ve had at least one ski trip every year for the past 10 years. Thought this year would be our year to miss out due to having a baby, but we saw too many IG videos of badass powder days and we impulse booked this coming weekend in Telluride. We will only ski one day but that’s enough to scratch the itch and Telluride is our domestic home away from home. Give me some Brown Dog and a Tempter IPA, please and thank you. Maybe a long lunch at Bon Vivant with some runs down The Plunge to finish out the day. So excited.
  14. It's a show with a great story, acting, music, and overall production quality, set in a world where zombies exist. If you really hate zombies stories, then the positives probably can't overcome that, which is fine. Certainly not for everyone. If you're willing to give it a chance beyond the occasional zombie scene, it's been a fantastic series so far. That's why your coworker wanted you to try it so much, which you did and it simply may not be for you.
  15. Just curious, why is the lack of a smoking gun reason to believe that it came from the wild? For me, I kind of lean the opposite. If it came from the wild and China had any evidence to support that, I think they would be eagerly sharing that information to absolve themselves from any societal wrongdoing. It was a true case of bad luck for humanity and here are the facts to support that. The lack of transparency from China makes me lean more in the direction of human negligence within the Wuhan lab. I honestly don't know and I don't think the general public will ever know.
  16. I enjoyed tonight's episode. It didn't advance the plot much, but I think it adds a lot of depth to Ellie's character and helps us understand her motivations for certain things.
  17. Wow, okay. Let's back up for a second because I'm honestly interested in some adult discord on this subject, beyond you telling me to eat a dick or you hoping that I eventually get sued. 1. Do I want to have jury duty or be selected to be on the jury? No. (simple answer, as I stated before) 2. What is my reason for not wanting jury duty? I feel a strong sense of responsibility to my patients and don't want to reschedule a day of clinic, let alone multiple days or even weeks of clinic and/or surgical appointments. That responsibility applies to any unplanned absences - personal illness, family emergencies, ice storms, jury duty, etc. Which of my responses do you have a problem with? If it is #1, do you feel that everyone should welcome jury duty with open arms? Look forward to it? Feel honored to take part in it? Any negative feelings towards jury duty make someone a bad person? If it is #2, where do you draw the line between a valid reason for wanting out of jury duty vs. an invalid reason or selfish reason? Please note that I am not asking for a list of actual legal exemptions because that has already been provided and I have already stated that I am going. I would merely be wondering, what in your mind constitutes a valid reason for an individual person to not want to do it?
  18. Man, sorry if I struck a nerve with that, but yeah I do care more about my job than I care about being on a jury. That doesn't mean my job is more important than yours or anyone else's, nor did I ever say anything along those lines. It simply means that in my own personal list of priorities, showing up for work is more important to me than whatever civic duty I am supposed to feel in regards to being on a jury. I try pretty hard to avoid unplanned absences because I know how that affects other people, especially on short notice. I feel like when someone makes an appointment to see me, that I have a commitment to them and I need to be respectful of their time. Maybe they've scheduled their own work around that appointment, or maybe they have a family member traveling from out of town to help them. Whatever the case, there's a ripple effect for some people and I try to minimize that as much as possible. Am I unique in this? Certainly not, which is why I said that I understand why other people would also want to get out of jury duty.
  19. Went to Lucille's yesterday and had a bloody mary so this post hits close to home.
  20. I never said anywhere in my post that my job is more important than anyone else's job. I said that it's problematic with my line of work, and I can understand that it would be problematic for many other working people as well, and it's no surprise that people want to get out of it, myself included.
  21. I’ve been playing the game for the first time and just caught up to the point of Joel’s injury. Wife convinced me to stop to avoid spoilers but it’s very tempting to keep going. At first I assumed he would live through it, but I’m considering the possibility that he could die and the game/show could shift to everything being from Ellie’s perspective. I hope not because the dynamic between them makes the story great. I’m not entirely sure we’ll get the answer to this question tonight.
  22. I got summoned for the first time back in the fall. I filled out the online form and deferred it. The next summons came a couple months ago and I couldn’t defer online, so I emailed them and they gave me a one month deferral. My next date is March 20 which I plan to go to. I’m not sure if I could’ve deferred again but I didn’t want to eventually get stuck with a very bad date down the road. I’m a physician and these have all been relatively short notice, requiring me to reschedule 30+ appointments that were already booked. Very frustrating for me and not all patients are super understanding of that because they had already made their own arrangements to be at their appointment. I definitely do not want to be picked. I don’t care about my civic duty because my primary duty is to my patients and if I’m selected for the jury and have to miss multiple days or even weeks, that’s highly problematic for everyone. I realize other people also have important jobs and jury duty is rarely convenient, but this is potentially a huge pain in the ass and it’s understandable why people really wouldn’t want to do it.
  23. You may be right. I did some random searches on routes I would routinely book each year and the amount of miles required is pretty high. Significantly higher than AA which I'm more familiar with their mileage redemption. I'm concerned that even when I do want to fly Delta, which is once every 1-2 years, the flights I would want will require too many miles and I'll end up just paying cash then anyways. Can't decide if it's worth a $250 AF just for the sake of stockpiling 90k miles that I may use one day.
  24. I can’t imagine starting and not finishing Top Gun. You had to know what you were signing up for and it delivered exactly that. It’s not like you thought it was one kind of movie and then got a different kind of movie. If you don’t like that, why even start it?
  25. I’ve recently done CSR, CSP, and Amex Gold. I’m not eligible for Capital One currently. I fly mostly AA and rotate their Citi and Barclay cards to get signup bonuses and other small perks. If there was another good offer in front of me then maybe I would take it, but I do occasionally fly Delta so it seems reasonable to pay a $250 AF to bank 90k miles that won’t expire. I would cancel the card after the bonus. Someone point me in the right direction if there’s a better option out there.
