  1. Serious question, how does aggy approach midnight yell practice for Miami this week? They have to do it, because tradition, but sports fans across the country are eagerly waiting to see those same 4 yell leaders go out there and make fools of themselves again. A week after making lame jokes about App State, then losing to App State, then becoming a nationwide punchline, they have to do it again, for everyone to see. Will they cancel their own live stream and prohibit cameras?
  2. Went to see The Killers in Fort Worth tonight. What a great show.
  3. Youā€™re such a tourist. Be careful though, there are white women in Cabo.
  4. Well despite my lukewarm feelings on season 1, I'm watching season 2 and liking it a little more through 5 episodes.
  5. Regardless of what most people think about GoT seasons 7-8, most people that enjoy this type of show would agree that GoT seasons 1-4 were some of the best in television history. So if your measuring stick for HOTD is to compare it to the first season of GoT, you probably just need to get ready to be disappointed. Itā€™s a completely new show with new characters, stories, and conflicts. It probably wonā€™t be as good as GoT season 1, but that doesnā€™t stop it from being a good show in its own right and hopefully have a clean story that doesnā€™t tank at the end.
  6. Hah, ok Iā€™m dumb then. I suppose I just thought since itā€™s 5 days and each episode was 1 day, that it was a 5 episode series. Thanks for filling me in.
  7. I wanted to like this show a lot more than I actually did. I felt there were some big holes in their recounting of the events, and I canā€™t tell how much of that is grounded in reality and how much is simply TV drama or bad storytelling. Lots of bad and irrational decisions were made by everyone involved. A lot of that was probably true due to the people on the ground having poor planning, limited resources, sleep deprivation, etc. But as a viewer, I had a hard time understanding certain things and felt the show couldā€™ve done a better job laying that out. The first 2-3 episodes showed various staff members being interviewed after the fact. Why did they abandon that aspect in later episodes? My brief internet reading says all charges against staff were eventually dropped, but the show hinted at an investigation and never actually gave us any information there. What about the hundreds of civilians that sought refuge in the hospital? I would think many of them left on their own accord at some point, but the show made that seem like an unthinkable idea, then never explained what they did and leaves us to assume they were all evacuated at the end. Why kill the dogs prematurely? Why not wait until the last people are literally walking out the door to take that action? Why when a single helicopter shows up does the staff immediately start wheeling multiple NICU babies up to the helipad without any indication that there will actually be a second helicopter? Lots more questions along the way. Maybe the book answers more of those but Iā€™m probably not going to read it now. Would be curious if anyone else has and could provide more insight.
  8. We did Telluride the last 2 years. Itā€™s our absolute favorite but weā€™re taking a year off for the sake of variety. Looking at either Big Sky (never been) or Park City (we have been).
  9. Appreciate all the suggestions. Iā€™m not looking to completely soundproof the room, just somewhat reduce the sound transmission through the wall. You can hear normal conversation through it pretty easily as it is. Not really an issue now, but it may be frustrating when thereā€™s a baby in there and weā€™re trying to sleep. Also, we probably have 2-3 more years in this house, so Iā€™m leaning towards an easier fix like adding insulation over a more complicated fix like replacing the drywall.
  10. Thatā€™s the type of solution I had in mind. On the surface, it seems like it should work. Would you say it helped reduce sound transmission in your case?
  11. Master bedroom shares a wall with what will become an infantā€™s bedroom. Noise transmission through the wall has always been subpar but it never mattered before.
  12. I donā€™t understand the relevance of your post to this thread. Did you read another CS Lewis book recently that made you think of that experience from your teenage years? This is the ā€œWatcha reading?ā€ thread, which is a present participle that indicates current action.
  13. Is it possible to do this? I've heard of injectable foam insulation that gets injected through small holes, which looks like I would need to find a local company that offers this. Does it actually help reduce sound transmission? Alternatively, could I cut a 3-4" hole near the ceiling between each stud and manually add insulation through the hole? Then patch the holes? Looking for options that don't involve tearing out the drywall and replacing it entirely.
  14. 1. Thatā€™s not weird to me at all. 2. Thereā€™s more than 3 generations in 200 years.
  15. I had zero expectations but I really enjoyed it. Agreed with others that it felt good to be back in the GoT universe for a while.
  16. You canā€™t go wrong with either. Ellerbe is probably our favorite restaurant in town. Go there 2-3 times a year and itā€™s always excellent. Grace is also great but for some reason I forget it exists. Havenā€™t been since probably pre-Covid days. Need to fix that.
  17. I mostly enjoyed the finale. It focused more on the space stuff which is the entire reason to watch this show. Danny and Jimmy were horrible to watch the entire season and their respective storylines were dragging the show down. We got less of that this episode which was a great thing. The North Korean backstory was interesting to me, and agreed with whoever referenced Desmond from LOST because thatā€™s exactly what I thought of. Molly needed more screen time all season. With the departure of Margot, they shouldā€™ve made Molly a surviving hero from the bombing and let her go on to lead NASA. Sheā€™s a badass and the show needs her type of character. I still liked Margot throughout this season. She gets criticism for being a traitor, but my interpretation is that she and Sergei collaborated over many years for the sake of advancing human space exploration, regardless of citizenship status or political lines. Her commitment was to that cause and she served it well. I think she couldā€™ve died in this episode, but I guess they still plan to use her in future seasons. Dev and Karen and Helios sucked. Obviously meant to represent Elon and SpaceX and private space exploration, but they are the most boring group of characters. Karen is obviously gone, hopefully Dev and the rest are too. I was pretty frustrated with this show at the middle of this season mostly due to the Stevens brothersā€™ storylines, but they did just enough at the end to win me back and Iā€™ll be looking forward to season 4.
  18. This is apparently more problematic than I originally thought. My door dimensions are 76" H x 58" W, which is not a common size. I contacted the contractor of our house (it was an extensive remodel, not entirely new construction) who told me the doors were purchased from a local surplus store 4 years ago. I went to the surplus store and they no longer have any doors that size, nor can they order them. They say it's a custom size (which almost everyone says) but that makes no sense to me because the contractor could've chosen any size doors for this space, so I don't see why they would opt for a more expensive custom size vs. a less expensive standard size. Builders/contractors generally lean towards cheaper options. I went to another surplus store that has a nearly identical wood door for a $998 which I think is a great price, but that door size is 80" x 60". I also went to Lowe's who is going to send someone to my house to check everything out, but they are predicting that I will need to get fiberglass doors at about $2,000/door, then it will be painted instead of stained wood. Probably a little better longevity going with fiberglass, but it won't look as nice IMO. I may just buy the larger size wood door from the second surplus store and see if a carpenter can modify the door frame enough to accommodate the larger door.
  19. I sent you a PM a while back but never heard a response. Maybe check your inbox?
  20. Finally got around to watching season 3 and loved every bit of it. So many great moments: - Butcher and Hughie on temp V, especially Hughie's random nude teleporting - Herogasm and the running "Frenchie will be disappointed he missed this" joke - Homelander continuing to go off the rails and his parallels to Trump - Seth Rogen on a sex webcam with Crimson Countess - Frenchie and Kimiko's entire story arc - The Deep becoming Homelander's bitch boy while juggling his girlfriend and his octopus side piece - Stormfront giving a handy to Homelander from her hospital bed - A-train's energy feud with Blue Hawk I would like to find a God, Guns & Homelander hat, but I'm also concerned that 95% of people wouldn't understand the meaning and I might send a message I don't intend to send.
  21. Station Eleven was one of my favorite series of the last few years. HBO is reportedly making 2 of Emily St. John Mandel's other books - The Glass Hotel and Sea of Tranquilty - both of which are good reads for anyone interested, into their own limited series. I think all of these series fall under the HBO Max production side, but who really knows. Hoping these changes within HBO don't cause those series to get axed.
  22. I get the consumer access side of things. Iā€™m more curious about the content production. Is there a distinction on that side?
  23. I donā€™t fully understand the distinction between HBO and HBO Max. I sort of considered them to be the same thing, even though some series are labeled as HBO series and others are Max originals. Is there an actual difference? HBO has made some of the very best television of the past 15-20 years, so anything that cuts into that would be very shitty. Would these rumored changes just affect the Max originals or all HBO programming? Why in the hell would WB/Discovery acquire HBO just to burn it down? Here I was worried that AT&T was going to mess it up.
  24. I thought this was the best episode of the season because it featured more actual space stuff, but it was disappointing that the hab rescue mostly occurred off screen. I suspect thatā€™s for budget reasons to cut down on CGI, which may be why thereā€™s less space stuff this season. Itā€™s hurting the show though. Also weird about the Russian with the subdural hematoma and they were prepping for a craniotomy, then later heā€™s just dead. Seems like unnecessary buildup just to let him die off screen.
