  1. Sure, but that assumes every person in control of nuclear weapons will always act rationally. On a long enough timeline, there will be someone who A) has control of nuclear weapons and B) does not act rationally. Hell, nuclear weapons have existed for less than 100 years and we already have a person (Putin) who possibly checks both of those boxes. We're just waiting to see what he does. Even if he does not resort to nuclear warfare, there will eventually be someone worse, unless you think humanity will face another version of extinction first.
  2. I’m also not sure I agree that nuclear war is the end of humanity. Sure, it could quickly kill off 80% or more of the world population, and render many areas uninhabitable, but it seems unlikely that total extinction is in the cards. There are too many people living in rural areas that would evade nuclear or other forms of war. Seems like it would just be a hard reset and a new human civilization would rise from the ashes.
  3. Just curious, why do you feel that way? If humans are around for another 1,000 years, it seems like a certainty, unless you believe that world peace will magically be achieved for the first time in our existence. The world is currently at the mercy of a crazy Russian dictator who could decide to use them any day now. Hopefully the present situation has a different outcome, but inevitably crazier dictators will rise to power.
  4. Yeah, I don’t care for their YouTube videos but I don’t care for most YouTube personalities. Figured early on they would be annoying but they actually seemed very normal and likable. I think Penn would be fun to drink beer with.
  5. Good finale. I found both Kim/Penn and Raquel/Cayla very likable teams. Positive and supportive of their partners, level headed, low drama. And Raquel, damn girl. In the end, I was pulling for Raquel/Cayla because it seems like the money would mean more for their lives whereas Kim/Penn have kind of already made it, but I can’t complain about the result. Dusty needs to get back on his meds. Surprised to see Arun at the finish line. Figured he would’ve got lost going there.
  6. When can we drop this stupid requirement for Americans to have to take a Covid test when returning from international travel? There is no way it has any public health benefit, and all it causes is wasted time, money, and anxiety for our own citizens.
  7. Will Taylor Sheridan make a 2074 series? Since we are skipping around to different years and all. I would enjoy that more than 1932 or 6666.
  8. Preach. I’ve spent lots of time in the Rockies, everywhere from Taos to the San Juans to RMNP to the Tetons to Yellowstone to Montana to Banff. The scenery in the movie didn’t look remotely close to any of it. It would be like filming the movie Rookie of the Year in Fenway Park and saying that’s where the Cubs play.
  9. I was clicking around on my World of Hyatt page and noticed there is a benefit where every $1 spent on AA flights also nets 1 Hyatt point. Does that mean I get both? Suppose I need to book an AA flight for $1,000 and I use my Chase Sapphire Reserve card to book directly through AA. Am I correct that it would yield 3k Chase points, 1k AA points, and 1k Hyatt points? I fly AA quiet a bit and often their direct prices are the same as Expedia or anywhere else. This seems like the best approach to maximize points in multiple loyalty programs.
  10. Yeah, maybe that’s just me, but it’s annoying when there are obvious geographical differences. Would it bother you if a movie was set in LA but filmed in Miami and repeatedly showed the Miami skyline? Not saying it should bother you, just curious.
  11. I give this series a B- overall. What I liked: acting, visuals, music. What I didn’t like: the story. None of these people were anywhere close to being prepared for the wagon journey they set out on. Shea is possibly the worst because he and Thomas agreed to guide a group of ill-prepared Germans who couldn’t hunt or swim, which ultimately cost most of them their lives. It probably would’ve cost all of them their lives if not for James agreeing to help out free of charge. I guess he wanted to do this so he could shoot himself on a beach, which it sucks that he took everyone else on a death journey with him. James isn’t much better. Led his family by train from Tennessee to Fort Worth, then by wagon to Montana. Not sure what exactly his motivations were for doing that, although I’ll admit maybe it was explained in episode 1 and I just forgot. It resulted in the death of his daughter, SIL, and niece. He may have been slightly better prepared, but they mentioned early on that his family wouldn’t survive the journey solo, so he had to buddy up with a band of misfits. Just seems stupid all around, and that’s not even counting the fact that apparently train travel to the American West was fairly accessible in 1883. And then Elsa… I actually liked her character but the inclusion of back-to-back Ennis/Sam head over heels love interests really degraded her story arc for me. They should’ve made Ennis just a casual fling to make the Sam part more authentic. I think Taylor Sheridan creates good environments but lacks substance. Probably done with his shows at this point, which is fine because there is plenty of better TV out there.
  12. Read the book and thought it was great. Eager to see the series.
  13. Too many NELs this season. I get there are fewer teams so trying to stretch it out, but I’d rather have fewer total episodes and still feel like most of them actually count.
  14. If Russia launches a full invasion, what is Putin’s end game for Ukraine? It’s a hostile takeover and most Ukrainians don’t want to become Russians, so he’s adding 44 million pissed off people to the Russian population? Is he hoping that in 2-3 generations they’ve given up and assimilated and he’s remembered as the guy that won Ukraine back? Perhaps stupid questions. Just wondering if I’m missing the obvious and you guys are pretty good at explaining this situation.
  15. I was lukewarm on this episode until the Holding Out for a Hero scene towards the end. Bravo, Lexi.
  16. Watched this last night, mainly because it got a ton of Oscar nominations. Thought it was pretty meh. Felt like maybe it just didn’t resonate with me and everyone else would be praising it for reasons unbeknownst to me. The comments here seems like it’s universally underwhelming. The setting was beautiful but those mountains clearly were not in Montana and that was distracting to me. It was filmed in New Zealand so that makes sense, but I get annoyed when movies pick a filming location that is obviously different from the story’s setting. I was less impressed with Benedict Cumberbatch than some of you were. It felt like he was playing Christian Bale playing an angry cowboy. Seemed pretty one dimensional and he’s had better work. Not Oscar worthy IMO. Macbeth or French Dispatch should’ve received Best Picture nominations over this.
  17. They are terrible and I’m already preparing myself for the possibility that they win this through multiple strokes of bad luck affecting the other teams.
  18. Episode 5 - Elsa falls madly in love with Ennis and ready to have his baby but then Ennis died. Episode 6 - Elsa mourns Ennis. Episode 7 - Elsa develops an interest in Sam. Episode 8 - Elsa falls madly in love with Sam, marries him, and is ready to leave her family behind for life as a Comanche. Perhaps the Ennis or the Sam storylines would be fine on their own, but to put both of them within a span of 4 episodes is laughable. It cheapens Elsa’s character, reduces her to being a naive boy crazy teenager, and it cheapens the overall story which we mostly see through her eyes. If both of these love interests were important, they should’ve been separated by at least a season.
  19. After everything went nuclear the last 1.5 episodes, this episode felt relatively tame by Euphoria standards. I wonder if something is going to happen between Ali and Rue’s mom. I would think Ali is above that, but Rue’s mom was pretty dolled up for dinner and there were a couple of looks between them. That would probably be devastating for Rue.
  20. Agreed. I can sort of understand someone not liking Station Eleven, but then I would assume that same person didn’t like The Leftovers, and I would assume that person quite possibly enjoys shows like Ozark and Yellowstone, which means we have dissimilar TV tastes. To each his own.
  21. No, they did not. The refs mostly let them play, aside from 2 bad calls, each of which resulted in a TD for each team.
  22. Seems like leaking intel about a Wednesday invasion would be a good way to catch your enemy by surprise with a Monday or Tuesday invasion. Set them up thinking they have 1-2 more days than they actually do.
  23. We came pretty close to visiting Corsica last year but chose Croatia instead. These 2 episodes helped us realize that Corsica should be next.
