There have been a lot of good teams this season but Alyssa and Josiah are my favorite in quite a while. They really know how to have fun together and also support each other when it gets tough. They are easy to root for, but I’d honestly be happy with anyone except Jonathan.

Jonathan continues to outdo his own awfulness. He got bested in jousting but no way would he accept any blame for slowing them down. Instead, he made Ana take 5 cheeses to his 4 and then blamed her for getting the last one wrong. He griped at her climbing the stairs. While she got directions from strangers, he complained about her to the cameras. She was driving and navigating while he sat in the back seat criticizing her. Then in the car he said “Lord give me patience with this woman.” Pretty telling pattern of chronic abuse when she accepted blame at the finish line and then repeated Jonathan’s unwarranted criticism back to Phil. If he’s like this in front of cameras, it’s scary to think about their home life. She should leave him again, for good this time.

Well the bald chick became incapacitated fairly quickly, so maybe the scout team started to transform before they understood what was happening and had any ability to kill themselves. My only gripe is the scenes when Ellie and Dina are walking down the middle of the street in broad daylight having a conversation at normal volume. At least stick to the sides of the buildings and speak a little more quietly. In fairness though, this happened a little bit with Joel in season one as well.

I think the pacing is fine. We have 2 episodes left in the season to maybe find and kill Abby and maybe resolve some of the WLF/Scars situation. A couple episodes ago, people were complaining that Ellie and Dina got to Seattle too fast. It can’t suddenly be too slow. Although, knowing now that there were only 2 games and that TLOU2 will span seasons 2 and 3, most likely we don’t get resolution to some of this. I’m hoping that at least Abby gets killed because she isn’t a very exciting big bad. Dispense of her and then set up a standoff with Jeffrey Wright and separately the smart zombies.

So about 6 months from now when the tariffs have been nothing but a failure, he will be able to attack Bessent for being a FOOL, similar to Powell. Textbook Trump.

TWD was never very good to begin with. People watched it because TV series were starting to have a breakout moment, the zombie genre had not been done in TV yet, and AMC had earned some respect from MM and BB. But it basically sucked from the start. Zombie fighting was central to the show because the human characters were generic and boring. TLOU was very good in season 1, and I think Craig Mazin did well when he deviated from the source material - see: S1E3 One Good Day. Neil Druckmann has also been a solid director. It exists in a world with zombies that sometimes create problems, but tries to be much more focused on human character development and interactions. Everyone who heard anything about the games has probably heard that games 2-3 were not as well received as game 1. Having now seen the death of Joel, I think most of us can understand why. I’ve also heard some reviews that the story remained very good, so hopefully that will be the case for the remainder of the TV series. So despite sharing a genre, I don’t think the comparisons between TWD and TLOU are fair. The former was a sloppy show with bad acting that meandered for 11 seasons (seriously?!) with no clear direction and lots of gotcha bullshit moments. The latter is a compact story based on specific source material that is scheduled for 3 seasons, with overall good acting and production value, currently in a season 2 transition period after losing one main character.

You’re more optimistic than I am.

That’s not even what Proverbs 16:9 says. I was curious because that shit sounds like a stupid cop-out for anything. What it actually says is this: “A man's heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.” - KJV Or if you prefer: “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” -NIV I’m not sure how you get from that to that bullshit cowboy meme post, but if someone is a Christian, perhaps they shouldn’t post memes with a scripture reference and quotations as if to suggest that is the exact word of god, when that is not at all what the Bible says.

America's Foreign Policy & Other Shit Going On Around the World thread

Mark Carney meeting with Trump tomorrow. Pretty tough position for Carney to be in after what happened with Zelensky, but hopefully he stands strong for Canada. -
Agreed, because when I vote for a president and think about the qualities I want in a leader of our country, what is really important to me is a guy who can spew a bunch of ridiculous bullshit online to troll people who are different than me. I know we ban trolls here for being trolls, but trolling from the Oval Office is a actually great quality to have in the leader of the free world.

So foreign movies are getting a 100% tariff apparently. Lots of questions. Will that only apply to foreign film studios and the movies they produce, or will it also apply to American studios that film outside the U.S.? For instance, lots of American stuff is filmed in Canada (our trade enemy). What percentage of the film needs to be filmed domestically to avoid a tariff? What about TV series? What about streaming platforms? Assume for a second that TV series are included, and then take a series like Carême (a French series) on Apple+, how does that get tariffed? Perhaps they are exempt due to purchasing the series ahead of the tariff. Are there royalties or something similar involved? Does that suddenly incur a 100% tariff? Maybe it’s all just a bunch of bullshit that never gets paid.

I liked it. The guitar scene was not my favorite but the episode as a whole was good IMO. Got some backstory on FEDRA and the WLF, introduced Isaac, our main characters had a run-in with WLF and a zombie scare, Ellie revealed her immunity, Dina revealed she is pregnant as predicted, and they hooked up. A little action, a little drama, a new bad guy, plot moved forward.

The point of the tariffs is to stop fentanyl coming in from Canada and we’ve already saved millions of lives. And what fentanyl does get through, while unfortunate, the drug traffickers will pay big beautiful tariffs that will eventually eliminate income taxes.

I started this tonight and had to turn it off after 15 minutes because it felt like I was back in the ER in residency. Probably a good thing as far as accuracy of the show goes, but I didn’t want to relive those days. Rounding on patients and worrying about labs when I’m at home on my couch? No thanks. Y’all enjoy.

Ellie is 14 in the game and Rage thought she was hot, but he’s disappointed that Bella Ramsey doesn’t play an equally hot 14 year old on TV and he’s having trouble reconciling that.

Elon Musk: Nazi traitor piece of shit [Confirmed]

Ordering yourself a badge on Etsy that has crooked lettering and says 69420 is something a 13 year old would do when he isn’t yet aware what defines being cool in this world. -
I think I watched all of them but I agree with this take.

I’m not sure the taxi was even a benefit to them. Seemed like the distances were pretty short and one time they got stuck looking for a taxi. Pretty dirty of Holden and Hahn to agree to work with the girls, then secretly switch to working with the guys. I kinda hope that karma catches up with them.

It seemed like the trip went quickly but I just assumed there was a lot of mundane travel time that wasn’t worthy of being on screen. They said something about staying off the main roads to avoid conflict so I think we can infer that their plan worked. The first season had a 20 year time jump followed by a 3 month time jump. The first season skipped past a lot of Joel and Ellie’s trek across middle America. This season had a 5 year time jump followed by a 3 month time jump. I think it’s okay to skip through Ellie and Dina’s trek across the northwest. There’s apparently a lot of empty space out there with no raiders or zombies.

I enjoyed that episode. There wasn’t much action, but the plot is moving forward and many of the scenes were beautifully shot. I think it was a good follow up to the last episode which was action packed Dina is a great addition so far and more than just a token pretty face. She can’t replace Joel, probably no one can, but her personality complements Ellie well. She has a strong voice, she’s intelligent, and she has a more positive vibe to offset Ellie’s moodiness and cynicism. In only 3 episodes, they’ve given me a new character to be invested in and care about. I predict that Tommy and Jesse will set out after them once they learn they are gone. There will come a point where the girls are backed into a corner and the guys will show up to help.

It was one of their earlier series when Apple+ was just getting off the ground. People who subscribed talked about it quite a bit at the time, but like any show that’s >2 years old, it gets overlooked in favor of newer stuff.

He was pretty outnumbered and unarmed, similar to when the guys on horseback surrounded them. Perhaps he’s a better fighter, but it was 5v1 and they had guns and were threatening to hurt Dina. Joel would rather sacrifice himself than risk harm to a young woman, considering his daughter situation. Still disappointing to see him go out like that, but perhaps that’s the nature of the apocalypse. Not every hero gets a glorious death from a bloater or psycho raider. Sometimes you survive the zombie outbreak and later get killed by a vindictive 25 year old with questionable fighting and survival skills. A lot of apocalypse survival probably comes down to good or bad luck.

Also, rage and helo are predictably pathetic in this thread. Rage with his incel whining about a teenage girl based on a video game not being hot enough for him. Helo managing to always be wrong about everything which is a rare talent. I also played the game and I think Bella Ramsey is doing a fine job as Ellie. There are Tomb Raider games and movies if you are having trouble getting yourself off.

Just watched the first 2 episodes and I was not prepared to watch Joel die tonight. I did not even consider that a possibility as Abby was beating him. What a gut punch. Agree that it was disappointing for Joel to die at the hands of Abby after all that he had been through, without even a fight. She and her crew feel like they stumbled out of the wrong script and production set. My wife and I commented multiple times during the episode that it felt GoT-esque. Interesting that it resulted in the death of one of the 2 main characters. Feels a lot like Ned Stark. One of my favorite parts of season 1 was the relationship that developed between Joel and Ellie. That’s gone now and I’m disappointed by that, but I agree with mdmost that the show has earned credibility and I still want to see what direction they take it. Much like episode 3 of season 1, this upcoming week seems like a good opportunity for a flashback episode that centers on another character (Dina, please) to help build the audience attention and fill the void. Because otherwise, Tommy is the next biggest character and he’s the Diet Coke version of Joel, which is boring.
