  1. Salvor reminds me of Bobbie Draper from The Expanse but I like the latter much better. I just can’t get into Salvor’s character. Not sure if it’s the actor or the writing or a little bit of both.
  2. He presumably also wrote the line “skinny margarita with Tito’s.”
  3. The show has always been ridiculous. The Dutton crew kills whoever they want and leaves bodies all over Montana and law enforcement never makes an appearance. They made Kayce a livestock agent to basically give him a license to kill in broad daylight without anyone ever investigating anything. I would be curious to know what the actual body count is throughout the show. It’s like the 1920s Chicago mob but in rural Montana in 2021. In real life the feds would be all over this.
  4. I tend to agree, but there needs to be heavy direct involvement from the governments worldwide. I personally don’t see a path forward without nuclear. We have a goal of eliminating coal and reducing/eliminating natural gas, and those energy sources can’t be replaced entirely with wind, solar, and hydroelectric. Our energy requirements are significantly increasing worldwide and certain places (Texas!) can’t even reliably supply power in extreme cold or hot conditions.
  5. We sometimes grind up Beyond Meat or Impossible Burger in a pan and add olive oil and season it like taco meat. Then we make tacos with our preferred fixings and it tastes like a fairly normal taco once it’s loaded up. I personally think Impossible Burger tastes better but it has soy so you would need to use Beyond Meat instead.
  6. You clearly have background experience in this area and I appreciate your input but I’m not sure I fully understand or agree with your position. Rolls-Royce and the UK government are apparently pursuing this. China has some kind of commercial SMR in the works. The U.S. DOE has resources dedicated to SMR R&D. These aren’t fringe companies or organizations. Maybe the future of SMRs as a viable source of energy is yet to be determined, but it seems like there is at least a debate to be had and some major global players feel like it’s worth investing in. I don’t understand labeling the entire idea as bullshit that will never work. Your main objections appear to be financial and security. Both of those problems seem more solvable than problems of physics and science that currently limit other technologies. Financial limitations for any new energy source have to be considered relative to the finances of disaster control from sticking with the status quo, as well as the investments and operating expenses of every other emerging energy technology. None of our current options are expected to be cheap.
  7. Are you suggesting that SMRs won't work or that something specific about the Rolls-Royce plan seems unlikely to work? There seems to be a ton of research in SMRs as a potential nuclear option for the future. As far as your objections to it, those seem to be financial and logistical problems, which are solvable. I'm not sure I understand your point about submarines being on an unlimited budget. Their budget is actually limited, and their budget seems miniscule compared to the amount of money that is spent on energy.
  8. You just described everything that was at one point fun or cool in life.
  9. For what, exactly? At least 8 people died at a concert and the police chief is thanking the concert promoter? Did he think he was giving an award acceptance speech?
  10. The Leftovers has many incredible music moments, not to mention the powerful theme music that was used at critical points. If I had to pick one though, it would be Kevin singing Homeward Bound in the S2 finale.
  11. The Watchmen S1E5 had several great versions of Careless Whisper mixed throughout.
  12. It started a little slow for me but just finished episode 5 and it’s pulled me in more. I think a hard part for me is that each episode doesn’t necessarily show every story or timeline. I sort of understand why that’s happening from a storytelling perspective, but as a viewer unfamiliar with the worlds and characters, it makes it a little harder to follow in the early stages and to become invested. After episode 5, I feel like we are finally getting momentum in a couple of stories.
  13. I thought that was true for the bonus offers but not the cards. Why would Chase want to limit their customers to the lower tier card and risk losing people to competitors like Amex Plat?
  14. No and I’m not applying for a signup bonus.
  15. I had the CSR for 4 years and canceled last year before my AF was due, partly because of the AF increase and partly because I wanted to get 85,000 UR bonus points from a CSP offer. I’ve had the CSP just under a year now and I’d like to go back to the CSR. When I subtract out the $300 travel credit and $120 Peloton credit, the remaining AF is only $130 which I think is worth it for increased earning on travel, dining, and Peloton, increased value of UR points, and the Global Entry credit which I’ll need to renew soon. Problem is, Chase won’t let me switch back right now. They won’t tell me why or when it might be available again, but they said I can call again at some arbitrary point in the future and try again. I’m not asking for a new signup bonus, just want to pay the higher AF for the card with better perks. Anyone know how to get around this or do I just have to pester them monthly?
  16. Congrats Braves. Hell of a postseason for you guys and most of baseball appreciates what you’ve done.
  17. Just finished this. Agree with what many here have said. It was entertaining in parts but way overhyped for the quality of the show. I watched the English dubbed version. Perhaps I should’ve watched the subtitled version because the dubbed voices were terrible and that distracted me throughout the show. I didn’t realize there were 2 versions until I was a few episodes in and then I didn’t care enough to switch. The characters were across the board terrible. The main guy was a lifetime deadbeat with no job, a gambling addiction, a bad father, a bad son, and he brought no respectable skills to the Squid Game. I didn’t find him sympathetic in any way, which made it hard to care if he lived or died, which meant I was apathetic to the outcome of the show. They could’ve at least given him a backstory that showed him to be some kind of a secret badass that just got some bad breaks in life to hit rock bottom, but no, he just sucked as a person. Most of the other characters were one dimensional cliches, especially the meathead bad guy and the annoying girl that chased him around. Are those types of characters common in Korean film/television? Maybe something is getting lost in translation for me there. The plot was pretty predictable each step of the way. The final game was basically just a knife fight which was completely lame to end on, especially when Squid Game is the namesake of the show and it doesn’t even get played. The twists with the cop’s brother and the old man weren’t very surprising, or rather they just didn’t pack much of a punch because it was hard to care about any individual character. Lots of plot inconsistencies and agree that the doctor organ harvesting made no sense within the context of the show. Also, if clause 3 allowed a majority of players to vote to call off the games at any given time, then why didn’t anyone ever try to invoke that in the middle of the series? You would think during the marble episode the husband/wife or the 2 Korean girls or the main guy would all be lobbying the group for that way out. Or during the glass bridge episode players 1-13 would all realize their odds of survival were impossibly low and vote for the game to end. Stupid to ignore that rule and then use it again in the final episode. I don’t necessarily regret watching, but can’t say I loved it and I probably wouldn’t recommend it to anyone else.
  18. Lol at Astros fans getting really sensitive in this thread. Newsflash: Every baseball fan outside of Houston is rooting against you. You have your own Astros thread where you go crazy over Altuve HRs and melt down over Altuve Ks, then you come to this thread and act surprised that every non-Astros poster is cheering for the Braves. Enjoy 2017*.
  19. I really want Sark to be successful here because A) I want Texas to be good again and B) I like an underdog comeback story. It doesn't look great so far. His career at Texas may have peaked at halftime at the RRSO. Maybe it's better for Texas and OU to stay in the B12 through 2024 so we can get the next guy in here before the SEC move. I'm still rooting for him to turn it around but this is a pretty rough start and definitely not an upgrade from Herman so far.
  20. Lived about a mile from there during college. Loved sitting out there with a beer when the weather was nice. Sad to hear it's closing.
  21. I’ll be there in early December as well. It’s a great time to go because the island is nice and green, great weather, and it’s before high season officially starts. The Carl Gustaf seems like a great hotel. I haven’t stayed there but I have eaten dinner twice at their restaurant (Fouquet’s) since they reopened the hotel and it’s phenomenal. The hotel decor is great and the views of Gustavia are amazing too. Rent a car. Get something small like a Mini Cooper because the roads are narrow and parking spaces are small. You will want the car to explore during the day, and yes, driving in St. Barth can be fun. From your hotel you can walk to many restaurants around Gustavia - Bonito, Isola, Shellona, Bagatelle, plus all the more casual places in town. If you are uncomfortable driving at night, your hotel can easily get you a taxi for dinner to anywhere you can’t walk. I recommend dinner reservations at most places. Email your concierge about a week in advance and they should be able to help, or ask us here. Lunch reservations aren’t as important unless you want a weekend table at a popular beach club like Nikki or Gypsea. PM me if you have any specific questions.
  22. Sucks to lose. I had everything lined up to attend games 3-4 next weekend. Congrats to Atlanta fans. Y’all played a great series. Freddie Freeman looks like a bible salesman. Please beat the cheaters.
  23. What a terrible story. On the one hand, it was an accident. On the other hand, Alec Baldwin was holding a gun when it fired and killed someone. Which means he was pointing the gun at someone and very likely pulled the trigger, thinking it was safe. So it was an accident but it was the result of complete stupidity. If that happened to an average person at home, not a celebrity on a movie set, wouldn’t they be charged with involuntary manslaughter?
  24. I’m intrigued by the Vegas Loop concept. From some quick internet searches, it seems the LVCC loop is a single car lane wide and has a fleet of ~65 Teslas that are not autonomous. Each car currently has a human driver which limits max passenger occupancy to 4 people. So that’s ~260 total people max on a 1.7 mile loop that takes 3 minutes to transit. How much capacity will the Vegas Loop have if it’s built the same way? Suppose it ends up being 10 miles total and 350 Teslas at a time. That’s still only a maximum of 1400 people (and that assumes every car is completely full which obviously won’t be the case) which would be very low for certain situations, like the end of a Raiders game or any other major event. I would be interested to see it happen, but I hope it ends up being a practical alternative to current transportation methods and not just a novelty theme park ride.
