  1. I was lukewarm on this episode until the Holding Out for a Hero scene towards the end. Bravo, Lexi.
  2. Watched this last night, mainly because it got a ton of Oscar nominations. Thought it was pretty meh. Felt like maybe it just didn’t resonate with me and everyone else would be praising it for reasons unbeknownst to me. The comments here seems like it’s universally underwhelming. The setting was beautiful but those mountains clearly were not in Montana and that was distracting to me. It was filmed in New Zealand so that makes sense, but I get annoyed when movies pick a filming location that is obviously different from the story’s setting. I was less impressed with Benedict Cumberbatch than some of you were. It felt like he was playing Christian Bale playing an angry cowboy. Seemed pretty one dimensional and he’s had better work. Not Oscar worthy IMO. Macbeth or French Dispatch should’ve received Best Picture nominations over this.
  3. They are terrible and I’m already preparing myself for the possibility that they win this through multiple strokes of bad luck affecting the other teams.
  4. Episode 5 - Elsa falls madly in love with Ennis and ready to have his baby but then Ennis died. Episode 6 - Elsa mourns Ennis. Episode 7 - Elsa develops an interest in Sam. Episode 8 - Elsa falls madly in love with Sam, marries him, and is ready to leave her family behind for life as a Comanche. Perhaps the Ennis or the Sam storylines would be fine on their own, but to put both of them within a span of 4 episodes is laughable. It cheapens Elsa’s character, reduces her to being a naive boy crazy teenager, and it cheapens the overall story which we mostly see through her eyes. If both of these love interests were important, they should’ve been separated by at least a season.
  5. After everything went nuclear the last 1.5 episodes, this episode felt relatively tame by Euphoria standards. I wonder if something is going to happen between Ali and Rue’s mom. I would think Ali is above that, but Rue’s mom was pretty dolled up for dinner and there were a couple of looks between them. That would probably be devastating for Rue.
  6. Agreed. I can sort of understand someone not liking Station Eleven, but then I would assume that same person didn’t like The Leftovers, and I would assume that person quite possibly enjoys shows like Ozark and Yellowstone, which means we have dissimilar TV tastes. To each his own.
  7. No, they did not. The refs mostly let them play, aside from 2 bad calls, each of which resulted in a TD for each team.
  8. Seems like leaking intel about a Wednesday invasion would be a good way to catch your enemy by surprise with a Monday or Tuesday invasion. Set them up thinking they have 1-2 more days than they actually do.
  9. We came pretty close to visiting Corsica last year but chose Croatia instead. These 2 episodes helped us realize that Corsica should be next.
  10. Agreed, especially during COVID. I think any place that has sit down service with actual waitstaff is going to struggle with a group of 27 kids and 3 coaches. You could call around a few places and check. Maybe a place like Whole Foods or Central Market would be good because you can order from a counter and then sit wherever. Or perhaps one of the BBQ joints (Panther City, Dayne’s, etc) or the original Kindcaid’s for burgers.
  11. Thankfully my wife never likes to make a fuss about Valentine’s Day, but I also don’t want to inadvertently be the guy that ignores her needs, so I usually double check with her in advance. Me last night: Valentine’s is coming up. Do you want to plan something or do gifts? Wife: No that’s stupid. We go on nice dates all the time already. Me: Ok just checking. Wife: I let you know when I want stuff. Me: Cool.
  12. How many people and what age range are the kids? Agree that Press Cafe is good, but not if you plan to show up with a full youth soccer team with 12 players plus coaches and parents. They aren’t really built to handle large groups.
  13. Watched it last week and didn’t really care for it. Too long and the payoff was a fairly predictable twist.
  14. Just finished this. I liked the show for its overall tone, acting, direction. The last 3 episodes were crazy intense. Wish they would’ve found a way to get Bunny and Rebecca on screen in the finale because they both disappeared towards the end. Nichole Galicia is a great looking woman. I swear I saw her coming out of Shinsei in Dallas last week but I have no way to verify that. The premise of the show is the only thing holding me back and puts it in “liked it but didn’t love it” territory. Mike works all sides to maintain peaceful relations between cops, prison guards, and inmates. Everyone is totally cool with that and they often act as if they can’t function without him. Not sure he’s even very good at that role because shit steadily escalates throughout the show, and in the finale where he’s sent in to be the negotiator, it results in most people dying and him ducking for cover. Also, I don’t see how he brings in any money or pays Rebecca or the office rent, because hardly anyone shows up in his waiting room asking for favors they will actually pay for. But if you overlook the ridiculous premise and just accept it as a show about tense relations between law enforcement and criminals, it’s fairly entertaining.
  15. Elsa’s narration feels like a direct copy of Dolores from Westworld. Similar accent and everything.
  16. Hell yeah!
  17. Not sure how I feel about the tornado part. On the one hand, I enjoyed the thunderstorm moving in and even the extreme scenario of a tornado. Those are real threats that pioneers would’ve faced in a place where they were horribly exposed, giving me an “oh shit, this isn’t good” feeling as a viewer. On the other hand, the tornado was powerful enough to wreck their wagons, but no people were injured. And not only did the sky immediately turn sunny and clear afterwards, but there was not a drop of rain to be seen. The people were perfectly dry and the grass was dry. It was like nothing ever happened, except the wagon damage.
  18. By your logic, maybe we should ask ourselves why 70% of NFL players are black. That isn’t really fair if black people are only 12% of the U.S. population. By that logic, one might conclude there have been unfair hiring practices at the level of the NFL draft. Perhaps the next NFL draft should be mandated to be 59% white, 19% Hispanic and Latino, 12% black, 6% Asian, and then make up the remainder with Native Americans and Pacific Islanders. To keep it fair and all. Disclaimer: I don’t really believe what I just posted, but I’m simply pointing out that mandating hiring practices to match a specific racial demographic that is already significantly different from the general population seems absurd.
  19. I wonder how much Charlie paid for his horse. Hopefully he will tell us next episode.
  20. I use a Chemex daily and a Capresso burr grinder. The coffee quality is superb. I don’t think it’s much work because I’m already hovering around the kitchen making myself breakfast, so it’s easy to pour water between whatever else I’m doing. For people who don’t make breakfast, I could see it being a hassle. I’ve considered getting an automatic coffee maker but it would need to basically do everything (grind beans and brew coffee) without compromising flavor. There aren’t many options for that. Jura coffee machines interest me. I like that it can grind the beans, brew the coffee, set the intensity level, control the water temperature, and brew espresso on days when I want espresso. They are in the neighborhood of $3,000 which is why I haven’t pulled the trigger yet.
  21. That map isn’t accurate from what we’ve seen in the show. At the beginning of episode 3 (River), they are looking at a river discussing what to do. I don’t think we were told specifically which river it was, but there were some clues it was the Red. Shea wanted to go east to the Denison ferry which is on the Red. He argued that if they went west, they would have to cross the Brazos. The way it was said strongly suggested they weren’t looking at the Brazos as the conversation was happening. So the Reddit map you posted doesn’t show them going to the Red in that episode. Secondly, at the beginning of episode 5, Elsa says in her narration they “crossed the main stem of the Brazos, just north of the Clear Fork.” The Clear Fork is that southernmost fork of the Brazos, which I highlighted in yellow below. Just north of that would be about where I added the red arrow to the Reddit map, which again, puts them going the wrong direction. The black dashed line that was originally marked on the map is not crossing the main stem of the Brazos, which is clearly contradictory to specific details provided by the show.
  22. Great job Akbar. Constantly criticize your wife for being too slow, but she completed her roadblocks in a reasonable time and you were sloooow on your own roadblock to the point of getting eliminated. Dusty was intense this episode. I don’t have anything against them but I’d kinda like to see them make a fatal mistake and get eliminated because his meltdown will be epic. Raquel brought the heat in this leg. I’m surprised by how much I like Lulu/Lala and Penn/Kim. Both teams are enjoyable to watch, mostly positive attitudes, good racers.
  23. I rewatched season 1 since it had been so long. There was a lot I didn’t remember, especially the part about Maddie having the DVD of Cal and Jules. I thought that would become a huge plot point, but now that Cal has outed himself, the only remaining concern is that Jules is a minor.
  24. What an epic meltdown from Cal. That scene was incredibly awkward. “Dad, can you please put away your dick?” Rue is hard to watch right now. Pulling for her but she is pretty far gone. Kinda fucked up for Elliot and Jewels to suggest a beer run, dangle her addiction in front of her, and then get angry when she joins them in drinking.
