  1. That sucks that you still have to get tested even if you are vaccinated. Seems like that should be an acceptable exemption just like actual COVID infection is acceptable.
  2. I tried to put this on in the background yesterday. Made it about 10 minutes and realized it wasn’t worthy of being on in the background. That’s pretty damn bad. Not that I had high expectations or anything, but the first one was alright and there haven’t been any good new movies lately, so I was hoping it would at least be a decent popcorn flick. That was clearly too much to ask.
  3. It seems like they messed up the clock there. The play before the timeout Rivers threw to Pittman on the left and Pittman went out of bounds with 19-20 seconds left. Clock should’ve stopped. The clock started running again when the ball was set (although it should’ve remained stopped?), down to 14 seconds when Rivers snapped the ball for the play that was negated by the Buffalo timeout. After the timeout, Indy had 14 seconds on the clock. Seems like it should’ve been 19 seconds unless I’m missing something.
  4. I’m very sorry for your loss. I can’t imagine what you are feeling and I don’t know what else can possibly be said. I hope your family finds comfort and strength in each other.
  5. The problem I see with that is that there is a huge amount of variation between the types of facilities that can administer it and the regions in which they are located. A uniform process might introduce standards and protocols that make logistical sense for a hospital but not a private clinic or CVS. Or perhaps it works at an HEB in Austin but not an HEBin Big Spring. That could potentially deter facilities that are otherwise interested in providing it due to administrative or logistical barriers. I lean more in the direction of giving the facilities more autonomy to determine how they feel they can be most effective. They know their own capabilities, strengths, and weaknesses more than a government committee in another city or state. Maybe it will look sluggish and inefficient in places, but hopefully the lower degree of oversight will make it extremely easy to become a vaccine provider and reach a broader degree of the population faster.
  6. I can’t remember if it’s been discussed here, but Maple Branch Brewery is a nice little spot. Lots of beers on tap and they have a big indoor and outdoor space. People stay pretty spread out and it feels reasonably safe from a Covid standpoint. They are located in the Foundry District, a few blocks behind the W 7th Target.
  7. Got the Moderna vaccine first shot this morning. That felt pretty damn good.
  8. I went over to Placerville once to ride horses with Roudy after he moved out there. Good guy, hope he’s still getting around ok. I’ll be back in Telluride in 5 weeks for skiing. Looks like the snow is finally starting to fall and I’ll be fully vaccinated by then so things are hopefully looking up. (fingers crossed) I’ve been there in all 4 seasons and it’s a fantastic little corner of the world. Almost took a job in Montrose a few years back just to have Telluride in my backyard. I still kick myself sometimes over that one, especially when I’m up there and see how gorgeous it is. Sitting at the top of lift 9 and marveling at the beauty of the canyon is a religious experience for me. Maybe I’ll retire there one day.
  9. What about the NM mandatory 14 day quarantine order? Seems like that eliminates NM as a ski destination for anyone except NM residents.
  10. We’re going to Purgatory in January and Telluride in February, staying in an Airbnb both times with more than one household. Neither place has ever mentioned a one household restriction and I don’t see anything online so hopefully that doesn’t become an issue.
  11. I don’t see anything online that skiing is shut down in Breck. Details here?
  12. Maybe some of us are not dead on the inside? I’m pretty sure CTJ hates everything and he even posted to say he likes this movie.
  13. I also found out last night they did a reunion short film sequel in 2017. It’s called Red Nose Day Actually and was made to support a fundraiser. It’s about 15 minutes long and you can stream online for free.
  14. So many great scenes but how can anyone not like the scene of Sam running through the airport to catch Joanna?
  15. We watch it every year around this time. Great Christmas movie, great movie overall. Let’s do it. Let’s go get the shit kicked out of us by love.
  16. Agreed on both counts. Terrible season, very little competition or legs that felt close at the end, challenges were weak, alliance sucked, ending was lame.
  17. For many healthy people, the decision to get a vaccine holds a greater benefit to the population as a whole than it does to the individual. In some cases, the risk of contracting the actual disease or becoming severely ill from the disease may be relatively low, so the perceived risk/benefit of vaccination may not seem to be in the individual’s favor. This is a yearly problem with the flu vaccine. Even though I am young and healthy, I personally think the risks and the unknowns of the COVID vaccine are lower than the risks and the unknowns of COVID infection. Regardless, I am a physician who works directly with elderly and high risk patients on a daily basis, so the individual risk of vaccination is low enough for me than I am willing to accept that risk for the added protection of the patients I come in contact with. I would hope that most other healthcare providers would have a similar mindset for the sake of not only protecting our patients, but also leading the way towards vaccination of the greater population and eventually reaching heard immunity.
  18. I’m a MD and most of the physicians and nurses I know seem to want it. I don’t know who your pharmacist buddy is or where he practices or what types of MDs he hangs around, but I don’t think most MDs are planning to wait 6 months to decide. There have been countless surveys issued to healthcare workers in the past week so I’m not sure what the official data shows nationwide.
  19. I also watched it over the weekend and thought it was shit. The movie was a jumbled mess of cliché assassin storylines with a very shallow plot, combined with family drama that seemed like it would be more at place in a Hallmark movie. The acting was terrible, even felt like Chastain had mailed it in for a paycheck, but maybe she just had terrible dialogue to work with.
  20. Fair enough. I think the screen size and sound quality make the theater experience better for big action movies and that justifies the cost for me. Plus, I watch TV at home almost every weeknight, so if a good movie gets released, I’m ok leaving the house to go see it. I don’t eat at the theater so concessions for me equals beer or wine, which is marked up but not any more than an average bar or restaurant.
  21. I disagree. They already penalize teams for helping their own partner during a Roadblock so it would be somewhat the same just extended to other teams for all challenges. I’m not entirely against all cooperation, mainly opposed to teams blatantly telling each other the final answers. They could draw a line somewhere in there. For instance: Telling another team to put the countries in the order they heard the songs in the race - fair game and not a penalty Telling another team the exact 4 countries and their order - 30 minute penalty
  22. Which is pretty cheap for 2-3 hours of entertainment outside your home. You can’t go to a live sporting event, concert, golf, bowling, etc. for less than that. I’m not sure the cost of going to the theaters is a valid criticism. Of course it’s more expensive than watching the same movie at home, but that could be said about almost everything.
  23. At the start of this leg I thought they had instituted the race around Manila format to eliminate the benefits of the alliance, only to have the leg end in a challenge that clearly benefits an alliance. I didn’t care for Gary and DeAngelo but what a shitty way to get eliminated. None of the 4 teams knew the answer but a group of 3 can systematically do process of elimination faster than a single team can. Then again, watching DeAngelo’s bitter exit statements made me suddenly care less all the way around. Going back to the start of this season, I, like many others, felt this season was unusually full of likable teams. The alliance has gradually stripped that away to where I don’t particularly like any of them, or rather, I hate the way the final 3 teams reached this position and wish they would all lose. The only thing that could make this season worse is if we find out these 3 teams have agreed to a 40/30/30 split of the prize money. The Amazing Race could easily eliminate or minimize alliances. Simply institute a 30 minute penalty for telling another team the answer to a mental task. It might not be perfect in all situations, but I think the fear of a penalty would quickly discourage teams from helping each other to any significant degree.
  24. Are you 14 years old?
  25. Landed again today because... why not? We normally do June trips but we had a travel itch and we think this is a relatively safe travel destination during the pandemic. Testing required for entry and once you get here almost everything is outdoors or open air. Had a great dinner at Santa Fe to kick things off. Somehow we had never been there but it lived up to its reputation. We have a ridiculous lineup of meals to come - Tamarin, Isola, Orega, Bonito - just to name a few. Places that would each be the star restaurant in our hometown. Staying at Christoper in Pointe Milou which I personally think has the best views on the island as the sun goes down.
