  1. Texags and large chunks of the south: This wouldn’t happen if we didn’t have mental health problems, people drifting away from God, black people, and gang violence! Also Texags: Why wasn’t anyone upset when Trump got shot? When are they going to lock up the shooter’s dad? Other countries with mental health problems, non-Christians, and minorities: Our kids are safe.
  2. I hate this country sometimes. In what other developed nation are school shootings a fact of life? Gee, if only there was a solution.
  3. It felt like someone from The Bear wrote that episode. There were moments I felt genuinely sad for Rishi and moments I hated him and everything in between.
  4. I got similar. 2 comped nights in the future plus it seems all my incidentals from this stay were comped. They were willing to refund my stay but since I paid with Chase points and not dollars, there was no good mechanism to refund those points. I feel like the solution was fair.
  5. That’s the frustrating thing. We’ve stayed at a variety of downtown hotels (Van Zandt, LINE, South Congress Hotel) and there are things we like about all of them, but our initial impression of Fairmont was that it was overall better and also the best option if we want to take our kid for a weekend. Now I’m conflicted. I hate to write them off over a disaster they didn’t cause, but I’m annoyed at their lack of response.
  6. Not sure yet. We checked out and I didn’t want to take it out entirely on the front desk girl because it’s not her fault and she looked tired. She offered to move us rooms but I said no to that. Since I booked through Chase, she said to go through them to request a refund. She put a note on our bill that we were leaving early and not to penalize us. Chase is usually pretty good about resolving problems, so we’ll see, but I’ll ask them for a full refund. She started to tell me about valet charges ($62/night) and I said I would rather not pay for that and she took it off without any pushback. She didn’t say anything about the food and drinks we charged at the pool, roughly $250 total but $100 was already comped in our stay. I’m not sure if that balance will get billed later or if their system is so messed up they don’t even know who charged what. My only concern is that the pool servers won’t get the tips that we left. Oh well.
  7. Room was roughly 80 degrees all night. Everyone is still using service elevators this morning which is slooow. We were originally planning to stay until tomorrow but we can’t deal with that any longer. We considered leaving yesterday but after drinking at the game and then dinner, we didn’t want to drive, so leaving was not an option and we hoped it would get worked out. Obviously not. I get that problems happen and no one can help that, but we’ve had zero communication from the hotel on this. They could at least send out an email to all guests explaining what happened, a timeline for fixing it, some kind of compensation or credit for a stay, etc. They’ve said nothing. I suppose we’ll check out and ask for a full comp of the room and all charges.
  8. We came to Austin for the game and it was a coin flip between here and Zaza. We ended up on Fairmont because our credit card offered a $100 resort credit and free breakfast. Friday was fine. Saturday is a fucking shit show. A water main broke around floor 7 and took out some power, wifi, elevators, and AC. We are on floor 30. Everyone has to use service elevators because the normal elevators are nonfunctional, so there’s a ~45 minute wait for service elevators. At one point, we took the stairs to our room on floor 30 because it was faster. We said fuck it and went to dinner and drinks, but now we’re back and our room is ~78F to sleep and can’t get any cooler. What’s the response here? Ask for everything to be comped? I don’t know what’s reasonable in this situation.
  9. Same. That probably beats WoB and I’ll try to make it to a couple this year.
  10. For a normal person and family, I don’t think think this is all that weird. Not my personal cup of tea, but I understand it. For OJ Simpson and his family, I expect at least one kid to get financial problems, sell their jewelry to a broker or memorabilia collector, then a couple of replicas get made and sold with fake COAs, then eventually someone loses the real jewelry in an underground poker game, then it ends up in a sad pawn shop next to a dead grandma’s wedding ring.
  11. Any thoughts on Duke’s in La Jolla? Or the aquarium up there?
  12. That should be on a TV ad on Fox News multiple times daily.
  13. With the comments about the Medal of Honor, you have to wonder if Trump is legitimately senile or if he is trying to throw the election. Spitting in the face of veterans? I know he makes awful statements every time he opens his mouth, but these guys are his supporters and it’s insane to obviously disrespect one of their highest honors.
  14. His face doesn’t move when he talks. It like he got his entire face over-Botoxed.
  15. I enjoyed the S3 premiere. There’s a lot going on right now.
  16. France and Paris knocked this one out of the park, from the opening ceremony until the very end. Perhaps my favorite overall Olympics. Bravo.
  17. Sydney is insanely fast. Just blew away the field and it seems like every time I watch her run she breaks her own WR.
  18. I just binged it and mostly enjoyed it. Thought the ending was a little bit sloppy and contrived, just for the sake of having a shocking twist. I would’ve liked it more if they closed out the series and left us wondering who the murderer was, similar to real life where you don’t always get all the answers. Ruth Negga did not bother me at all, so I’m surprised to see the hate on here. If she seemed like a cunt, it’s because her husband cheated on her, broke it off, then started up again, lied repeatedly, got his mistress pregnant, then had it blow up in public when he was charged with murder. How did y’all want Barbara to act? I hated Rusty and hated Tommy but if I had been on the jury, I would not have convicted. I don’t think the prosecution came anywhere close to meeting the “beyond a reasonable doubt” threshold for murder. My biggest unanswered question was Rusty’s phone’s metadata. Mya mentioned it in one episode, saying he was at Carolyn’s house from 10:00-11:00ish. I think the time stamp on the son’s photo established Rusty’s arrival time, but Rusty’s own phone established the time he returned home. Was that GPS or something else? Wouldn’t the phone’s metadata also show him leaving his home again that night, and if it was GPS data, it would show him returning to Carolyn’s house?
  19. I'm heading to San Diego in late August with my wife and our 19 month old daughter. It's our first time there and we'll be staying in an Airbnb house a couple blocks from the beach, near the junction of Mission Beach and Pacific Beach. We liked the idea of Coronado Island, but they don't allow short term rentals there, so it would've had to be a hotel, which meant sharing a room with the kiddo (no bueno) or paying significantly higher rates for a suite. The Airbnb option in Pacific Beach suited us better. We plan to visit the zoo and spend time at the beach. We would like to visit La Jolla and probably Coronado Island. We don't have any specific activities planned other than the zoo, but looking for recommendations. I would also appreciate some kid friendly dining spots around that area if anyone knows of anything. Basically prefer outdoor seating with good food, price is no concern, casual or upscale, just don't want to be crashing a quiet date night spot. Are Stone Brewing or Ballast Point Brewing worth visiting?
  20. I might wait and watch the series finale in 2028, around the time of the LA Olympics. I don’t know if the other episodes between now and then will be worth the time investment. Just tell me how it all ends.
  21. Went last week and it’s legit. Probably my new favorite burger in FW.
  22. You could summarize this entire season with this: -Rhaenyra has long conversations about who might be with her or against her -Daemon took a mental health holiday -Aegon and Aemond are against each other -Some new people can now ride dragons We spent 8+ hours to do all of that.
  23. So the highlights of this season finale were Daemon bending a knee and Alicent trying to make amends with Rhaenyra? Or maybe I’m expected to care about the Lannister guy?
  24. I like knowing that whenever I lose a thousand, Elon is losing hundreds of millions.
