  1. Sorry about your puts, I guess.
  2. Each August that passes down here has me more and more convinced I can't spend Summers for the rest of my life on the Gulf Coast. It obviously still gets hot pretty much anywhere in the country, but most places are hitting the part of the year where it starts getting pretty nice in the mornings and evenings. Shit, it's not like you have to go that far. Even in the Old South, the weather starts to drastically improve by this point of the Summer. Check the weather in Atlanta, Charleston, Nashville...etc.. right now. Highs in the low 90's, lows in the high 60's. Wife and I have definitely started talking more and more seriously about eventually (~10 years or so) selling our house in Houston and downsizing to a condo and then buying a place somewhere much more tolerable. Spend part of the year living and working here, but GTFO for pretty much all of June-September.
  3. Yep. I hopped in the pool this past Sunday evening for the first time in about 3 weeks. It was 91 degrees and not the least bit refreshing. First time all Summer that it's been like that. Caught some pop-up showers the last 3 afternoons here in Houston, but it looks like that well has run dry. Nothing better than a 20% chance any day in the 15-day forecast. Every day is basically 99/80 and sunny. Likely have at least 30 more hot, sweaty days to slog through before any hopes of even a moderate cool down. 8/1 through about 9/15 is easily my least favorite part of the year weather-wise.
  4. Can't wait for it to cool down. Too damn hot right now. Birria tacos on a cool, rainy day are a gift from heaven.
  5. Jobless claims come in light, retail sales for July surprised strongly to the upside (1% vs 0.4% estimate). Stonks to the moon.
  6. FWIW, as of today, Fangraphs playoff odds/projected records: Astros 88-74. 67% chance to win AL West, 77% chance to make playoffs Mariners 85-77. 32% chance to win AL West, 46% chance to make playoffs And for laughs: Rangers 77-75. 0.2% chance to win AL West, 0.6% chance to make playoffs.
  7. Hah. It's true.
  8. Headline CPI at 2.9% YOY. First time at 3.0% or below since March '21.
  9. Pretty accurate recap of the Trump interview last night:
  10. Walmart has 40 lb bags for $7.29. Academy store-brand corn is $7.99 for 40.
  11. The SCW guys define it as the "first day with an overnight temperature reading of 65 or below at IAH" Based on historical data (for Houston area), it typically occurs no earlier than 9/1 and no later than 10/15, with the average date being ~9/20.
  12. Blastfurnace looks to be on cruise control the rest of the month. Weather gods set the thermostat to 100 and sunny and then headed out on a long vacation.
  13. Dubon wanted to get home. GIDP facing a position player, lol.
  14. It's a Boston Massacre!
  15. Brother and I decided to take a quick trip up to our lease tomorrow morning, mostly for shits and giggles. Gonna clear out some brush and put a few sacks of corn in the feeders at the new stands we set up back in June, but otherwise just gonna drink beer, ride around in the UTV, and enjoy the countryside. Have a proper work weekend scheduled for mid-September where we'll head out with some of other guys and get everything else ready for the Fall and also do a little dove hunting since the watering hole actually has water for a change.
  16. Was starting to think I was gonna be the latest sufferer posting in this thread. Just got back from a long vacation on Tuesday, featuring several flights and train rides the last 2 weeks. Woke up fine yesterday and got a good workout in. On the way into work started dragging ass. Achy, fatigued, but pretty mild and powered through the day. Really started feeling puny on the drive home. Feverish, mild headache...etc.. Got home around 6:30, hopped on the upstairs couch and immediately passed the fuck out until about 10:30. Woke up drenched in sweat, chugged a bunch of water and then crawled into bed. Slept like a fucking rock the next 8 hours. Woke up around 6:30 this morning, very groggy, but otherwise fine. Still a little low energy this morning but all other symptoms have resided. Either I got lucky with mildest case of 'rona or it was something else entirely.
  17. Caratini GIDP with 2 on, 0 out was a killer. Meyers put good contact on the ball and would have been an easy sac fly, but don't mean shit with 2 outs.
  18. Hader will be coming in for the 9th quite taxed. Insurance run or 5 would be nice.
  19. Sunlight loss is starting to get a little more noticeable. Only 10 more days of sunset after 8 pm in Houston area. Today: Sunrise 6:45, Sunset 8:09 8/21: Sunrise 6:53, Sunset 7:55
  20. Spent the last 12 days in Europe. Don't think I experienced a temperature above 88 at any point. Just got back yesterday evening. Glad to see I got back just in time to catch the 3 hottest days of the entire Summer (thus far).
  21. Glad I stumbled on this thread over the weekend. Wife and I are leaving for a big Europe trip on Thursday and will be spending the 2nd half of the trip in Switzerland. Couple of nights in Lucerne and then a quick train trip out to Interlakken and/or Grindelwald for a bit. Last stop is Geneva for a day or two and then return flight home.
