  1. Woke up to "pretty good" rain chances around 50% in Houston today, but those have already petered out to around 30% or so. Tomorrow and Friday are our best shots at getting some legit storms, but even those are less ironclad than they were as of last night. 90%->65%. Latest NOAA expected precipitation for my neck of the woods is around 2.5 inches between today and Saturday night. I'm taking the under.
  2. Uh, no. Maybe for folks in the Panhandle or Far West Texas, but the DFW, Austin/SA and Houston surly contingent still have plenty of unpleasant days ahead. Still seeing plenty of highs in the mid-90's forecast through the end of the month and we haven't even sniffed a legit cool front yet ( i.e. 2-3 days in a row with lows of 65 or less). We're basically just now catching up to where temps should be in late August. 2022 and 2021 threads both lasted until early November. We're probably done seeing any triple digit scorchers, but, based on recent precedent we've got at least a half dozen stints ahead where it's 8-12 degrees above average for several days.
  3. WTI walking up the driveway, getting ready to knock on the door of $90 this morning.
  4. 82-62. Winning record secured. Most games over .500 all season. I think 92-70 would clinch a playoff spot and most likely be good enough to win the division. 94-68 would more or less be a guaranteed lock on our 6th AL West title in 7 years. Neither Seattle, Texas, nor Toronto currently projected to finish with more than 90 wins. No one else in the AL has even a faint hope of a wild card. Let's do 95-67.
  5. Hitting just .250 this month, but the OPS is up around .950 and has 15 RBI in 9 games.
  6. Abreu gonna somehow still end up with 90+ RBI despite a .240 AVG and OPS below .700
  7. Not until we get our first legit cool front and highs consistently stay 90 or less. Current forecast has us still hitting 95 almost every day of the week after next. That's a solid 5 degrees above average.
  8. It's noon and sunny in Houston and it's not punishingly hot outside. Baby steps.
  9. Houston area doesn't look like we'll get much of what anyone would consider a "cooldown," but today is the only day on the 15-day forecast with a triple digit temp although tomorrow may possibly hit 100. The following 2 weeks have an average daily forecast of roughly 94/74. Still a good 3-4 degrees warmer than average for the time of year, but not historically awful and breaks the streak where we've consistently been 8-10 degrees above average the past 40 days or so. It's better than nothing?
  10. Haven't y'all heard? It's summer in Texas, it's supposed to be hot, herp de derp.
  11. Flour tortilla = breakfast tacos, accompaniment to any kind of mexican breakfast, fajitas Corn tortilla = street tacos, enchiladas, tostadas, homemade tortilla chips
  12. Melissa Wilson, one of the Houston morning show hosts, posted a major thirst trap throwback pic this morning.
  13. Haven't seen any in the flesh yet, but there are plenty of signs at my lease that there are some very large hogs. Was out there exploring this past Saturday, getting more familiarized with which roads lead where. Walked down to the bone-dry "watering hole" and passed some relatively fresh hoof prints in the sand that were way too big to be a deer. Walked around to the somewhat cleared out area behind the pond and there were some rather large crap piles, also definitely not from a deer.
  14. Grabbing a burger for lunch at Tap Room. Just not sure I wanna sit in there for 3 hours.
  15. Have a guys trip coming up this weekend with a house rented on the SM River. Most of us are getting into town a couple of hours before we can check in to our rental. Those of you that live in the area, where's a good place for a bunch of 40 year old dudes to hang out on a Friday afternoon? I haven't lived there since I graduated 16 years ago and there are new bars and restaurants every time I pass through. Hardly recognize the place anymore.
  16. Started yesterday for us here in Houston. Leaving the office around 6:30 yesterday it was oppressively swampy, even inside my building's parking garage. Somehow it felt a little hotter and muggier when I went outside around 9:00 last night.
  17. The long-range forecasts seem to finally be reflecting a slight pattern shift next week, but nothing particularly dramatic, and not really anything that someone would consider a "cold front." Whatever makes it down to Texas looks like it'll have more significant effects on Panhandle and DFW area than Austin or Houston. Bunch of 95/74 days listed for Houston starting on 9/12, which, albeit an improvement, is still ~3 degrees above the average high and low for the the time of year. 7 days away is towards the outer limits of forecast models being worth much of anything, so I won't really start feeling any confidence that it'll happen unless/until the forecast is still looking that way as of around Friday.
  18. A lot of Buffet songs are what I'd consider "gimmicky", but listened to Come Monday a few times this weekend and that's just a perfect 1970's tune. Watched an interview where he played it on Letterman in the early 1980's and described it as "the song that kept me from killing myself while living in a Howard Johnson in Marin County."
  19. SCW seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
  20. Elon says he estimates his damages caused by ADL to be "half the value of Twitter", which he says amounts to upwards of $22B. JFC, people used to look at this guy like some revolutionary genius. He massively overpaid for a social media site b/c he's an insecure man-baby, completely fucked it, and is now blaming THE JEWS for it being a bad investment.
  21. Clocked a total of 11 minutes of rain today in my neck of Houston. 8 minutes of moderate rain around 2:00. 3 minutes of heavy rain around 5:00. Maybe 1/5 inch total. Still, by far, the most rain I've had in 2 months.
  22. WTI up $6 on the week to $86, highest price level of 2023 to date.
