  1. No real drama for either Montero or Stanek is a very welcome sight.
  2. FYI, there's a really great Metroid-vania indie called Afterimage that came out a few weeks ago. Very solid game, but it sucks on Switch. Load times after a fast travel can take 15-20 seconds, respawn times after a death can sometimes stretch upwards of 45 seconds. Basically becomes unplayable late in the game when you're dying often. Wasn't even thinking when I downloaded for Switch instead of PS5. Shame, b/c it's a really good game.
  3. Just keep taking 2/3.
  4. After last summer, I never thought I'd say this, but that's more than enough rain. We're good for a while here in Houston.
  5. Say huh? Quite a journey LSU -> Auburn -> TXST
  6. So, I follow the "Houston Heights Foodies" group on FB that's actually quite useful for news about restaurant openings and reviews of new places. However, there are lots of simpletons on there that ask extremely broad, dumb questions. "Looking for a good place to eat inside the Beltway that serves alcohol" Oh, that narrows it down! Or the morons in the comments that didn't read the original post. Somebody will be like "Tried (restaurant) on (street) in (neighborhood). Really loved the fajitas and the margaritas were strong but tasty!" In the comments: "Looks good, what restaurant and where is it located?"
  7. Never in doubt.
  8. It is pitch black outside my office at 10:20 am. Houston area bout to get worked.
  9. Some fat, chain-smoking Hawaiian:
  10. Not a single sunny day on the 15-day forecast for Houston. Every day from here thru 5/22 is "scattered thunderstorms" with between a 40% and 60% chance of rain.
  11. Exact same thing happened last year. Buddy of mine had a big crawfish boil the first Saturday in May. After weeks of awesome weather in April, it was low 90's and swampy as hell. Everybody was drenched in sweat.
  12. Meh, it's certainly possible, but revisions go both ways. Before this past report, most revisions were to the upside over the last year. Usually a factor of underdoing or overdoing seasonal adjustments. As long as the other metrics stay encouraging (U-3, U-6, prime-age LFPR...), I don't really care all that much about the headline number.
  13. Lollygagged bad during the final week of March and first half of April. Had a 4-day vacation weekend, couple of mid-week baseball games and a bunch of after-work events, and ended up only working out probably 5 or 6 times during that 3 week stretch, along with too much booze and bad dietary habits. Been back on the routine the last 3 weeks and pretty much back to where I was when I made this post. Gonna stick with my current gym routine probably through Memorial Day, but my big project this summer is going to be doing a lot more core exercises and really focusing on trimming down the gut/waist. I'm very happy with where my arms/shoulders/chest are these days, but I've got a lot of work to do below the sternum.
  14. It's likely that tomorrow, at the hottest part of the day, I'm going to go jump in my pool, and come up with teeth chattering and immediately get out. Water temp is still a few degrees below "comfortable."
  15. Beat Trey to starting the thread again! Anyways, we're getting a sneak peak of summer this weekend, with sustained temps in the low 90's today and tomorrow, though it shouldn't stick around long. Supposed to be an extended period of clouds and rain chances starting next week to limit temps to 85 or less through 5/20. After 3 years of an extended La Nina, we'll see if we actually get a milder, wetter summer this year with the El Nino that is being widely predicted. Fingers crossed.
  16. 13th!!! straight "stronger than expected" jobs report. 253K vs. 180K estimated U-3 "headline" unemployment 3.4% (50-year low) U-6 "real" unemployment: 6.6% (30-year low). Black U-3: 4.7% (all-time low) Prime-Age (25-54) participation rate: 83.3% (15-year high). About the only metric that hasn't fully recovered or hit new records is the overall participation rate (currently 62.6% vs. 63.3% in February 2020). Boomers that quit working during COVID ain't coming back.
  17. Pump prices are far more correlated with RBOB gasoline futures than with Crude. RBOB has fallen from $2.81 in mid-April to $2.33 today. Pump prices tend to SLOWLY head in the same direction as RBOB. Should bleed off a couple pennies each day over the next week or so. Always worth a quick search on gasbuddy to find the cheapest station in your zip code. https://www.gasbuddy.com/home
  18. As expected, Fed raises 25 BPS and then signals a likely pause.
  19. Getting comically oversold. Shorts get aggressive every time the word "bank" gets uttered in financial markets. Had stabilized pretty well around $75 the last 2 weeks. Then FRC, who's been shaky since the initial bank panic in March, finally gives up the ghost and gets their bones picked by JMP and it's time to panic. Inventory reports still consistently showing solid crude draws, and it's not even summer driving season yet. Of course, traders wipe their asses with inventory reports lately.
  20. Oh nice, Cloak has a new album coming out in a few weeks. First since 2019. They've released a few singles already.
  21. Coming soon? to the far north pocket of the Heights/Shady Acres. Noticed that demolition of the existing houses (RIP Throughgood) and crumbling warehouses on 26th recently got started.
  22. Spring Branch Karen thinks actors playing characters of other genders is the exact same thing as a drag show. I'm not joking.
  23. To move up 9 freaking spots?!?!
