  1. 10-year yield drops down to 3.4%, lowest since early September, following FOMC presser.
  2. Quick u-turn there towards positive territory after FOMC presser, despite Powell referencing "a couple more hikes" to get sufficiently restrictive. Markets seemed to like that Powell was "gratified" to see "disinflation" that isn't a result of a weakened labor market.
  3. Found this on last Friday's weekly recap of new metal albums on MetalInjection. Some interesting, prog-y, technical stuff.
  4. Ozzy is officially done touring for good. All scheduled shows cancelled. Was never able to fully recover from his back issues.
  5. Just a few days ago, Lauren Tom (Connie and Minh on KOTH and Amy on Futurama) said the new season of Futurama should start this summer.
  6. 26-4, although 2 of those were very light "3 beers over the course of 4 hours" affairs . Lost about 9 lbs on the month and got back into a steady exercise routine. Down a notch on my belt. Mission accomplished. Intend to continue to limit weekday drinking as much as possible, but if I feel like tagging along to a Thursday happy hour or nursing a couple beers while grilling, I'll do it, but really going to try and cut out occasions of "drinking just because." And start a bit later and drink a little less on weekends.
  7. Announced like a month ago, but wanted to point out that a major DLC is coming out 4/19. Burning Shores will be Forbidden West's equivalent to what Frozen Wilds was to Zero Dawn. New map area and quests, new machines, higher level cap. Only available for the PS5 version. Sad to admit that I put probably 40 hours into the PS4 version but never actually finished it. Hit the level cap while still having a decent chunk of main story left and just lost motivation to keep slogging through. Took a break for a while and when I tried to pick it back up, I just couldn't get back into it. Finally got my hands on a PS5 late last Fall, so I'll probably start a brand new playthrough this Spring after grabbing Burning Shores.
  8. FWIW, those of you talking about dusting off your consoles to play the game after watching the show, it's worth noting that they released a re-made PS5 version of the original game (upgraded from the original PS3 quality) . It's called "Last of Us: Part 1" and includes the DLC bonus chapter called "Left Behind" that delves further into Ellie's backstory before meeting Joel. There's also "The Last of Us Remastered" for PS4 that upscaled the game from PS3 to PS4 graphics (not a true remake). It's something like $20, or free if you have Playstation Plus Premium. Also includes Left Behind.
  9. Just talked to a buddy in Midland that told me he moved his flight up to this afternoon. Flights scheduled for tomorrow are getting canceled. Couple folks from our SA office are waiting until Thursday morning now to drive in.
  10. Weekday Day Games: 4/5 vs Tigers 5/3 vs Giants 6/21 vs Mets 7/5 vs Rockies 8/2 vs Guardians 8/24 vs Sawks 9/20 vs Orioles
  11. It's a meme. Margot Robbie is married. Every once in a while, a relatively simple joke goes viral on Twitter and leads to a boatload of memes from all corners of the sports world. Exactly that happened over the weekend, involving various athletes and famous actress Margot Robbie. On Friday, a Blue Jays podcast tweeted that TMZ was reporting starting pitcher Mitch White had begun dating Robbie. However, there is no evidence anywhere that TMZ reported anything like that. Nevertheless, the tweet went viral and has led to myriad accounts linking Robbie to their favorite sports figures.
  12. Somebody posted in the Heights Foodies group on FB that a Mexican restaurant from Cypress called "La Viva" is moving in. https://lavivacantina.com/
  13. Yeah, I don't run at all either. Even when I was in my best shape back in my mid-20's I couldn't run more than a couple miles comfortably. Absolutely hated it. I start off each gym session with 30 minutes of cardio, either a brisk uphill walk on the treadmill (~3.3 mph/9% grade) or the elliptical. I sweat my ass off on the elliptical. Good for 300-400 calorie burn. Also try and take my dogs on long walks in the morning when the weather cooperates and have been riding my bike again on the weekends. I intend to start biking more often after the time change.
  14. At least it looks like we'll get the opposite of what usually seems to happen. After crappy weather all week, current forecast calls for a really nice weekend ahead.
  15. Dang, the old Hubcap Grill on 19th had its final weekend of operations. I read that the property owner sold it and the adjacent lot out to a developer. Guess with all the bars and apartments going up on 19th, the land just became too valuable.
  16. Looks like the new takeout-only location of Bollo Woodfired Pizza will be open at Stomping Grounds very soon. I've never eaten there, but have heard great reviews of their main location in Upper Kirby. Appears you can either order online or at a kiosk in the store. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn-8fEdAsoW/
  17. The amount of side content in Ragnarok is nuts. There's easily 30+ hours of shit you can do outside of the story missions, and that's not even counting the stuff you can't access until post-game. I haven't advanced the story one bit in my last 10 or so hours of play. Just been killing berserkers, exploring the Crater, beating Muspelheim challenges...etc.
  18. Watched it tonight on a whim. Hadn't really heard much about it, but kept seeing references to on various sites, so figured there had to be something worthwhile. Honestly was expecting something totally different, more of a serious thriller. Anyways, I loved it. I enjoy cooking as much as anyone and trying all kinds of restaurants, but I can't stand the whole "hard-edged avant garde chef"/"10-course $500 meal where you get 1 teaspoon of each deconstructed dish" scene. This was such a welcome skewering of the whole thing. Was watching by myself and still had some genuine laugh out loud moments:
  19. Rig Count has basically been etched in stone for close to 6 months now. Goes up or down a handful each week but always reverts back to ~770. 7/29/22: 767 10/21/22: 771 1/27/23: 771
  20. Epic cheat night! Wife was going out of town so bought myself a steak and drank 3 whole beers over the course of 4 hours or so yesterday evening. Gonna lay off again today and tomorrow. Want to have a couple drinks while making a nice Sunday dinner. That'll put me at 27-3 on the month, which was my goal. Will start February on a little mini-bender for work events next Wednesday and Thursday, but I intend to quickly revert back to "slim to none" weekday drinking the rest of February.
  21. Consumer inflation expectations continue to drop. Down to 3.9% for 2023 in the latest University of Michigan survey. In a related note, overall Consumer Sentiment is picking back up after plunging over the course of 2022.
  22. Best year ever in the history of the company, with $36B in profits, but they had a "disappointing' Q4 so the stock is down 3.5% today.
  23. I saw a similar one once that was basically "at some point you hopped on your bike to ride to your friend's house for the last time without realizing it." I sometimes think about the final line from Stand by Me. "I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was 12. Jesus, does anyone?"
  24. Enjoy the sun today if you are able. Starting this weekend, the extended forecast looks very February.
