  1. Neither being November nor getting dark at 5:45 can't stop it from being 80 degrees.
  2. Weekend went about as expected out at our place based on camera action the last few weeks. No deer or hogs active during the daytime except for a group of doe that show up to one particular stand every morning and evening. One of the guys hunted with his daughter and took one of the bigger ones yesterday evening. I helped with a late night deer harvesting session for first time in years. Uncomfortably warm and muggy all weekend out at the lease. Poured buckets on my drive home and now it's hot and steamy outside. Just doesn't feel like deer season yet. Cameras picked up some good-looking bucks passing by on both Friday and Saturday night, well after sunset. Until the weather cools down and/or the rut starts, I'm not expecting to see much during shooting hours. Was looking back through the photos on the camera linked to my account and the last time I picked up any daytime feeding action was back in mid-October when that brief front passed through and it dropped to the high 40's. Planning a return trip 2 weekends from now, so hopefully it's at least in the 60's by then.
  3. We got decent rain in my neck of Houston Wednesday night and yesterday morning.
  4. Looking like I might dodge the rains this weekend. Only about 30% chance until Sunday afternoon and I'll be on the way back home by then. Gonna be hunting in short sleeves and swatting mosquitoes though. Thanks, La Nina.
  5. Another weekend ahead where the low doesn't get out of the 70's. Moderate cool front should bring some more storms late Monday/early Tuesday and drop temps a bit closer to average.
  6. For a second, I thought this said "Non-Winter Texas Thread" and that actually made sense.
  7. I believe the BLS report estimated a -45K hit from Hurricanes for last month.
  8. LOL at ADP +233K earlier this week.
  9. Wife's best friend has been rehabbing a cabin her Uncle owns up on some acreage in the mountains outside Glenwood Springs. Just sent me a screenshot of this hoss of a Mule Deer she picked up on game camera recently.
  10. Sounds right. This is East Texas, so decent bucks rarely make it to a "mature" age in our neck of the woods.
  11. Wish I could have got a body view so I could get a better idea on size and age. Thinking he's pretty damn close to the camera and it's causing a bit of forced perspective to make him look bigger than he probably is.
  12. Not a hog! Well, hello there.
  13. Own the minerals on all 620?
  14. Crew of about 7-8 on my camera at 9:45 last night, including 2 absolute tanks that were much larger than the rest. I'm heading up Friday afternoon for Opening Weekend and might try to get in a nighttime hog hunt if I can get there in time and conditions aren't too sloppy following the rain. None of the other guys getting there until Saturday so don't really feel like getting stuck in mud, in the dark, all by my lonesome. We had the same solid buck (by East Texas standards) show up at a different feeder at 8:10 last night, exact same time as the night before. I swear to god we're dealing with vampire animals out at our lease. They only come out at least 30 minutes after sundown. I haven't seen any daytime feeding action on the cameras since that last little 48 hour cool front 2 weeks ago.
  15. Middle of next week, maybe. Until then expect days like today. At least there are some actual water droplets falling from the sky in my area. Almost forgot what that looked like.
  16. Was the landman just gonna pull out his wallet and pay for the lease in cash?
  17. Q3 GDP and Inflation numbers released:
  18. Come borrow some of ours. They've cleared out some nice 25 yard circles around our feeders. Nothing but rutted up sand. Funny enough, me and some of the other guys on my lease just spent part of the morning talking about putting up hog panel fencing at our 2 newest stands. Hogs have really taken over those feeders this year. Deer rarely ever get a chance to come eat in peace. We estimate it'll be about $300 per feeder to put up 6 16-feet panels and a t-post every 4 feet. That sound about right?
  19. Ghost announces a huge international tour this Spring and Summer. https://metalinjection.net/tour-dates/ghost-announces-world-tour-seems-to-be-teasing-new-material Final stops are in Austin 8/14 (Moody Center), Fort Worth 8/15 (Dickies Arena), and Houston 8/16 (Toyota Center). I'm definitely planning on going to the Houston show. Been wanting to see them live for a long time.
  20. It's snowing hard in Aspen/Snowmass and Crested Butte this morning. Looks like Denver should get it's first dusting tomorrow and seems likely y'all are done with temps above 60 for the foreseeable future.
  21. How many acres? No experience with KS, but it looks like Colby is on the outskirts of one the more active oil plays in the state. 2 decades in this business I have never once heard of a modern day lease bonus figure that low. Like $20/acre is something I'd expect to see in a lease taken 40+ years ago. 3 year term is pretty standard. 1/8 is basically the bare minimum default royalty in the absence of negotiation.
  22. Forecast of 82/65 and 40% chance of rain on Saturday and Sunday at my lease. That's following 2 days of heavy rain on Thursday and Friday. Looks like it will be damn near perfect in time for Weekend 2, but unfortunately I'm gonna be out of state for a football road trip. If I decided to sit out this weekend, I wouldn't be able to make it out until 11/15, so a warm, wet Opening Weekend slopping around in the mud it is.
  23. Nice tall horns there. What county?
  24. All I've been picking up on the camera I set up a month ago is pigs late at night/super early in the morning, usually between 10 pm and 2 am. I genuinely think the excessively warm and dry weather the past ~6-8 weeks at our place has altered feeding behavior. We were seeing a lot more action around morning and evening feed times earlier in the Summer. Very rarely lately have we been picking up anything, deer or pigs, during daylight hours. It's been a good 30 degrees cooler late at night than during the day where we are. There's a group of doe that have been stopping by 1 specific stand almost every evening the past 3 weeks, but usually not until a good 30 minutes after sundown, close to 2.5 hours after the feeder goes off. They hung around grazing from about 7:30 to 7:45 last night. Nice buck showed up about 30 minutes later. Frustrating. One of the guys was out there this weekend and went ahead and set clocks back an hour and adjusted feed times to pre-emptively account for the DST changeover next weekend. We'll see if/how the animals adjust this week.
