  1. Headed to Floore’s for Keen tomorrow night. Where should I eat if I’m gonna be on 1604 between 35 and Helotes?
  2. Bass camp starts tomorrow, but I took the gf out on the Deerfield river with my favorite guide as a pre-camp excursion. We stopped counting after 50 smallies and ended up with 5 bass in the 17”-19” class. (She caught 4 of them). She was awesome fishing flukes, and the smallies took my poppers all afternoon. I even took a blackmail picture of the guide trying out the spinning rod. He caught a bass on his only cast. This last big one came when I had hooked the small bass on a popper and saw the big one chasing it. I barked out orders to cast at my fish and she got the big one to take her fluke. It was a really dramatic take, super close to the raft, and it taped out at 19”. As per usual, saw lots of wildlife, including a bald eagle catching a fish. Finished the day up with a Charley Crockett concert in Holyoke, MA.
  3. Necro-ish bump for particpated threads sake. Got a circulator this week. An Anova clone from monoprice. So far, I've done chicken thighs, a strip, and pork chops. They all were good, but nothing special. Definitely over cooked the latter two, wonder if my circulator runs hot.
  4. I use a small bit of duct or electrical tape generally. I've also used dacron flyline backing when I didn't want to spool up 300yds on a surf reel, but I like the tape on light reels.
  5. I use braid to flouro on my spinning reels. I like it and they don't tangle for me. I think 10 is a good age for braid. My son at 6 spent so much time playing around the house with his spinning reel that I had to refill it about once a month for a while. So, I used 8# trilene big game.
  6. Took a trip to visit the gf back east. I’ve been lamenting my loss of the Merrimack River and hunting smallies. We rented a canoe and floated a 6 mile stretch. A year ago she had never cast a line before; 10 minutes in she landed an 18” smallie. We ended up landing 32 total with 3 in that 18” class. The one I’ve been chasing for the last 3 years took my fly, but threw it on a jump. I was at a bad angle and got a bad hook set. It looked to be 22-23” and had that kind of jump where it can’t really get all the way out of the water. The weather couldn’t have been better. We saw the usual bald eagles and various river mammals. Also had a little shorebird defending its egg by acting injured and trying to lure us away. Going back to Western MA in August for a 3 day fly fishing Bass Camp.
  7. Seventh grade me would have made my parents take me to Wally's to get autographs from Corby Brooks, Jason Reeves, and Keith Lyons.
  8. REK on Thursday! I'll update the thread. Kids want an adventure day Saturday, so we might head to bastrop and motor upstream as far as we can on the Colorado. Explore some islands, fish, and wade around a bit.
  9. Caught a tiny largemouth and one white. Guys at the steps we’re catching some, but not on every cast like you get sometimes.
  10. I'll be hitting the San Gabriel above Granger at the boat launch Judge pointed out tomorrow around 6:30. I have an extra seat available in the big green beastly canoe that is open to whoever would like to try to find some whites. Please bring a life vest as only one adult vest made it back with me. I'll be primarily fishing conventional, scouting for a return trip with the kids on Saturday.
  11. I took them there on a hike when I was in town house hunting! Love Reimer's!
  12. Yeah, I got back on Thursday! Gonna miss the river smallies in New England, but it will be nice to revisit my old haunts and meet up with some of y'all.
  13. Agreed. I was gonna mention get there at 4:30am if you want parking. Just repatriated to central texas, looking to get my kids out on the water soon. Will try the boat launch + canoe.
  14. I think Dickerson's is "the steps." Been there many times.
  15. For cauliflower rice, get fresh vs. frozen if you can. Don't crowd the pan.
  16. Get a rope! Edit: While this offends me from a low-carb perspective, it pisses me off from a chili perspective!
  17. Cauliflower, broccoli, cucumbers, celery, brussel sprouts, green beans, asparagus, zucchini, and summer squash are my primaries. I like sunflower seeds, pepitas, and pistachios for nuts/seeds. For fruit, berries are about it for me.
