Just got back from a week in Arles. It's a cool little town with lots of history, entertainment and surprises.
Some Arles ideas:
- Obviously the two thousand old arena. In Sept they are hosting some events that seem to be bullfighting/art/music all together (?!?): https://arenes-arles.com/programme-2021/feria-du-riz-2021/
- There's a farmer's market on Wed and Sat mornings. Lots of stands selling food, bread, fruit, etc. Use this website for details on the markets (plus markets in other cities): https://www.jours-de-marche.fr/
- Luma Arles is a new "cultural center" with an interesting building and art - https://www.luma.org/en/arles
- Inside an old rock quarry, there's an art exhibition of Cezanne and Kadinsky. They project and animate the paintings on the rock quarry walls and floors. It's amazing and overwhelming: https://www.carrieres-lumieres.com/en
- Visit the Pont Du Gard - the 2000 year old roman aqueduct over a river. It's huge! You can also rent kayaks upstream and kayak under it. Aqueduct: https://www.pontdugard.fr/en/ancient-work-art Kayaks: https://www.kayakvert.com
