  1. I posted a little about the semi final game over on the softball board. 5-3 in 13 innings last night over #1 Denton Guyer! Down 7-3...Waco hits two home runs in top 7 to go up 9-3. Weslaco rallies for 8 runs and a walk off grand slam to win the state championship. What a game. Weslaco doesn't have any D-1 recruits that I know of, Waco has an A&M signee (ranked #13 player in the country) and a Baylor signee. But Weslaco is bringing it home to the RGV! #PuroPinche956!
  2. Probably cheaper and easier to build a natatorium rather than finding space for a softball stadium
  3. I might be wrong. Or maybe it's just for high school athletes that I'm thinking of. Because why would they have to sign an NLI if the financial aid agreement ties both to each other? Currently, high schoolers sign both an NLI and a financial aid agreement.
  4. Just wanted to give a quick shout out to RGV softball...2 RGV schools are heading to the State Championship game! 5A Harlingen South beat Aledo 1-0 and 6A my alma mater Weslaco High beat (#1) Denton Guyer 5-3 in 13 innings! They are the first two valley softball teams to ever make it to the state final. Let's go ladies! #Puro pinche 956
  5. Financial aid agreements only tie the school, not the player. So even if he signed a financial aid agreement, that doesn't tie him down unless he's already been accepted and attending classes
  6. Given that he said "in Knoxville", I'm assuming he was talking about the other UT.
  7. I was overseas. Couldn't exactly make it to any of the events. Some of us aren't lucky enough to have work trips to Austin.
  8. I think my favorite was "I committed 3 days after I was offered in my English class because I was bored and didn't want to read the great Gatsby" lol
  9. If I have a local business in Austin, and I want to pay Gunnar Helm $1 million to be in a commercial, I can't see any way where the NCAA can come in and say "Well, hold on, this cap has been reached, he can't get paid for your commercial". Maybe payments direct from the school get capped, but they can't and shouldn't regulate what an athlete might get paid for appearances, commercials, signing autographs, etc. Collectives would fall under this category and therefore shouldn't be subject to any cap
  10. Forgot about this kid Lucas Bergvall coming from Sweden. Is described like some sort of wunderkind. Just turned 18yo, box to box midfielder, we beat Barca for his signature. If he's good enough, maybe he adds to the midfield rotation. Article from the Athletic:
  11. If these Donley/Scarlett could really pan out over the next 2 ish years, that would be really nice. Donley as a backup 10, Scarlett as a CF reinforcement. That would be nice. Moore is 16, he's got a little time. Strikers are expensive though. That's a position that's really hard to find an under the radar, bargain player. I agree though, we definitely need to pony up for a striker. Then budget for the midfield.
  12. That's where being in Europe helps. If we want to or need to rest VDVs hamstring or push him to the left to rest Udogie, Dragusin is ready made to start a bunch of games
  13. Current starter level players (realize positions are fluid, but I'm putting players where they most often played) 9: Richarlison Wings: Sonny, Johnson, Kulu (backup Werner?) 10: Maddison 6/8: Bissouma, Sarr, Bentancur LB: Udogie CB: VDV/Cuti (backup Dragusin) RB: Porro GK: Vicario Promising Youngsters that have been called into the first team: Moore, Donley, Scarlett (not entirely sure on their respective positions) Looks to me that we probably need to prioritize upgrading at the 9 and at the 6/8. Having a CDM that can protect against the counter when both full backs are up and inverted could shore up the defense. Need capable backups all over the place, but definitely at LB/RB, in the midfield, and at the 9. We have 3-4 (depending on Werner) wingers who are perfectly capable of executing their role in Ange-ball. This might be a good position to give the youngsters some playing time in the early stages of the cups/Europa. Kulu is also a Swiss army knife who can play RW, 10, or apparently even a false 9 type (against the likes of Sheffield at least) when he's in good form. And for the sake of my sanity, can we PLEASE do something about set pieces?! Thoughts on priority positions to upgrade?
  14. Pride of my hometown Weslaco Panthers Got to watch a game with him in Weslaco a few years ago up in the press box. Really cool to hear his UT stories.
  15. If you went to go watch the movie when it came out earlier this year, episode 1 of demon Slayer is exactly what was covered in the movie. If you didn't go watch the movie, then it's a really cool start to the season. MHA season 7 just kicked off as well, so two really good ones going on. Another one that's been highly recommended to me is Solo Leveling. I have heard REALLY good things about it from multiple people
  16. But the WCWS will. They're always going to have that home field advantage and we are going to have to beat them there.
  17. I have questions about Ange-ball and his unwillingness or inability to adjust... But I do appreciate having a manager who yells "STOP PASSING BACKWARDS" when he's furious.
  18. It's even better in person. The whole spectacle of a sumo tournament from the entrances, the salt throwing, the crowd reactions, an unexpected victory... It's all pretty awesome to see
  19. I'll copy and paste!
  20. Wish I could. Heading from DFW to San Diego where the wife is already waiting for me 😅
  21. No update from Texas Football Twitter. An hour ago, they tweeted that the game is at 1pm CT
  22. I'm on a flight from OKC to DFW and we were diverted to Austin.
  23. We last made the tournament in 1986. Conference championships in 1955 and 2019. With a team full of players that likely grew up either Texas or Texas A&M fans. Uh, yeah, this is 100% the super bowl.
  24. By gawd, that's Jerry Jones's music!!!
