  1. I don't know about the implication that he's among the 5 most important franchise cornerstones in the league, but the overall point that there exists a better chance I will stumble upon a wormhole, go back in time to 1997, and fulfill my dream of getting double teamed by prime Liv Tyler and Heather Graham than there is that Detroit is going to trade Cade for anything.
  2. I don't know that Abercrombie is espousing any particular morality. I think the class warfare aspect you allude to is probably intentional, though he doesn't really seem to be pushing one side over the other as much as highlighting the intrinsic failings of both sides. I did think of an apparent exception to my suggestion that he shows characters either failing in efforts to become better people or being swept up and ground down by events beyond their control. Victarine dan Teufel at the end of Wisdom of Crowds seems to be resisting the change Glokta wants to force onto her while still evolving beyond the absolute survivalist "stand with the winners" ethos she had at the beginning of the series. The assumption I have is that she is headed to Styria. This makes me want to re-read the 3 stand-alone books (especially Best Served Cold) as they might also highlight a few exceptional characters who are able to grow and resist the chaos of the world at large.
  3. I thought the pelicans were going to give it away in the fourth going small with Alvarado. Hayes was playing good defense and killing them on run-outs in the third. Not sure he played a minute in the 4th.
  4. He bricked a free throw on a technical that was just ugly. If you've ever seen the Royal Tenenbaums, the scene where the Baumer is tossing his racket at the ball as he just doesn't care to try in the slightest is close to what that free throw looked like.
  5. Has a player ever fallen off as quickly from such a height as Harden has? I've just been watching the 4th quarter of this game, so maybe he's just checked out, but he's been the worst player on the court by a fair margin. Like he just sucks. Sloppy handle, poor decision making, no burst, not even a threat to score off the dribble at all.
  6. No. She was otherwise cool and hot. Had a brief nearly successful music career, married a douchebag, divorced, remarried another douche last I heard.
  7. I broke up with a girl strictly because her smacking while eating was so disgusting. One of the few peeves I inherited from my dad that I've held onto.
  8. I just finished the last book in the First Law world. I've loved every book he's done in that world. After finishing this trilogy though I started thinking about them a little less superficially. I started wondering how allegorical he intended the recent stories to be but quickly started thinking more broadly about all the books in that setting. The prevailing thread seems to be that the world will invariably change the individual, rarely for the better, but that individuals trying to change themselves inevitably fail. It's pretty bleak as a commentary on life in general. Anyone have other thoughts?
  9. If the refs are going to let them play KD this way the whole series the Nets have no chance.
  10. yeah but is he even a good rebounder? He's not a big effort dude.
  11. Blake is trash. He brings nothing. LMA not a good matchup for the Celtics and might still be dealing with the injury.
  12. Tatum having twice as many FTs as KD is ridiculous to anyone actually watching how this game has been played.
  13. Claxton's been great too.
  14. Yeah on both of those plays he probably should have just dribbled out to reset. On the first play he could have tried to go up and get a foul call, the second he should never have forced the shot.
  15. If the Nets pull this off I might really have to consider whether the earth might be flat.
  16. can't remember ever seeing KD get his jumper blocked like that.
  17. Did Kyrie give the fans the bird right there?
  18. not even close. KD and Kyrie always a threat to go off for 25 in <10 minutes.
  19. Rough, rough 1Q for KD. For him to play that poorly and the Nets to still be down only one is miraculous.
  20. Not if the refs are going to continue to allow two hands all over him all the time.
  21. MPJ is not in the same classification as Zion or Simmons. He was legit injured and neither he nor the team had any incentive to milk it. Simmons made up an excuse to get out of most of the season and if his back injury is real it's reasonable to assume it's at least in part due to poor commitment to staying conditioned while being a bitch. Zion had a legit injury but he clearly wants out of NO and has therefore milked the injury while also clearly displaying a lack of commitment to conditioning and professionalism.
  22. Bad sequence by KD earlier with the turnover and then bad transition D leaving Smart open for and easy 3 ball.
  23. I'm really looking forward to the Nuggets-Warriors series. On the surface Golden State should walk away with it easily. Warriors have been good defensively all year and Denver is not a good defensive team. Nuggets don't really have a go-to scorer outside Jokic while the Warriors have 3-4 guys that could work for Jakacki Bag & Barrel. That said, the Warriors have some serious variables that could influence the outcome. If the Warriors get bad Klay and limited/no Steph they could be in trouble. The matchup of Draymond vs Jokic is intriguing to me. Joker will have to go off for something like 28/10/10 to get it done, but it could be a fun series if he does.
