  1. It's more of a testament to the racism and islamophobia that pervades US culture than it is to mercy though. If he was Rudy bin Suleiman and could quote the Koran in Arabic he'd be strung up with the quickness.
  2. I'd like to see them go to an all-tourney format. Let every team host an 8-team one-week tourney with two 4-team round robin pools followed by a championship game. Tourney championships are first tie breaker in seeding or earn extra cash or some sort of draft compensation or something. Reduced travel stress. Reduced back to backs. Improve experience for fans of other teams. Improve revenue for stadiums of teams that suck but do good numbers when visiting stars are there. Also more efficient use of facilities.
  3. I don't really mean to derail the thread so if you want to move the convo elsewhere I'd be happy to. My comment on the NATO/Russia stuff is not meant as a critique so much as an acknowledgement that in something as complex as this geopolitical hellscape, nothing is guaranteed. Does this neuter Russia, leaving China dependent on Western cooperation for continued growth and development, or does it make Putin desperate, leading to nuclear winter and a generation of West Coast kids immortalized as atomic shadows kneeling under desks? I don't think the latter is likely, but it's not impossible.
  4. JFC, this! He’s one of the most effective presidents we’ve had and got shit done in just a few years. Even if others are doing the heavy lifting, he hired them, he knows his shit. He’s not as progressive as I’d like, that’s literally it, any democrat is closer to my beliefs than any of the hate mongering fraud worshippers. Biden 2024! Hell put his head in one of those Futurama jars and give him 4 more years after that! Oh you mean the climate bill that's 25 years too late and a few trillion dollars short, that one? My grandchildren aren't going to have to worry about forest fires b/c there aren't going to be any fucking forests. But sure, carbon capture away. I do give credit on the economy. I guess time will tell if the foreign policy approach is a winning one. I'm glad we're not in a war for the first time in a few generations. Like I said, he's fine. I have no problem with the job he's done. You can applaud his meh media presence because you're already on his side, but he really did nothing to win over the moderate conservatives or squash the Trumpkins. He's been fine this term. He's not going to be fine in 2028. He's going to be unfit for office. The decline can be as swift as it is inevitable. If it's him or Trump I'll hold my nose and do my duty, but I sure wish it wasn't him.
  5. I think she would have been ... fine. Just like Biden's pretty much ... fine. I will take fine all god damn day after the nightmare of Trump. If Hillary wanted to run in 2024 I'd vote for her over Joe because I am presented with a mountain of evidence every single day that people over 80 should not be running to the grocery store on their own much less running the country.
  6. I'm not saying I doubt him, but what is he claiming Morey lied about? Did he get promised a max deal for taking a short term discount last time? Does he think they weren't really making a good faith effort to trade him? What's the lie?
  7. So you just have to ignore any damning evidence that comes out if it pertains to a different case involving an individual already under indictment? That's the part that seems stupid.
  8. As a layperson I just have to say this is the stupidest fucking argument of all time. You're telling me that the Feds have some mafioso in their sights, and separately have a NJ garbage truck company exec on the hook for tax evasion and the garbage man lets slip that he saw mafioso dump a body into his truck and paid him to keep quiet about it that that testimony is null b/c it occurred in the context of a different investigation? That's dumb as hell.
  9. One of my favorite comments was someone said that white girl in the medium blue shirt is a real one. Knocked down 3 times, got up 4.
  10. I guess some of the people in the blue shirts were women that I initially thought were dudes
  11. Yeah there were a few too many women catching blows from grown men there.
  12. In many contexts redundancy is not inefficiency. Having redundant surveillance systems seems like a good idea.
  13. I liked JVG. He distracted a little from the game but he never took himself seriously. If this means more Richard Jefferson I'm probably muting a lot more games.
  14. I don't think you're reading those studies with a critical eye. Oh noes, this century old system did not immediately adapt to an abrupt disruption. The disrupting policy therefore must be bad. Give me a 50 year study to compare ten minutes versus none. Also is great that these studies highlight pitfalls of term limits. Why not legislate ways to address those when instituting term limits? Implementation details.
  15. I understand that term limits might have drawbacks too, but it's naive to just say "vote better". In our fucked up two party system the incumbent has huge advantages that make it difficult to get them primaried out unless they run afoul of the political machine. So then the choice ends up being the probably corrupt 12 term octogenarian or the dude that wants to instill the Christian version of Sharia law. You have to incentivize the machine to not allow power to congeal on individuals and to put forth moderate candidates that can attract voters from both sides.
  16. I'm very curious what the argument against term limits would be. Age limits, term limits, campaign contribution limits. I'm for all the limits.
  17. Because stars aren't working 40x harder?
  18. go fuck your own fucking face you fucking piece of shit
