  1. I live on a pretty rural lake out in East Texas and see a lot of the birds posted up-thread by Anton. We have a pair of nesting Bald Eagles that have been around for a few years now and I see them quite a bit. I work from home most of the time and can always hear them chattering well before I can see them. When the lake was really low last fall I saw them hang out on the shore and pick apart a decent sized catfish with the quickness. I've been putting up Eastern Bluebird boxes for a few years and have an ongoing battle with the area rat snakes trying to get the babies. I put up a 5 foot section of stove pipe around the pole that the main box is mounted on yesterday and hope that puts an end to my problem. It's mounted outside the window to my office and I really enjoy watching the whole process. I saw a male scouting the other day but it was before I'd cleaned out the nest from the year before so they wouldn't take to the box. I really want to get a big set of Purple Martin pods but haven't pulled the trigger yet. Something like this: I have a friend that has some of these up out in the country near their pond and it's a lot of fun to watch them go to work. I've never noticed this thread before but will try to get some pictures to share.
  2. I just re-read the first page of this thread and it does a pretty good job of covering both sides of the argument. I tend to fall on the side of the argument that repealing 230 would make it very difficult to keep a site like Surly up. It would also make Tigerdroppings go away, so it might be worth it...
  3. After trolling around FB marketplace for most of the day this one looks like decent value. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/667210194948784/
  4. Yea, it looks to me like that black jeep speeds up to make the light and then the truck waiting just started to move to turn behind PH. Such a f'n shame that it was your bombjack bronco too. Not like you can just go scoop another one up with the insurance money. Sorry man, glad you are okay though. @Planet Houston
  5. Exactly. I'm a white dude with a scraggly beard and live in East Texas - random people feel comfortable assuming I'll just agree with whatever inane BS they spew. "No, I don't really know how much more expensive eggs are right now. My wife does the shopping and I'm pretty sure the increase is not even a rounding error in my monthly food spend." "Btw, we're at a 7th grade b-team basketball game, where did the egg talk come from?"
  6. You forgot about the real echo-chamber-of-bullshit - Facebook. People that live in a FNC/Facebook cocoon of BS are shocked when I push back on their hot takes. It's like they really never come into contact with anyone who doesn't agree with them on everything. They come in the Surl cloakroom and have to handwave it away as a cabal of leftist thought. It's a real shock to the system for garden-variety trumpaloos.
  7. My crusty ass beater bass boat wouldn't start the other day (just a dead battery) and made me feel the urge to get something a little newer and more reliable. I started poking around looking at used stuff thinking prices may have moderated a bit - FML. I haven't been watching them long enough yet to tell if boats are actually moving at these asking prices, but holy shit man. I'm looking for an aluminum boat around 19-20 ft, bass boat or center console, 2015 - 2020ish, with at least 50 hp. You can't find much of anything under 20k that doesn't look like a total junker. This is the best value I've seen so far and it's really not quite as big as I want. I've got 3 kids and they all like to fish. Taking all of them on something like this is asking for a trip to the hospital. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/6234223276607041/ An Avid or Ranger rt would be ideal, but I'd rather not spend 35k on an aluminum boat.
  8. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CoiQli7D_4K/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= Which one of you nasty fuckers sharted at the WM Open? You know this itched like a bastard when it dried.
  9. Someone even brought up Zelensky's wife's spending habits - I heard she has been seen in Paris recently at all the luxury shops!!1!1!!1!one!!! Like we are just giving Ukraine bags full of cash and they are helping themselves to it. GTFOHWTMFBS
  10. Anecdotal, but I'm noticing more and more of my foxnews watching friends/family/coworkers mentioning how they are concerned about the money we are sending to Ukraine. Concerned that it's too much money, concerned that Ukraine is corrupt, and concerned that we don't know where the money is going. It's a pretty consistent line of BS, so the messaging machine fed by these assholes seems to be working. My message in response has been the same every time - we have a Hitler/Churchill situation here and if you can't tell who is who, then you need to change the channel. And when you have a Hitler/Churchill situation you don't let your concerns paralyze your support. And we are sending our aging equipment/B team gear and able to help knock down one of the worst actors in the world without putting US troops in harm's way. AND even though I don't like wasting money, this is a fart in the tornado of the defense spending budget. Maddening.
  11. Talk to me about sights. I recently got a SA Saint 556 that came with flip up open sights. I'm starting to look around for something that would be good for quick shots inside 100 yards most of the time. Riding around/stalking for hogs and being able to get on them quick without struggling to pick them up in the scope. Would something like this be good? https://www.opticsplanet.com/sig-sauer-romeo5-x-compact-red-dot-sight-1x20mm-2-moa-red-dot-0-5-moa-adj-aaa-m1.html I've been shooting deer rifles my whole life but am a noob on this stuff so any input would be appreciated.
  12. But it's functionally all the same? No need to pay for a better brand?
  13. Dumb question amnesty - I'm looking to upgrade the RAM on my Dell all-in-one. It has two RAM slots and came with 8 GB of RAM, but I haven't cracked it open to see if that's 2x4GB cards or 1x8GB card. It can take up to 32 GB so I think I'm going to just buy 2x16GB cards and swap them out. My question is, does it really matter where I order the cards from? Pretty sure I'm out of whatever warranty it came with and the RAM sticks directly from Dell are ~$85 per vs. other sites where I see them for ~$39 per. As long as the MHz are the same and they are both DDR4, is there a reason to buy directly from Dell? The $39 sticks are a "house brand" from MemoryStock.com, but even Samsung brand are $60.
  14. A couple of ditch pigs wallowing around on the bathroom floor. Sounds about right.
  15. Zire Golf on IG posted something about this and some of the comments were pathetic. Trumpaloos talking about how it was a power move while masturbating furiously to this mega alpha winning another one.
  16. Yup, I'm not falling for the banana in the tailpipe on NAPE again. Seems like all I ever leave NAPE with is a wicked hangover.
  17. Yea, that's a little confusing. So your PED just hasn't dug into the data yet? I was going to make a crack about listening to the experts- unless they contradict your priors, but I realized I'm doing the exact same thing in reverse. My PCP is a little kooky and was telling me I didn't really need the vax (because I was young and healthy) even during the early OG waves when most everyone was clamoring to get a shot. I ignored his advice and got the shot as soon as I could because I live close to grandparents and didn't want to be the one to get them sick. It is a bit confusing to know what's best for my 3 kids. They've all gotten the shot and had natural infections since then that have all been pretty much non events. The data seem all over the place and anyone can find a study to support whatever the believed in the first place. My oldest is a 13 y.o. boy and is really the only one that falls into a category where the risk/reward of the vax seems to possibly be in question. But from what I've read, even for his age group the probabilities of heart issues is greater from covid infection than it is from the vax.
  18. This dude is ill. Like, Herschel Walker/I don't really know who I am ill. This is some wild shit.
  19. I grew up going here - https://camphuawni.com/ I think went 9 summers as a camper and then another 4 as a counselor and I send all 3 of my kids there now too. It's not as fancy as some of the other camps around but is good, clean fun out in the piney woods. No A/C in the cabins, no electronics in the cabin, etc. It's quite a bit different now than when I went there, but all 3 of my kids love it and will be going again this summer. I'm personal friends with the family that started it and was always in the same cabin with the grandson who now runs it, so let me know if you have questions.
  20. Fantastic info, thank you. Leaning towards a house up hwy 206 above Cinnamon Bay.
