  1. You sure about that? Look at his vote total compared to Nelson's.
  2. If Beto had shown he could carry Texas as a Democrat he'd be a lock - that's game, set, and match. But that didn't happen, even against a loathsome toad, so I don't know what he brings to the table in terms of a national ticket; not sure he has the experience to make the sale.
  3. Karma is a bitch.
  4. Yeah, this is the same thing I'm feeling. This was not the decisive slap-down the Trumpkins deserved and the Republic needed. We may have taken an exit off the highway to autocracy, but we're still on the access road.
  5. Thread title is unnecessarily long. Shirtless Man in Florida Arrested for Going Door to Door Looking to Fight Someone Everyone already assumes the Florida part.
  6. So all the cool kids are posting pictures sideways now? Guess I gotta learn how to do that....
  7. Well, give the man what he wants. Good and hard.
  8. This is the right answer. I used to like staying up to watch the results coming in, and gradually lost interest in the minute-by-minute horserace stuff. Find out the final result whenever it comes in; whether someone was ahead or behind at midnight don't make a shit.
  9. Wikipedia left out 'huge piece of shit' for Rohrabacher and 'wholly owned subsidiary of Koch Enterprises' for Walker.
  10. I had an old Dodge Dart in the 80s that I drove for 8 years. I don't know how many miles because the speedometer/odometer didn't work. Never changed the oil. It was running like a champ when I sold it. My excuse was that I only paid $100 for the car, so what was the point of changing the oil. That old slant 6 was indestructible. /CSB.
  11. Driving past my normal voting location in Austin this morning, I saw a line outside that was easily twice as long as any I've ever seen at that location. So that's one data point snapshot. Glad I voted early.

    Need a ruling

Your wife actually thought it was acceptable to take the skin off a piece of chicken and then put it back? You should mock her mercilessly, and get all the kids to do the same.
  13. I've only done it a couple of times; wouldn't say I have a policy or set of guidelines. One person I knew well, the other not so well; they were both in temporary-seeming financial difficulties and I loaned them money. Was repaid both times. I think it's a judgement call on individual circumstances.
  14. Timely thread. Just the other day, I was thinking how concerned I am about my opossum's flexibility and structural well being.
  15. He owes money all over town? Including to known pornographers? New shit has come to light, man.
  16. Yup. Just let it out, Aphelion. What you're missing about this board is that the snark, snide, and insults - sometimes good-natured, sometimes not - are part of what keeps this place interesting. Sure, it can get out of hand, but it would be a lot less entertaining without them. So a good one-liner (you've got to work on that) about BT's physical and chemical hygiene is by no means out of place. Just be sure you can take it as well as dish it out.
  17. It took several rangers to blow a moose? Shit, I can blow a moose all by myself. Wait, what?
  18. Teach her Go instead. Easier to learn but, IMO, a better game.
  19. I think a large part of what y'all are banging on about the last couple of pages boils down to a question of persuasion. There are a large number of thoughtful, intelligent posters here, originating from both sides of the aisle, who are completely appalled - in my view rightfully - by the Trump faction. There are a few obvious Trump supporters, and a few other posters who claim to be above it all and that they don't support either side, but always seem to argue either in favor of the Trumpist position or against the anti-Trumpist position. Those in the latter two categories are, apparently, immune to persuasion - any combination of facts, logic, appeals to humanity, aversion to being lied to continuously, or simple common sense rolls right off, and the retort is a Trumpish collection of fact-free mocking and name-calling. This understandably leads to some frustration, and that came out in the Brisket post under discussion. How do you get through to people when facts, logic, appeals to humanity, and common sense don't work? You might be tempted to resort to a mirror of the arguments that apparently sway these people: shocking personal attacks that target the emotional lizard brain. Make them think about how they would feel if the policies they advocate were directed against them; they don't get it any other way, so paint a picture of them or their loved ones bleeding out from a madman's fusillade of bullets. Maybe Brisket's post connected on this level; it certainly seems to have struck a nerve. It's a shame that that's the only way to construct an effective argument these days, but I guess some of us follow the thought leaders of our tribe, and the top-down rhetoric of the Trump side has become disturbingly pervasive. tl/dr: maybe fire is the only way to fight fire.
  20. Seconded. All in favor....
  21. I'm not entirely sure that's true. I really wouldn't be surprised if an anti-immigration fascist party here could get 15%, if we had a proportional representation system. Maybe more.
  22. You're still here? Isn't it past your bedtime?
  23. Dude, this thread is not about you. How about you just take a break. Go watch some TV or something.
