  1. Ever since I rolled into DC in 1997 I’ve said the same thing: America is a center right nation that is deeply racist at its core. Everything else stems from there.
  2. The joke I always tell is whenever you see a Colorado Vs. Oregon game, the stands are full of a lot of California kids who didn’t get in their first choice UC school.
  3. Reed is a hard study school, like Swathmore or Chicago. Those kids spend all their free time in the library. You don’t go to Reed to rip toobs and play beer pong. You go to Reed to prep for a graduate degree.
  4. In all fairness to Midwest winters, they are cold as fuck, but the sun does come out. In the PNW a mood lamp and Vitamin D supplements are real. Do look at Lewis and Clark. They offered my son an enormous amount of money.
  5. Salem is fucking small. My wife went to Reed for a year and looked at Willamette. She hated Salem. The Willamette Valley is a weird mix of pretty and meth, and Salem is candidly an ugly little town. If you are going that path, you might as well chuck Lewis and Clark in there. Do your college visit in February. Make sure she understands what she is getting into with PNW weather. My oldest didn’t even do the campus tour at L&C because he hated the weather so much: he just flew home. My youngest was fine and is a rising senior at Oregon. With Trinity, she has to Early Admission. They just don’t let people in Regular Decision. The class is full by then with kids who didn’t auto admit UT and don’t want to go to SMU or Tulane.
  6. Son graduated from Trinity last year. We loved it, especially how cheap it was for private school if you have good grades. My kid is still sitting on 75K in his 529 because of how much Merit and Need Trinity gave. Going to a rich ass school is nothing to sneeze. The school can hold your daughter's hand as long as she needs it. The dorms are clean and spacious, resources good. The only school draw back the two level campus. Going up and down those stairs is PITA. OTOH, Monte Vista is great, and you are just across 35 from the Central Markets over by Incarnate Word. Also, San Antonio fucks. As an out of state parent, flying in and out of SAT is so easy because it's close-ish to downtown.
  7. Important words to remember the next time drought, flood, or hurricane wrecks a southern state.
  8. I’m sorry. Do I, as a DC resident, have any say in this? Or is the whole Democracy and Republican government thing just for some Americans.
  9. I was in Anacostia yesterday morning. Not a cop to be seen. They’ve pulled all the law enforcement from east of the River to do PR postings and assist ICE with immigration raids
  10. I was talking to a colleague about this the other day. His weave has gotten so bad that nobody listens to him from start to finish anymore. He’ll pop off an just announce totally wild shit off the top of his head, but because everyone turned it off 10 minutes ago, it didn’t even make the news. He weighed in on all the copyright AI lawsuits about 3 weeks ago and it just went whoosh.
  11. My former work colleague is a regards guy. He’ll chuck a “Warmly” in there if he is trying to butter up a staffer.
  12. Ima “Best” guy. Best, Bateshorn
  13. Isn't there a line of statistical thought that Mail in Voting ended up helping the GOP alot in 2020? LIke it was a major reason for him overperforming?
  14. I think it probably has to do with her ability to suck a golf ball through a garden hose. Allegedly.
  15. In any rational world, we'd be seeing some serious betting action on a rate increase, not decrease in September. You'd think the Fed would be looking at these numbers, decide to go full Volker, and put this last bit of inflation down for good, being willing to live with a mild to medium recession by Summer-Fall 2026 to be done with it. But we don't live in a rational world. Long term, tariffs and zero/negative immigration aren't classic inflation, in the sense of too much money chasing too few goods, but they will cause a price shock, which will likely excerbate any recession. Long term, if tariffs were to stay in place, they would suck even more money out of any already weakening economy. Like, in 1930-31......
  16. He's still churning through staff like crazy. I'm not in the substance abuse recovery community, but Hegseth gives very white knuckle dry drunk vibes.
  17. Here's the fun part: They are sending another 800 from SC, OH, and WV and they are going to give them guns. It's basically Mogadishu here. I mean the walk across the street from my apartment to the farmer's market in SW yesterday was a bit steamy. Not sure how I would have gotten heirloom tomatoes and stone fruit without a bunch of weekend warriors standing around.
  18. That's quite the chode.
  19. They need 4 to overcome Vance's tiebreaker Tillis and McConnell have a bug in their ass about Jan. 6 participants. It's a niche issue for them but they've torpedo-ed a couple of other nominees on being there or Jan. 6 adjacent.
