  1. Maybe it's your avatar pic or the fact that, if I'm not mistaken, you're a huge history buff who seems to know his shit as well as anybody on this site, but I've always thought you were old as shit. At least pushing 60.
  2. But it does mean you're underrating the Graduate and the Birdcage.
  3. I watched PDL a few weeks ago. Made my wife watch it too. I was surprised how shitty I found that movie to be on rewatch. I remember thinking it was good when I saw it in the theater, but I really did not enjoy it the 2nd time around. When it came out, I was in the midst of my movie snob phase and the less accessible a movie was, the more I was likely to like it. I think I've changed over the past few decades. I gotta remember that because I'm still apologizing to wife for making her watch it.
  4. Yeah I know, but there are a shitload of posters here who love the shit out of that movie. It's a Surly cult classic, and I think it's stupid as fuck.
  5. Ivy league track star. And you know he ran long distances. So after watching it again, did you realize the error of your ways and how completely 100% wrong you were about The Graduate? Or are you a complete fucking moron who should be banned from ever posting in a Surly movie thread unless it's about Adam Sandler movies? Those are the only two choices by the way.
  6. Heil Ditka! I think The Blues Brothers is unwatchable as well. But what do I know? I think Big Trouble In Little China is ridiculously bad.
  7. I think we’re the only two watching.
  8. Watching MotherFatherSon on Starz. It fucking sucks. My wife, hellbent on never agreeing with me on anything, has decided she likes it.
  9. Now that she's gone, it seems like the time to ask something that's been bugging me all season. Is Sophie attractive? Cute? Pretty sure she isn't a smoke show, but I really can't tell if she's at least cute.
  10. I love Tony. I don't see what you're saying about him being a bully. If he is, I think it comes off better than Rob. Rob comes off as a controlling asshole. Hell, that's why he is EOE now. As for his goose being cooked, if anyone in the history of this game can figure out a way around that, it's Tony.
  11. 4. Henry should try GWTW at the theater, though that 9 hour run time is really a bitch. So maybe not. I've seen it in the theater 3 times, but never on TV.
  12. Paramount Summer Film Classics is awesome. I've seen GWTW, Casablanca, and The Graduate among other movies there. Hopefully that won't get cancelled this summer. Another great option in Austin is the Austin Film Society theater is Lincoln Center. It must be fairly new and I just discovered it early this year. I caught In The Heat of the Night there and started following what they were going to be showing in the future. And the Covid hit. Definitely check it out once the world returns to normalcy.
  13. That was a reverse Sophie's choice. I despise Ashley so much, I was pretty happy with the result. Dee is bad, but at least she's bringing the lulz and drama with her insanity this season. All Ashley brings is a bunch of white trash boasting about how great she is until she actually has to prove it. Then she curls up in a ball and cries. Fuck her. I want her to follow Camilla and the Lavender Ladies permanently out the door. Hoping Cara never comes back too. This season has been a much more enjoyable watch without her there. They seem to have enough talent stockpiled now and plenty of people who probably want to be on there, I don't think they need to worry about catering to the Ashley's and Cara any longer. Oddly, I would welcome Paulie back in the fold in a second if he didn't come with CM attached to him.
  14. I’ve only seen Spartacus and it was pretty good. Haven’t seen the other two. It’s a “me” problem with Kubrick. To borrow a popular Surly phrase, I feel like he insists upon himself. I didn’t really enjoy all the films at the bottom except Strangelove and Clockwork. Yes, including The Shining, FMJ, and especially 2001. Kubrick is the biggest hole in my film buff resume. Chaplin and anything remotely similar from that era is another one. I’m just not a fan. Thin Red Line just made me think of another resume hole. Fucking Terrance Mallick. Talk about insisting on oneself. I feel like anyone who says they love his shit is trying to look smarter than everyone else. And it works because I just assume I’m too dumb to get him.
  15. I did too. For some reason, I watched it once and thought it was a middle of the pack QT movie. About a year ago I gave it another shot and it’s probably my #2 or 3 favorite QT movie and I’ve watched it 4 times in the past year. Watched The Lincoln Lawyer for the first time in 9 years last night. I was entertained.
  16. Um, no. The Graduate does not suck relative to anything ever put on film. You either need to watch it again and pay attention this time or learn the phrase “As great as it is, I didn’t enjoy The Graduate.” Kubrick seems like a terrible pathway to classic films. He’s as likely to send some newbie running back to Adam Sandler movies as he is to inspire them to explore other classic films. He seems more grad student level than introduction to film level. Of course, as great as he is, I don’t enjoy most Kubrick films. I’m sure that’s a me problem, but I just don’t like his movies except for Strangelove and Clockwork. And those seem like terrible starter movies.
  17. And there it is. I think those of us who are film buffs just have a hard time wrapping out heads around someone not seeing a film as amazing as The Graduate or Casablanca. But if that shit doesn't interest you and you force yourself to sit through it in the wrong frame of mind, then you non film buffs become the idiots that come on threads like this and tell us film buffs that a film like The Graduate sucks. And that shit pisses us off. So it's really better for all of us if you don't watch it until you really want to see it, which will probably be never.
  18. Some people aren't big movie fans. It is odd that he would be one of the first posts in a thread like this though.
  19. Feels like all I did was watch movies this weekend. The French Connection The Replacement Killers 21 Jump Street Once Upon A Time...In HW Hall Pass Plus 3-4 more I forgot.
  20. Pretty much sums up my thoughts. I didn't catch the secret at the end because I had pretty much checked out by then.
  21. I watched it but I refuse to discuss it.
  22. I’ve never hated anything as much as I hated Phantom. Nope, I take that back. Pancreatitis was worse. That’s the only thing worse.
