  1. GP said he won the job by throwing fewer interceptions than the other guy. Supposedly SR only threw 3 ints during all of fall camp. GP also said that he's better at getting himself out of trouble when the pass rush beats the O-line. The transfer from Penn will play in game one as well but it's Southern and GP hates to run up the score. If we're going to see him throw a pass, he probably will have to play in the 2nd quarter.
  2. Don't knock it. I'll be watching just because it's college football.
  3. Robert Duncan is a helluva guy and it was a huge mistake for Tech to let him go. This smells of politics to me. Duncan is a former state senator and has always been part of the more moderate wing of the Republican party. With the party's lurch to the hard right, I'm sure that he found himself at odds with some of the behind the scenes kingmakers like Sullivan and they engineered this based on a false pretext. Shit like this is why I left the Republican party after being a Reagan volunteer in '84 and voting in Republican primaries for over 30 years.
  4. Losing Blacklock is huge because the guy was 6'4" 330 lbs and incredibly athletic. He wasn't just a space eater in the run game like a Andrew Billings (Baylor) or Poona Ford. Blacklock was freakishly athletic for a guy his size and offenses had to double team him on passing downs which led to opportunities for the DEs and LBs to get to the QB. However, you are right to some extent. For one or two games, Gary can scheme around deficiencies on his D-Line. Our starting D-line in the Rose Bowl was Stansley Maponga, Cory Grant, DJ Yendrey and Wayne Daniels. Except for Maponga who has been a journeyman NFLer, those guys would be 3rd teamers at best on our current defense. Yet they managed to beat a Wisconsin offensive line that had two 1st round picks, a 2nd round pick, a 3rd round pick and an UDFA who has played 6 seasons (so far) in the NFL with 60 starts.
  5. That's a big one. Probably not a good fit for a country boy like McIvor but it still might be hard to turn down USC. I have a TCU buddy whose daughter goes to school there and he says there's nothing like a game day at USC.
  6. Wait, I can't see that guy's tweet? What does it say? 😉
  7. My kid is thinking about going to KU. They're offering instate tuition and a chance to get an engineering degree and an MBA in 9 semesters. Anyone have any thoughts on the positives (besides basketball) and negatives (other than sucky football) of going to KU and specifically about their engineering or business programs? TCU is an option (depending on scholarship $$) as well as UT (not top 6% though [only 6.2%]), A&M and UGa.
  8. TCU got a commit from 3* safety Josh Foster last night. Foster picked TCU over Arky, Utah and Baylor. Foster played QB and safety on Newton, Tx's 3A state championship team. He will be another small town east Texas QB to plug into GP's defense. Foster is one of three 2019 D-1 recruits from Newton and the Frogs look to be in a pretty good position with the other two as well with 100% of the crystal ball picks for 4* CB/WR Tamuzia Brown and 80% for Darwin Barlow (28th ranked RB and #53 ranked player in Tx). https://247sports.com/Player/Josh-Foster-46037136 https://247sports.com/Player/Tamauzia-Brown-94118 https://247sports.com/Player/Darwin-Barlow-46036294
  9. I guess the Ticket ain't gonna get paid for a bunch of airtime sold to these guys.
  10. And Issahaku is back on the team, at least for now. I'm not sure what is going on there.
  11. He's bitter because he's not getting any NFL looks and he doesn't think he was used in a way that would put in a better position to make the league. He apparently doesn't realize that he's 5'6" 160 lbs on a good day. I don't think this has anything to do with Gary being too hard on the players in practice. He is pretty tough on his guys but he coaches defense and mostly leaves the offense alone unless there's a turnover. I was told this by one of the offensive coaches. I think this has to do more with the kid being disappointed in his career being over and looking for someone to blame.
  12. Yep. They absolutely did. He would've been a great DE for TCU.
  13. Ridwan Issahaku is no longer on the TCU roster. He started 12 games last year and a few the year before but he didn't play in the Alamo Bowl last season. Innis Gaines started the bowl game and will take Issahaku's place. Issahaku was a very good player the last couple of years but Gaines has the potential to be an all-conference, if not all-American, quality player. I think he will be the fastest safety Patterson has ever had and he's 6'2" 205 lbs and hits like a LB.
  14. 247 has bumped Foster to a 4 star (91 rating) and the #11 RB in the nation. #233 overall. That makes him our highest ranked recruit per their rankings. Duggan (QB) also got bumped to the #3 dual threat QB in the country (up from 10 or 11). https://247sports.com/Player/Daimarqua-Foster-46050025
  15. Isn't the entire O-line back too? I actually think Tech may surprise some people this year. They will be no worse than above average at QB because of Kliff and their defense could be pretty darn good. Add a decent O-line to the mix and they could be top 4 in the conference.
  16. TCU has added Darrion Flowers to the team. Flowers committed to TCU out of Arlington Sam Houston back in 2015 but decided to focus on track and not play football. He has one year of eligibility left and will play corner and special teams. He might return some kicks. He was a really good sprinter for TCU: 6.70 in the 60M, 10.23 in the 100M, 20.69 in the 200M and a member of the TCU 4x400 relay that ran a 38.42 in the NCAA finals. I don't know if he will ever see the field as a corner after not having played since the fall of 2014 but I would like to see him return some kicks. https://247sports.com/college/tcu/Article/TCU-track-star-Darrion-Flowers-will-join-Frogs-football-team-according-to-sources-119665852/
  17. You don't want Carter. The TCU staff knows a whole lot more about him than anyone else and didn't offer. Based on what I've been told from people at Aledo, they were not sad to see him transfer.
  18. TCU gets a commit from Colt Ellison, a DE from Aledo. This is a really good pick up for the Frogs. He will be our second highest ranked commit so far. Offers from Notre Dame, Penn State, Washington, Wisconsin, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Tennessee, CU, Utah, Mizzou, Vandy, OSU, Tech and a bunch of others. https://247sports.com/player/colt-ellison-46040231
  19. I've heard nothing about TCU and Doerue for months other than he included us in his top 10. I haven't read anything to indicate he's close to making a decision.
  20. ISU got a good RB commit. Breece Hall, 6'1" 215 lbs from Wichita, KS. Offers from TCU, Iowa, Michigan, Mizzou, Nebraska, Louisville, Minnesota, Ole Miss, K State, Purdue, Rutgers and Tennessee. I'm not sure how many of those were committable but that's a solid list of offers. As far as I know, TCU's offer was committable although I think there is another prospect out there that TCU is focusing on at this time. TCU offered pretty early in the process but ISU was his first offer last November. https://247sports.com/Player/Breece-Hall-46050232
  21. A&M is throttling back their Aggieness. The % of Aggies that are hardcore "redass Ags" is becoming smaller and smaller as the university gets bigger and bigger. I would say only a fraction of the new students every year grew up wanting to be Aggies. Most are going there because it's the best school that they can get into. And, BCS may not be Austin but it's not Waco or Lubbock either and it's a traditional college town full of other college kids looking for fun and pretty much nothing else. If you're 18-22, I'm sure BCS can be fun. The kids going down there for those reasons are just as likely to make fun of the corps and yell leaders and the dog as you guys are and it's going to get worse (or better depending on your viewpoint) the bigger the school gets.
  22. Kennedy Lewis, WR from Melissa, Tx commits. Probably the top WR on TCUs board after his performance at the TCU camp recently Offers from UT, Washington, Cal, Nebraska and about a dozen other P5 schools. https://mobile.twitter.com/kennedyclewis1/status/1009225158048059392
  23. Tech had a damn good week in recruiting. They went from having only 2 commits a week ago to 9 as of today. Most of them may not have any other P5 offers but the top 4 guys are pretty nice recruits with good offer lists. https://247sports.com/college/texas-tech/Season/2019-Football/Commits/
