It kinda depends on the situation. If the DE is trying to do a spin move and the lineman blocks him with his back to him they won't call it. But if the lineman gets beat and the rusher is about to sack the QB and he pushes him in the back they sometimes call that. It's a real grey area call.
-
Yeah, Hill is usually aggressive and trusts his eyes. He was very unsure in this game. I think he was just trying to hard to make a play. Sometimes you have to trust your teammates. It happens. Hit the film room and get back at it.

I like us better against Ohio State. The Ducks offense scares me because PK doesn't have a good gameplan vs Gabriel types. He seems to get extremely passive as we saw vs Georgia and Clemson and overthinking it. A spy is all you need. Let your nuts hang on passing downs. Howard runs but he is not fast or shifty so I think PK stays aggressive for that one. If we get Ohio State then we likely win our side of the bracket and I like our chances vs the other side. If we get Oregon unless we can win in a shootout we go home.

Hill doesn't usually struggle but Klubnik is a legit run threat and I think it was in his head.

Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet
Thatguy replied to Coach pop a bitch's topic in Football
I love big behind the keyboard talkers. Guys like you already ran off one quarterback that hasn't played here in 20 years but still refuse to come back to campus. You think this level of criticism for a QB who is already number 3 in our lifetimes is normal? It's not. Not for a QB who is in back to back CFPs. You only think this is normal because its the same shit you did to Simms. The kid is out there handling it solidly. I am just telling you he can't wait to put Texas behind him and that's a shame. A person doesn't need to be someone's agent to call out shitty fans. And you sir are a shitty fan. I will make sure to tell you that face to face at the next tailgate. -
Again, absolutely no pressure from Burke. Meanwhile Simmons beats his man around the end. Moore needs to be in there on passing downs but if you get to the line quickly the defense can't sub. On the back end Manny playing tight trail but the receiver stiff arms him at the last moment and creates separation. This kept happening to him so they kept going after him. Not many receiving corps can do this to him but here we are. 7.mp4

In no huddle situations they knew what we would default to and had plays ready for those defaults based on what personnel they were showing us. It was really good prep. Lincoln Riley would've been proud. I hated that dude because he was good at offense.
-
This is the play that made a lot of people mad. 4th and 6 and we have Trey Moore on the sideline. Simmons gets free but we get no pocket pressure on the other side so all Klubnik has to do is drift away from him and buy time to throw. On the back end we are playing zone. Everyone seems to do their job except Ant seemed to be focused on what the QB is doing and loses track of the man that ran past him. TD. There are two other dudes avail in case the QB takes off. Trust your teammates. 6.mp4

Again, look at our personnel on the line. 8, 88, 99, and 95. We try a line stunt with Moore attacking the boundary side B gap to occupy the right tackle so Collins can loop around. However that is slow developing and pickup anyway. On the other side Sorrell is being double-teamed leaving Klubnik all day to throw. On the backside we are playing zone. Hard to see without the all 22 but it looks to be Cover 3 with the way Manny bails. Clemson runs a nice zone beater sending a man vertically up the seam to occupy the deep defenders, a man running a 5 yard out to occupy Guilbeau's eyes, and then sneaking a 15 yard out behind them. This is a big boy throw here. 15 yard out from the opposite hash. NFL scouts will be watching this one. Again, it's second and 10 and we get caught with our run stopping package in. 5.mp4
-
We are in a bear front with 5 down linemen expecting them to run because they have 12 personnel(two tight ends) in the game. Another bad package for what Clemson is trying to do. Collin Simmons is a LB in this package and responsible for dropping into coverage. The actual front as far as rushers go is Burke, Lole, Norton, and Broughton. As you can imagine that is a horrible 4 for pass rushing. Clemson is targeting the LBs. They run 9 up the seam to occupy the safety. 11 on the sideline to pull Manny. The back then runs the numbers and Ant gets caught making sure the QB is staying home and the back runs right by him......touchdown. Ant got caught in conflict a lot in this game. 4.mp4
-
So fine example of us getting caught in bad packages. We fire the nickel with our best pass rusher, Collin Simmons, being responsible for the back if he leaks out for a route. That leaves Collins, Lole, and Burke left rushing the passer after Guilbeau, who is not good at blitzing, is easily picked up by the LT. That is a good package at stopping the run. Horrible for pass rushing though and Clemson easily walls it off here. Clemson goes to 6'6 240lb Jake Briningstool here, who is a physical mismatch for Manny Muhammed. Their receiver coach is really good with the details because all these guys use subtle pushing to get a little space when the ball is in the air. Manny probably has never seen that on a regular basis in his career. Live and learn. 3.mp4
-
This is just absolutely monstrous route running. Manny Muhammed is never heard from in games for a reason. That reason is he is really good and sticky in coverage and quarterbacks just don't want to test him. However, he is a guy who plays the man instead of a guy who plays the ball like Barron does. He has good hips and feet and it's hard to lose him in coverage. So when you do throw it his way he is watching the receiver to see when the ball arrives so he can attack the catch area. To beat him you need to be able to get separation. Watch one Bryant Wesco Jr here. Fires off the line and sells the outside release like its a fade. When he gets Manny's hips turned he chops his route down and turns creating separation. Against Manny that's not enough because Manny has the feet to recover. However, instead of sitting and waiting on the ball to get to him Wesco comes back and attacks the football, preventing him from recovering and breaking it up. Just top notch route running that you don't see every week. This kid is good. Take note of the helmet. Never a tell that the ball is headed his way until it's actually in his hands. 2.mp4

I apologize for the video. I couldn't find a full game copy anywhere so had to rip a few plays. @Dahobbswas explaining a little bit of this to a fellow poster. ZSo thanks to him for getting the ball rolling. Let's get this out of the way right now. For those of you that didn't think Dabo was a good coach we just all fucked around and found out on Sat-ur-dee. Ole ball coach played us like a fiddle. They had a lovely opening script capped off with a double pick that we actually helped with but we will get to that in a minute. They got on the board first and then Sark and PK proceeded to drag their balls on Clemson's facemask by going on a 31-3 run. The offense did it's thing but PK's defense settled in and stymied the Clemson offense. However Dabo, as championship coaches do, found something. He sped up their offense when he got the right defensive personnel on the other side. Two things that did. We lost our pass rush because the guys caught in the game aren't the type that gets pressure. Second, when a defense is sped up they scrap the exotics and stick to simplistic defensive schemes like man v man or basic zone schemes. So by doing that they could slow our pass rush and manipulate our secondary. To do that your coaches have to be pretty savvy and have a QB with full command of the passing offense. So we shouldn't see that too often so we can all relax. If we do then PK is a dumb ass for falling for the same trick twice. So let's get into it shall we? I mean what the hell were the refs looking at here. First thing first I am wondering if this was a mistake by our secondary here to start. I know we are in man but instead of letting the routes tell us which man we are taking Barron and Guilbeau cross streams and allow the TE/Barron route to pick Guilbeau. The TE is literally blocking Barron well past the five yard mark for a pass that is being thrown past the line of scrimmage. Guilbeau is already out of position only to be physically blocked a second time, again for a pass thrown past the line. To miss an illegal pick once is bad but two times on the same play? Come on refs. 1.mp4

Yeah I don't get that at all

I tried to watch them play but it's hard to find a comparable opponent. Did you see one that you thought was a good watch?

@immamac is a solid dude. You should've said hello.

Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet

The ONLY reason we are not celebrating QE's time here is because a guy with the name MANNING is behind him. That's it. Dude is the 3rd winningest quarterback to play here in my lifetime. It's a shame that he will leave here being unwelcome to come back when we have no idea if the dude behind him can fill his shoes. That is a weird situation to be in. -

5 yards isn't that far away. A lower trajectory ends with us coming to the Quinn thread and bitching about another tipped ball interception. Always best to avoid that if possible. Also, this fanbase should know more than any other fanbase that grumblings reach far and wide and end up affecting the team directly. Confidence is everything in sports. Everyone has 10 fingers and 10 toes. What separates the good ones is mental. Nothing you can do worse to a player than kill their confidence. I can tell you from behind the scenes that Quinn is not having a good time here. The backup QB can do no wrong at all as far as the fans are concerned. No one appreciates the guy even though he could go down as the best QB in our lifetimes depending on what happens the rest of the way. That has to be mentally exhausting. Dude is coming up on a lot of records even though dude has only played 3 years and missed games each year. People are ready to push him out even though the dude has played in two conference championships, won one, is in his second straight playoff and has every chance to win the NC. Crazy to think about. -
I think Oregon might have something to say about who has the best receivers. Those dudes can fly.
-
Clemson's receivers were a known commodity prior to playing us. It was well known who we were going to have to deal with and sure as shit they pantsed the shit out of our DBs. But just looking at skill. They left their feet a lot. They caught with their hands, not basket-catching everything. That isn't just a they played well against us thing. They were good and physically dominated out DBs.

This is the statement I don't get right here. We played Georgia last game and we ran for 58 yards at 2.6 yards per carry as far as backs are concerned. Clemson ran for 71 at over 6 yards per carry as far as backs are concerned. Their offense barely had any penalties and as a team they had 5 for 65 yards. Our offense had quite a few holding calls and as a team we had 11 for 94 yards. Klubnik operates out of a sideline to sideline, QB friendly, 4 wide offense, with better receivers than we have that simply just doesn't run the ball much. Quinn operates out of a ball control offense that asks him to save us in long yardage situations after it gets itself in trouble not being able to run. These are the 3rd down situations for both QBs. We won't put names on them. 3rd and 3 3rd and 1 3rd and 3 3rd and 2 3rd and 4 3rd and 3 3rd and 4 3rd and 4 3rd and 5 3rd and 5 3rd and 5 3rd and 6 3rd and 5 3rd and 7 3rd and 9 3rd and 7 3rd and 10 3rd and 7 3rd and 10 3rd and 14 3rd and 14 3rd and 15 3rd and 14 3rd and 16 3rd and 15 3rd and 15 3rd and 17 3rd and 22 3rd and 26 3rd and 27 6-18 rate 3-12 rate Which list performed better on 3rd down? 6-18 is Quinn. Given the situations and what kind of offenses they both operate in, how do you come to such a wildly different conclusion? If we don't drop a TD pass and miss two field goals Klubnik scored 24 and Ewers scores 29. Both against relatively equal defenses. Klubnik threw for 332 and Quinn for 358. Then you can go back and look at how Klubnik performed vs Georgia. 18-29 142 yards and 1 interception. They had 66 yards rushing and were 4-14 on 3rd downs scoring 3 points total. 3 total points. I honestly don't get it. From my perspective I saw TWO quarterbacks who didn't play perfect, but both were doing everything they could to keep their team in it. You other guys see one guy who played great and the other guy who played shitty even though the output is roughly the same. -

Look at the post below. Quinn has to throw the ball over a free rusher to get it to Blue but instead of seeing that and praising Quinn for a good throw under pressure we are talking about how he nearly fucked it up. Just like you. Some of us just see the game differently. You wanna know why my kid is a soon to be D1 athlete? Because I see the positives and encourage her confidence. You guys are busy tearing down a guy who is the number 3 QB here in our lifetimes and could be two or one depending how this season finishes. -
Clemson has the 3rd best receiver corps in the playoff behind Ohio State and Oregon. I am not sure why us people around here don't wanna give credit where credit is due. They are superior to us in this regard. They had 3 guys out there making Golden level catches.

I explained the play to someone that didn't know what happened. No one said Quinn played perfect. That is your expectation not mine. -

Our quarterback throws the ball away all the time too so what are we going on about? A single rpo where he tried to run but decided not to have a go at the defender? Let's move on.
