Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet
Thatguy replied to Coach pop a bitch's topic in Football
Lol. Quarterback play matters. Ask LSU. They've been loaded on both sides of the ball for decades besides a signal caller. When they had a decent one they won. We've been exactly as good as the QBs we've had here. -
See that's the thing little guy. I don't run around spending pages dragging down ANY player, especially not the best quarterback we've had here since 2009. I am thankful to have good players again. I am thankful to be relevant again. I understand a simple fact that you don't. If a player has certain limitations, expecting him to be something he is not is on you the spectator, not him the player. It's been long established that Quinn cannot run and cannot throw the deep ball. Anyone who is still pissed about those things three years later is an idiot. Also, if the coach is still putting the player in positions to fail then you need to be looking at the coach and not the player. You don't trot Blue out there to punch it in on the 1. That's not in his skillset. Next year there will be things that Arch struggles with. I will quickly shrug my shoulders and move on. You will be calling for {enter in a name} to come in and take over because you saw said player do something vs a directional school so that means it will work vs Georgia. You guys are nothing if not predictable. Now someone quote this so ignore boy can see it since he posted and ran.

I'm still tripping on your examples being two games where we scored a combined 73 points to our opponents combined 3 in the first half 🤣😂. Of all the games to choose.
-
Those games are the examples you are using???
-
OSU plays like that all the time if you've watched them. They play that inverted Tampa look where Downs is just a rover doing whatever the fuck he feels like all game. That's why I said going in on the other thread you have to count him as a box player. But we played all season and largely couldn't stuff down teams throats when they showed us safeties deep vs heavy run personnel. It wasn't until ASU that we saw 8-9 man boxes.
-
Since you called me an arrogant jackass now I am really going to be one. Your sample size of loaded boxes are two, Ohio State and ASU. We played a shit ton of other games where we couldn't dominate running the football against a regular box even though we were heavy 12 personnel. Arkansas rolled out with a 3-3-5 flyover. Three down linemen all game long and all we got on them was 139 yards rushing. If you are worth a shit at all in the run game and there is a Longhorn emblem on the side of your helmet, you line up in 12 personnel and run them out of that flyover. We walked out there in 12 personnel and couldn't get them to commit any extra numbers in the box. @Had Enough, the whole point of a balanced attack is to not allow a defense to gang up on any one part of your offense. Just as your passing game needs to take pressure off your running game, your running game needs to take pressure off of your passing game. If teams are still able to keep your running game under control with deep safeties when you trot out in 12 personnel then your running game isn't doing it's job. Simple as that. 4th quarter of the Arkansas game and they are facing off with your 12 personnel with a 6 man box. Not even fucking worried about it at all. You are a Blue Blood and they are treating your running game like you are Middle Tenn. All they are worried about here is stopping the passing game. You've spent 3.5 quarters of football and can't even run a 6-6 team out of this look. 7 helmets across and they aren't even worried about getting out-flanked with a 3 man front. Got-damn shame is what it is. Anyone who lines up like this vs a competent run game should get bludgeoned to the tune of 300 yards.
-
Dude it is clear your eyes aren't seeing the problems in the run game by how you post. Our problems in the run game have shit to do with second and 3rd level players. Georgia defeated us at the line. They would shift to a 50 front sometimes with a single backer behind them. They understood that by preventing double teams we couldn't win at the LOS. When we ran OZ someone would get pushed in the backfield forcing the back to cut back into the flow. Their DE would stack up the playside end and shut down any possibility of it working. A lineman was always losing the battle and blowing the play up. We were losing fights with light or equal boxes. ASU was the only one loading up the box on us. Most of the additional box defenders was because we have a love affair with bunch sets, so we invite 12 extra people in the box too. You don't have to be dominant in the run game, just outrush your opponent in a game like OSU or Georgia. Be creative running the football. Call some QB leads. Any QB with two legs can run that for a couple. Use your TEs to help get the playside DE's shoulders turned so you can prevent them from stacking up the line flow in OZ. If you run ACE out of pistol you can run it to whichever side you have the DE covered without tipping your hand. Then boot off of that look to keep teams honest. We rarely moved the pocket, but when we did it was effective. We never really ran the ole Aaron Rodgers boot off of the stretch play. We didn't do much to affect the opposing D-line's aiming points at all. Our lack of rushing is our own fucking fault and it has shit all to do with the quarterback. We run a lot of sets but run a pretty small amount of shit off of them. Once you understand that as a defense you can defend us fairly well. That, my friend, is why Steve Sarkisian didn't make it in the NFL. Too much cutesy shit and not enough down and dirty simple problem solving. Next year you are going to see the same issues unless Sark has a come to Jesus moment in the offseason. We have to stop talking about those Bama teams that literally had no flaws offensively.

I said Jones was better than Williams and was laughed at. I thought it was weird in the moment that people couldn't see that. If Jones is playing vs OSU we might be talking about how we should beat ND.

Because you don't get it. Your lack of understanding of the razor thin margin for success given the situation says you've never been in anything like that. There is no understanding with you guys. At all. He throws it away he is ass. He tucks and falls he is ass. He tries to run and gets tackled at the 5 he is ass. The moment Cam Williams did what he did the season was over unless by some miracle Quinn got an accurate pass off just before he got hit. He tried and failed. It is what it is. The problem is blaming the QB for failing in a near impossible situation than why the situation happened in the first place. You are the guy who blames the person who didn't avoid the wrong way driver on the highway. You are the guy who blames the sexual assault victim for how she was dressed. You are the guy who blames the parents for naming their kid Tyrone because his application got thrown in the trash as soon as they read it. Blaming the driver who got T-boned while passing through a green light. Blaming the security guard for getting shot in a robbery. Now I know you well enough to know you aren't that guy but you see how this is the same right? -

He had 2 1000's after the snap to get rid of the ball. Go count them. You cannot throw this ball short of the end zone. There are two free defenders guarding the EZ. You throw this ball to Golden and he is tackled short. It's 4th down. Ball has to go to the EZ. -
All three games that we lost, we lost both the rushing and sack battles. That's all you need to know. We have a guard and center who cannot hold up in the run game on one side, and we have a guard and tackle who cannot hold up in the pass blocking on the other. We have a single lineman who can do both. I said this in the Ewers thread but people saw it as an apology for Ewers. Think about it. Almost everything bad that happens in the passing game happens on the right side. Since it's fresh in our memories Campbell fell down and Sawyer came through the gap and batted a ball. We all saw the Cam Williams last play. When Arch was in there vs Georgia and got stripped it was off the right side. So it's not whether or not the QB can run, it's competent line play or not. In the end the right side of the line bit us again. Even Quandre Diggs is calling it out. If the line play is even remotely better we win both Georgia games and we are playing next week.
-
Def agree with you 100% and it's worse than that. The backs can't run through arm tackles, the TE's cannot block, and we also have an obsession with receivers who are DB size and smaller who cannot hold up blocking on the edge. Couple that with how much we like to run bunch sets and you get what you see every week. The goalline play with Golden as an example, Bond every week, and why Bolden cannot get on the field with regularity. Last year we could at least block on the edge because we had physical receivers, and the combo of Helm and Sanders was better than Davis and Helm. We just do not have the tools to run what Sark wants to run. We took the best portal players but not good fits. Bond, Bolden, and Golden are all slot receivers in the league.
-
You can get away with IZ with less than ideal blocking if your backs can get their own yards. We had those kinds of backs in the past. Now we do not. Regardless. Go back and watch us run it against anyone with a pulse. And remember that was against a Big12 schedule.
-
Because we lack the interior to move people. In IZ we cannot climb to the second level to create lanes. What ends up happening is we combo block and then the guys get stoned leaving their LBs free to make plays. This has been an issue for all the time Majors has been here. It starts with him, and then Conner. If either one of them can hold up on a solo then we can reach the second level.

Some of you are flat fucking retarded. Cam Williams didn't even slow the guy down. Ewers never had a chance. -
Do whatever they allow amiright? That is because they don't have a Majors and Conner getting displaced backwards some yards every snap. *Looks to see if he is in the Quinn Ewers thread* People around here think that shit is normal but it's not. The scariest thing for a QB is a shrinking the pocket from the front. You can't tell anyone around here shit though. Glad you see the space and windows Will Howard had all night. That's what it is supposed to look like. We aren't going to do shit around here until our line is right. We have to be able to run the ball. Asking your QB to throw for 300 yards every game is not a recipe for success.
-
I think we have had such bad line play for so long we forgot what good line play looked like. Will Howard had a ridiculous amount of time to throw the football. We couldn't get to him without some tricks. Same thing with Clemson. Our line still has a ways to go to be that consistent.

I know one thing, Sam would be able to bulldoze his way into the endzone from the 1 given 4 tries. Also, the defense would have the respect him running and playing accordingly. Something they didn't have to do with Quinn. Not to mention, he can escape pressure and a play isn't dead just because of pressure like Quinn. But, now here me out now, he can't throw the fucking football. Lol. You know, the main part of the job. It's like y'all forgot what Sam was really like. -
Their D-line and O-line were better than our D-line and O-line.
-
Imagine writing this about Arch's play. He played in two games and came in for two series vs Georgia and looked worse than the starting QB. If you think a QB is going to save you when you run for 20-60 yards every week you are in for a big surprise. Ohio State busted that run with their QB on a designed QB run. I am not sure I have ever seen Sark call QB Power. Bottom line, the team that runs the football better wins these games. The three times we've lost this year have all been when we lost the rushing battle. Y'all are looking in the wrong location.

You are a coach. You have a pocket passer. it's 4th down and everyone knows you have to throw it. One of your tackles is a turnstile. Do something to help him. Chip him. Keep someone in to help. What you cannot do is ask your worst pass blocker to 1v1. He got by him so fast that Q never had a chance. He was on him before Helm go to the EZ on a 7 yard route. That's what you aren't seeing. There are plenty of QBs in the league that can't run. Playcallers know this and help them out in situations like that. Quinn has proven he can do it if you buy him some time. I'm off to bed. -

Here is what's going to happen. QE is going to go to the league and play well. Next year you guys will finally see what's going on. -

Think about what your dumb ass just said. Pull it down and do what? It's 4th down. Pull it down and run for it? That's a long 10 yard run with all eyes on him. He has to throw there. -

Quinn throws well on the move. The fact that you are blaming that Cam Williams play on the quarterback shows how you think. On a play like that you cannot let tht happen. Tackle the motherfucker if you have to, but to get walked by and barely get a hand on him? How do you NOT fumble in the middle of your throwing motion? -

Cam Williams literally just let Saywer walk past him and barely got a hand on him. Go back and rewatch the play. Count one one thousand. This will be the last thing I am going to say about all this. All year we ran ineffectively when we played anyone with a pulse defensively. Then we asked the QB to bail us out on pass rush downs all year long. The last series was a microcosm of the season. Ineffective running caused by a combination of bad execution and bad playcalling. Followed by asking your immobile QB to bail you out while doing nothing to slow the pass rush. We deserved to lose there.
