  1. Trump and MAGA saying Harris is not Black. Black people are like........ She went to one of the Blackest schools in the US and is an AKA, the oldest Black sorority in the country. https://wjla.com/news/local/members-of-alpha-kappa-alpha-celebrate-as-senator-kamala-harris-makes-history
  2. I've been seeing these "If you think Kamala Harris is African American you must be stupid" posts. I have something to say to those people. That meme will never work. You can't take away someone's black experience by regurgitating where her parents are from. One thing black people understand is where her parents are from never stopped her from getting called black racial slurs growing up. Nor did it stop them from calling her a DEI hire, or questioning her intellect. As long as she has had to go through the same experiences all the other black people in this country went through we are going to see her as one of our own. All memes like that serve to do is show how much middle aged white men are disconnected with the black community and what it means to be black. My daughter is Chinese, White, and Black. Her eyes are more Asian, and her features are more White. However at her school she gets called the N word all the time and has had to deal with all the same racism I did. If she ever ran for office those same Trumpers would say she isn't black.
  3. I forgot about Fields. We played against Cugino. In my opinion she is alright, but she plays for Mintonette so you know how that goes. The problem is defensive players all look the same. So you really have to sit down and watch them play. From the inside what we've realized is that these recruiters are lazy and disorganized. For example, my daughter is being recruited by a school on the West Coast. The assistant in charge of recruiting calls and sets up a zoom call. Then the coach calls to set up a call not knowing the assistant already set up the zoom call. At that point my daughter is looking at them sideways. Liberos and DS are usually the last to get recruited. So Texas grabbing a libero in the 26 cycle a month after June 15th seems like old Elliott when he was lazy with his defensive recruits. I don't remember anything special when we played them. We lost(they are a good team) but my kid was putting balls down like she normally does. Now we've been playing Anderson for years, and you remember when you play against her. Skilled kid for her size for sure.
  4. The problem for other schools is that the state of Texas has so much talent. All Texas needed to do is win one title and they would get the pick of the state and let everyone else fight over the scraps. Then we get the kids who are at quality programs but wanna come home to Texas to finish out their careers. The 26's are a pretty interesting group. My kid's region is chock full of talent. Henley Anderson, Jayden Robinson(Nebraska), and (Halle Thompson)Wisky are not only all kids we play club ball against, but that we see regularly in school ball too. Most schools can only take 3 a cycle, but I have a feeling that at least one of those other two will end up playing for burnt orange when its all said and done. For those in the Houston area Ridge Point has crazy vball talent. Not only is Reagan Rutherford from there, but Jayden Robinson(Wisconsin), Shaun Rogers kid Kennedi Rogers(SMU), Texans DT Wade Smith's daughter Aaliyah Smith(Rice), her older sister Alissa who went there is at Miss St, Taylor Johnson(Iowa State), not to mention other kids headed to smaller D1 schools. How they don't win state every year is beyond me.
  5. I keep getting text messages from this mfer. Evidently I am a loyal conservative and he appreciates it.
  6. My feed is full of guys I know who swear Biden set this up.
  7. You met my wife and you are the same height. Our poor kid is quite a bit taller than her and made this same comment. She(16) says all the boys lie about their height. She says being a volleyball player, boys will say they are 5'10 and she will just laugh. She said their usual response is to suggest she is much taller than she thinks she is. There are worse lies that boys tell about measurements.
  8. No disrespect but I hate this line. So many people say that. Per capita its not close, and those are just the ones we know about. Many shooting fly right under the radar.
  9. Let's replace the Ray Liotta laughing gif shall we?? You are welcome!!
  10. If my FB is any indication the blacks, gays, and wimmen folk seem to be gearing up for war. Only the Trumpy type wimmenz are quiet. Sample size 800. The "I'm with her" posts seem to be all that's on my feed.
  11. and a lot of people are going to vote for her because they want a woman to finally be prez. Best believe she is going full undertaker on Roe. I am curious to see how this plays out. I can see it being a wash for either depending on how the speeches go as we pedal down the road.
  12. So full circle on the name then?
  13. June 15th I was awakened by a screaming newly minted 16 yr old girl. I jumped up to see what all the drama was and she had gotten her first of 6 emails from schools setting up calls for potential volleyball scholarships. Seeing her so excited was all a dad needs. She has worked hard to get here. Questioned whether she was good enough many times along the way. However, her efforts and talent was validated! She can hold her head high knowing her hard work is paying off.
  14. It's Friendswood. The mom was probably helping the kids bully another kid.
  15. Maybe you guys don't know any former NFL guys but the ones i know that went broke did so because they had too many people with their hand out or asking them to bankroll some business they didnt know how to run or was a bad idea from the start. The only athletes I know that went broke behind cars and jewelry were people who were barely in the league in the first place.
  16. You don't go broke from cars and jewelry. Hood dudes who just fell into some money just can't go buy the kind of cars that break the bank, and those chains are 30-100k. Buying houses that are too much for you, giving money to hangers-on, investing in bad business ventures, and betting on lane 8 in how you go broke. 20 million goes a long way if you live in a 500k house with a bunch of entry level exotic cars and a few chains.
  17. I hear people say this but it is always followed with a "but look where that got me". I never believe they ever voted dem.
  18. Certain schools have a certain philosophy in recruiting. Nebraska and the rest of the Big 10 like the biggest girls they can get. Texas likes them to be athletic over tall, though they are pretty tall, just not Big 10 tall. The usual suspects get the pick of the litter, then the rest of the P5 schools go next, and the small conferences go last. Some of the small schools get good players because of the region they are in. Texas is number 1 in prep vball, Cali and Florida are next. So if you are an undersized kid you steer clear of those areas. However, you look at the Northeast and other areas and there are tons of D1 kids under 6ft. You just have to ignore those big schools and leave the great state of Texas and scholarships are waiting. Us olds think of things the wrong way. We wanted a college experience so we went here blah blah blah. It's 2024. I explained it my daughter like this when her coach got a letter from the coaches at Wake Forest asking about her. I said being a collegiate athlete is extremely difficult. That said, Wake is 65k a year. Where are you going to get a job making 65k while in college?
  19. Speaking from my experience with my kid, in this era you have to spend money on your kid just to find out if your kid even has the chops to play at the high school level much less college. Where we live all the kids on the school teams play some sort of club/select/aau ball. My kid barely made the 7th grade b team. Had we just thrown our hands in the air and not kept going with instructions and lessons she wouldn't be where she is. In volleyball, a parent has to keep a keen eye as to what is going on. Your kid can have talent but be playing out of position and end up getting washed out early. For example, our kid was playing middle blocker when she was 12, but wasn't going to be tall enough to play that position in high school. The club "needed her" to play that position( didn't care that she wasn't right for it long term), but we recognized it wasn't going to be for her and went to another club. She made the top team over there and then the first club saw what she looked like playing her new position and offered her free tuition to come back. By this time she is playing 15s(freshman in high school) and we can see she has the talent to play in college so we keep going. Despite what you guys are saying, that is the time that parents with kids who don't have the talent to play collegiate sports fall off. The kids start dropping out of the sport, and the 16/17/18s age groups at the club have less teams. Now she is likely a few months from signing a letter and she just turned 16 this month. I said all that to say this. Had we thrown our hands up in the air at the first sign of difficulty she wouldn't be where she is. Along the way we've seen a lot of kids fall by the wayside who would've been good if they had supportive parents. We have been accused of being THOSE parents, both here and in real life. However, now that she is officially being recruited those accusations look a little stupid. Even if she decided she didn't want to keep going the life lessons she has learned through sports and the travel experiences are something that will stick with her forever.
  20. Man, listen to all of you guys. Just like not all these kids are going to play D1 sports, not all the kids are going to be at the top of their class academically either. No matter how hard you push them if they aren't driven academically they will fall short the same way if they aren't driven athletically. You have to see what kind of kid you have and respond accordingly. If you have a kid who excels academically then go for it. However, if you have a kid who is NOT going to be at the top of the food chain academically what do you do? Idle hands right? To some people keeping their kid too busy to get in trouble far outweighs the monetary loss, not to mention the life lessons one learns along the way. We happen to have the kid who is among the small percentage that can play a D1 sport. She is a solid student, but isn't at the top of her class. Her athletic ability is opening doors to colleges she couldn't otherwise get into. Some of those schools are pretty expensive annually and far exceed the amount of money we've spent on club sports. My wife and I know the grind. We also know not owing 200k+ is a good way to kick off her life. We would much rather give her that money to buy a home.
