  1. A few lingering questions:
  2. Nope, you made a blanket statement about how the limiting factor for Thompson declaring early would be his lack of experience. You were given plenty of examples how this is wrong. If you feel like Thompson isn't a risk to declare because of his measurables you should have probably said that. You wouldn't have gotten any pushback on that. The point everyone is pushing back against is the experience part.
  3. Like historically great Mitch Trubisky? Who can forget his storied career at *checks notes* North Carolina. Can't wait for the 30 for 30. I don't think Casey Thompson leaves after this season but mainly because he doesn't have NFL measurables. QBs with limited experience declare early after moderately successful seasons all the time.
  4. Yeah of course, having lots of good options at one position is a good thing. It's just that typically a transfer creates depth via a knockdown effect. The transfer automatically goes into the 2-deep and the guys behind him who would have been there are now quality depth. A guy who's good enough to be a drastic rb3 upgrade is probably looking to transfer somewhere with a clear path to playing time. Not always, if Robinson wants in that's exciting and good for the team. When Ingram transferred the collective response was somewhere between a shrug and "good riddance" even though he would have been objectively good depth. It doesn't square to act like we now have a desperate need to add another guy at the position who probably won't be as good as Ingram is.
  5. Hook'em Paxton. I'd be proud as hell if my daughters grow up to have this kind of courage in their convictions.
  6. Assuming he's not totally asleep at the wheel, I wonder who Jimbo is keeping warm in case that happens. Maybe circle back on Klubnik but he's probably a tough pull if Clemson wants to keep him.
  7. It's funny that posters continue to argue if a position group doesn't have an established all-conference level player at 3rd & 4th on the depth chart that means depth is a huge problem. And it can be fixed by simply adding a big time transfer who's happy to come and be the "in case of emergency" 3rd stringer.
  8. I don't really give a shit if either one of them are official heisman winners, but if they stripped it from Bush shouldn't Johnny's be forfeited as well?
  9. Has he? That seems like his preference but I thought he was a bit more open than that. Maybe it was mostly coach speak but Sark talked playing him both ways and I thought Sanders was pitched on his experience doing that with guys: I guess if you want to overanalyze things (fuck it-it's the offseason) number 3 gives him the option to come into the game in pass rushing situations while being primarily a TE (without having to do the awkward jersey change thing on the sideline). Surprisingly we don't have a '3' on defense after Green left. Of course it's pretty unlikely that he'll be effective enough in that role as a true freshman while spending the majority of practice in the TE room.
  10. Ha, same here. I was late to the party but said fuck it and bought some AMC at $13 in late January. Now I have no clue at what point to go ahead and cash out on them. This isn't really my thing, before now my market investments have just been periodic ETF buys that are more long term plays. Of course the reddit subs say you're a paper hands idiot if you sell your AMC at anything less than 500K but it's tough to take investment advice from people that communicate mainly in memes.
  11. The whole segment is just as dumb as you’d expect, but at least watch the first 6 seconds. Great save Tucker!
  12. https://www.avclub.com/oh-great-ellie-kemper-is-yet-another-rich-white-celebr-1847010681 I don't know that this is getting any traction, but this one is pretty stupid right? Participating in a debutant ball as a teenager in 1999 isn't exactly the same thing as having a plantation wedding in 2021. Of course maybe I'm just being defensive because my mom made participate in one of these things when I was a kid. I don't know that it has a problematic history for sure and haven't looked it up but...it was in Tyler, the girls wore white dresses and the dudes had to wear tails. I'm sure historically it was pretty racist. It never crossed my dumb teenage mind at the time though.
  13. I clicked on this thread thinking that the topic was referring to him being reinstated on Twitter by August. I'm honest to god relived it was just referring to the presidency.
  14. So if Dele had been offered by USC but decided he wants to return to Texas he's no longer a quitter and should be welcomed back into the program. You really don't see how that is stupid? The only important factor is whether or not he's good enough to contribute to Texas on the field, like I said.
  15. You're going to have to walk me through the difference I guess. Ovie enters the transfer portal and transfers to Texas so he's not a quitter, Texas should be happy to have him and he's disappointing loss for ND. Had Ovie entered the transfer portal, decides not to transfer and wants to continue to play for ND, Notre Dame should tell him to kick rocks. He is a quitter.
  16. I hope you aren't conflicted about cheering for Ray Thornton, Ovie Oghoufo, and Darrian Dunn this season. Hell, Brendon Schooler has transferred from more than 1 school, he's a serial quitter I guess. I don't care to have Adeoye back mainly because I don't think he's good enough to play at Texas. The quit on the team thing is silly.
  17. The lull is due to a lot of factors and things could feel completely different two months from now once the staff has a chance connect with players in person. Part of having a reputation as a great recruiter is blowing prospects away on these visits. I'm not sure you can attribute much to the staff disappointing or Sark not being a splashy enough hire. Not yet anyway. I think this was discussed a while ago but you can't underestimate that Sarkisian is walking in to a tougher situation than Herman was on the recruiting front. A&M is coming off one of the best seasons and their history and their hype rollercoaster is firmly ticking up where Herman had the lame duck portion of Sumlin and Fisher's transition to recruit against. At OU Lincoln had some hype but was unproven as a HC where now he has a few heismen trophy winners, number one overall picks, playoff appearances and all the Big12 titles. All while OSU and Alabama have increased their TX foothold. Factor in that now Texas is even further removed from being in title contention and has another failed coaching hire for schools to negatively recruit. The state is bloodbath for recruiting top guys right now. None of that to say that Sark can't and shouldn't recruit really well this year, but the context is just different than when Herman had a top 3 class. It really magnifies Tom's failure even more because he had a real opportunity that he fucked up. Sarkisian and crew may have to be twice as good at recruiting to end up with the same results.
  18. I mean, you’ve gone from “we’re fucked” to “we’re fucked”. So at least personally for you the whiplash is manageable.
  19. For real, KP was a ghost tonight and I’m underwhelmed by him in general but the thread needs to step back from the ledge a bit. Up 2-1 and the series is still ours for the taking. Maybe slow down on blowing the whole thing up for Jokic pipe dreams until we are at least facing an elimination game?
  20. Hmm, would be cool if it was a new Texas commitment but I bet he’s announcing playing football at some private school. Hopefully not IMG.
  21. The way I look at the Arkansas game is, if you have it circled as a possible loss, I think the only way you got there is because you think Sark wasn't a good hire. And that is a perfectly defensible position (even though not one I agree with). Trying to temper expectations by playing up how perfectly average they are, our learning curve in picking new schemes, breaking in a new qb, or whatever else are just excuses. An Arkansas loss would be a major red flag for Sark's future success here and any justifications made after the fact would just feel like Maryland (2x) all over again.
  22. I confused you in my original post by fucking up and saying Arkansas would only be higher than Tech and Baylor. They would only be higher than Tech and Kansas, Baylor scored better last year in the S&P+. So 9/11. I agree the 2020 models will be flawed but it's fine to get a general idea of the relative strength of teams. Arkansas was a below average team last year no matter how you look at them unless that "SEC" patch just scares you to death.
  23. Yep, noticed that mistake and edited. If you are 9th out of 11 it puts you at around the bottom 20% percentile or so (not a math major). Just how wide is your middle of the road?
  24. It's reasonable to project them to get better this year, but they would have been a lower tier Big XII team just like they were lower tier SEC. https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ncaa/fplus/2020 72nd overall in S&P+, would be good for 9th in the Big XII, only better than Tech and Kansas.
