  1. This is insane. I bet that boulder weights what? 5000 lbs? I would immediately start folding up my tent and getting the hell out of there. Not a wink of sleep would be had by me after seeing that.
  2. Finally finished the Reality Dysfunction. It was an absolute SLOG at times (I started it in July and kept getting bogged down) but the last 1/3 really picked up and I've not started the sequel: I'm going this one as an audiobook though because I have a lot of driving to do in the next month. It's 40+ hours long ... yikes.
  3. I played Falconhead for the first time last week with @Horn21. It was a great course. I didn't score for shit (I'm blaming the fact that I'm 1/2 way through a swing renovation), but it was tons of fun. It's the typical deal, there were a few great shots that always keep me coming back. We teed of a 2p and I thought we'd have a chance to make it around before dark, being a Tuesday afternoon and all, but we ran out of light with 4 holes left. Not worries tho, Horn21 to the rescue with light up golfballs. We finished 18 in complete/utter darkness. It was a blast, I'd like to do it again soon.
  4. I agree that Leach is very highly unlikely to go back to LBK regardless of how much money they throw at him. I can see a situation however, where some surprising dollars are thrown at a more proven talent than a coordinator getting his first time HC or a young HC stepping up from a small school to P5. I'm told the reason that KK kept his job as long as he did is that a small group of alums (including some of KK's former teammates) who have made a lot of money in oil & gas told the AD that they would make a $10MM/year contribution to the athletic department as long as KK is the head coach. If he were to be fired, that annual donation would go away. Obviously that changed now. That group alone could make a sizable dent into the new coaching staff's salaries, even a very elite/proven coach.
  5. But the defenses give the warm-fuzzies
  6. Well fuck-sandwiches we have a new game
  7. Shit, I guess we hope the pussy takes two losses in a row (to us)
  8. “... And zero defense was played”
  9. don't want to bring any extra fuel into the fire ... duh!
  10. The mission is to get the family (and occasionally a few friends) to all points Texas and Colorado. I have annual trips to the east and west coast, but I don't imagine the plane I can afford would get us there in an acceptable time, so I'm striking it from my wish list for now. The budget is a bit fluid, I could go with a newer/nice c182 will glass cockpit, or an older piper malibu mirage for about the same price. Also in the running is a bonanza B36TC. - I like the 182 for the low time/glass cockpit. - I like the Mirage because it flies high, is pressurized, fast, and has a decently high useful load - I like the Bonanza because it's fast and had a moderately high useful load Annual budget/fixed cost is going to be close to the same for all of those planes (I believe, although the cessna will be a bit lower on the annual)
  11. There is a tsunami of private equity backed E&Ps in the Permian that are looking for an exit in the next couple of years, and the process just repeats. Medium fish eat small fish, and big fish eat medium fish. This will continue until all the decent acreage is consolidated into ten or so companies.
  12. I just finished the Quantum Magician . Great read, lots of hard science mixed with pretty compelling ensemble of characters trying to pull of a hell of a job. looking forward to the next one
  13. Any aircraft owners here? I'm starting to get quasi serious about purchasing a first airplane and I soliciting strangers on the internet for advice about the 2nd most expensive liability asset I will own. Has anyone had a partner(s) in a plane before? How was it? How did it work? Anyone here a part of a flying club? How does that work? Are you happy? We don't have a club here where I live (west texas) but I might be willing to start one if it makes sense to do so. Any and all advice on the topic is both welcome and appreciated.
  14. Overdue update: I played A LOT of craps in 24 hours. I'd guess it was ~8 hours or so. I went up nicely the first night, raking about 1.5x my buy-in using the pass lline with 2 come bets strategy. The next day I went into a bit of a hole while the wife was at the spa. I was playing at the bellagio and it was an especially cold table, I couldn't just walk away, I kept waiting for the dice to turn, but they never really did. I just kept buying back in. So I spent that evening and the next morning before we went to the airport fighting my way back. By they time I got in the cab I was back to only slightly down. I had a lot of fun working my way back (I just wish I hadn't had to do that). I think this is the first time I've ever gone to vegas an didn't play a single hand of blackjack. I think the dice have me ruined for every other table game.
  15. Got ‘em! Mods feel free to delete See you assholes at the tailgate
  16. I've been slogging through The Reality Dysfuncion by Peter F. Hamilton since this summer (It's 1100 pages and is 1/3 in the series). I took a break to read Children of time last week and enjoyed it, but agree with whoever said they didn't love the ending.
  17. My daughter's name is Willa, so this literally hits close to home
  18. I'm headed to Vegas on Wednesday for a quick 24 hour trip. I'm only expecting to have 2-3 hours total to throw dice, but I'm looking forward to getting back to the tables. I didn't make it all the way through the new DC strategy video, but it seems too complicated for me to keep track of. I've tried HG's strategy few times with little success, but that may just be because I haven't been fully committed to it. I've always been a pass/come line guy. I'll typically make 2 or 3 come line bets and ride it out, once I get a couple of payouts, I'll throw in another come bet until I have the bases loaded. I do like to play the small/tall/all bet when it's available, but I like to make sure the odds are acceptably high. I've won it a couple of times in the past and in both cases it has turned around a particularly cold night of playing. A strategy I've been considering but haven't tired yet is to go to one of those places that offers high odds limits and make low line bets with really high odds. I forget the name but last time I was there (February) I rolled a few times at the place across the street from the Bellagio. It offers up to 100x odds. So rather than playing $25 line bets with $75,$100,$125 odds on the pass/come lines, I'm thinking about playing $5 pass/come bets with the same size odds I would be using at the $25 table ($75,$100,$125) backing them up. Since the odds are supposed to be the best bet, I figure it should would out? I'll report back with results.
  19. Those of us who live in Midland could really use a full O.H. Ivey. But I agree, I'm not sure it will ever be full. I'd be damn nice though.
  20. Starting the search for WV tickets. I'm looking for 5 tickets together. Preferable lower level or lower on the upper west side. TIA
  21. [emoji849] Cloak Room is that way —>
