  1. I'm not saying anything like this happened, but time for a CSB ... I know a guy who was charged for this exact thing a few years back. He and his wife were drunk late one evening and had an argument at their house. She started to get violent. He was trying to restrain her from hitting him and was holding her arms with his hands when they went to the ground. While still holding her wrists in his hands, his forearm ended up across her neck which was enough for her to stop the struggle. When he let her up, she locked herself in a room and called the cops. They arrested him on this same charge and he spent the night in jail. The next day, when everyone was sober, he realized he should have just left the house and she realized that she overreacted in accusing him of choking her (she told me this directly). The charges ended up being dropped and after some counseling they are still married and have put it behind them. All that to say, we do not know the facts yet, so I will reserve judgement until they come out. Once they do, if he really did strangle someone, he needs help and jail and a new career.
  2. I wish we had a true road test before we start conference play, I guess this neutral site will be as close as we get to one.
  3. Man, Greg Bear was my introduction to "Hard SciFi" I've read hundreds of books in that genre since, but Eon was my first RIP
  4. Yep, I was driving so I didn't feel anything. But several group text messages I'm on suddenly lit up with "holy shit did you guys feel that?" and the like. It was described by a few as if a car had crashed into their office building. Man, I'm glad I sold out of most of my commercial SWDs ... I'm sure there will be another (or expanded) Seismic Response Area in reaction to this one.
  5. Is that what's going on here in Midland today? Bunch of suits with badges walking all over downtown.
  6. TCU ranks #73 in scoring defense, allowing ~26.9 PPG That is including against OOC teams with overall records of (1-8) (5-4) (5-4). Texas ranks #38 in scoring defense, allowing ~21.8 PPG Despite our issues in the secondary. (FWIW, our OOC opponents have overall records of (3-6) (7-2) (7-2))
  7. I believe the number is 3 Correct. (on the multiple residences, not cult/mormon)
  8. I realized this morning that I own 13 beds. On one hand that seems like overkill, on the other hand, it might be nice to have some more.
  9. Happy for these guys, I really like DB as a company. Which is funny because Travis is an Aggy and Kaes is a torjan, so I shouldn't like them at all.
  10. This is unfortunate news. The same thing happened to me when I was with Western National Bank and they got bought by Frost. Turns out Frost isn't much of an energy lender either and they were total nazis on terms relative to WNB (which is why I left). I found this bank with reasonable terms headed by a guy I've known and seen weekly for over a decade, and now they're selling too, smh. Personal guarantees give me heartburn, with our relatively low LTV, I'd say we have a case to not have to do one, but if it's a blanket policy I might have to go bank shopping. Thanks for the info
  11. I guess I'll carry the torch for VolenteHawk for a bit ... Ended up doing a parlay on Dodgers to win & the over on 7.5 runs. Dodgers won 5-3 (if I'm not careful I'll convince myself that I'm good at this).
  12. Thoughts on tonight's games, and early playoff bets? I admittedly don't bet much baseball, but it would be fun to have some small action going for the games tonight, I just have no idea where to start.
  13. Does anyone have any experience with Prosperity Bank out of Houston as an energy lender? We are a small E&P, operating a handful of Midland Basin assets and our senior debt is with a bank that was just acquired by those guys. Any info or experiences you guys can share is much appreciated.
  14. betonline.ag still takes credit card and direct bank drafts. CC fees are high( ~10%), but they offer a "sign on bonus" of 50% that makes up for it. Example: deposit $100, get hit with $10 in credit card fees, but they credit you with $50 in "free play" money that has to be gambled a few times before you can withdraw it.
  15. Over the summer I enjoyed the "Cradle" series by Will Wight. It's apparently known as "progression fantasy" a genre that I was unfamiliar with until this series. There is a 12th and final book due out early next year.
  16. Typo ... that should read "King Edward VIII"
  17. I'd just like to point out that the Longhorns are undefeated following the death of a British Monarch ... 1972 (King Henry VIII) 23-10 vs. Miami (FL) 1952 (King George VI) 35-14 vs. LSU 1910 (King Edward VII) 11-6 vs. Southwestern 1901 (Queen Victoria) 32-0 vs. the Houston Athletic Association
  18. http://www.ratliffranchgolfodessa.com/ $25 green fee I'm honestly amazed that this didn't end differently. I bet >50% of the golf bags out there contain at least one firearm
  19. That's a guest house that was there when we bought the house. We redid it in 2020, it's just a bedroom/bathroom/ kitchenet, but it kind of functions as a pool house as well
  20. Thanks. This is in Midland. Where the higher the (oil) price goes the more they turn into absurd monstrosities. Our house definitely stands out here because most houses tend to lean toward the McMansion vibe. We were going for a tranquil vibe in the backyard because so much around us is desolate.
  21. I know scale is hard to determine on the photo, but that’s 65”
  22. Here are some after pics for the project. We started last September and have been swimming since Easter. Pavilion/outdoor kitchen have recently been completed. Sectional in the pavilion is incomplete because after waiting 6 months for it to arrive 2/3 pieces showed up damaged, hoping its not Christmas before the replacements arrive. Obviously, there are some odds and ends to be addressed, but I'm looking very forward to spending Saturdays out here this fall.
  23. I think part of the story here is the one, two punch of lack of skilled manpower and supply chain interruptions. This is all anecdotal, but we are in the middle of working over five vertical wells in the Midland basin. We lucked out getting a rig, but services are scarce and have longer lead times; hot oil/wireline being two that I have encountered in the last week. Talking the pulling unit pusher, he said they have idle iron in their yard, but don't have enough competent operators and they are having trouble tooling out the rigs. During the pandemic, when things broke, they scavenged from their idle rigs and are having a hell of a time getting replacements. If this is indicative of what the other outfits are experiencing, I can see how it would have an impact on the ability to complete/repair wells and boost volumes.
