  1. Bet he worked at APD before running for office
  2. i want to hate/sad face this post but not give you a negative vote. I am grateful for the info but can't like the post either. Fucking shit this is bad. Hope it turns around soon for y'all.
  3. Agree but seems like a plan would include 1) naming metrics that don't overrun hospitals, 2) getting enough tests in order to make sure cities/counties are meeting those metrics, 3) instituting a tracing system to cover outbreaks, 4) get everyone to wear a mask once things open up, and 5) sticking to the metrics and halting re-opening if the metrics aren't met. Am I missing any essential parts? We know TX shit the bed on 4, and especially 1 and 5; 2 seemed ok but somehow some but not all cities are starting to run out; and 3...well not sure how that one is going. Is that the only one going well?
  4. @StruggleBus course not, but if there are guidelines, stick to them and have them Strictly enforced. But If we don’t need them and can safely congregate Outdoors, awesome, let’s do that and fuck unnecessary guidance that only adds stress, worry, and financial hardship. @Gardner Barnes That sucks, I’m sorry y’all are going through that. I hope she is feeling better. And that y’all are safe/healthy as well. No doubt it is real. I am just trying to find some hope in this current situation I’m seeing DAILY here in queens: 1) almost every outdoor restaurant/bar packed with people not of the same household at almost all the tables 2) for hours, usually around 2 or 3pm until close late at night 3) table groups not 6ft apart But instead right up next to each other like normal times 4) no masks on the patrons while they’re chillin which would be understandable if the stuff above was not happening 5) the tables themselves straddle the sidewalk so any pedestrians doing normal shit have to walk in between massive amounts of drunk, yelling, unmasked folk 6) the pedestrians themselves sometimes don’t wear masks (which is fine) but they come within inches of tables were no one is wearing any masks Nyc rates of cases, hospitalizations, deaths, etc have all fallen and while people are good about wearing masks when appropriate and distancing in general, it is a fucking SHITSHOW when it comes to the outdoor hospitality industry. I really really hope we aren’t fucking this up but I guess we’ll know in a week or so since we hit phase three on the 22 or the 29 (The days are kind of bleeding together).
  5. love your avatar but respectfully disagree. first off, not sure they'd push the nfl season that late. second, wknds with marquee NBA games on Friday and Sunday nights, full set of NCAAF games on Saturday, with mixed in NCAAB would be bad ass. If you did add in the NFL, coupled with the lead up to the NBA playoffs and March Madness, you'd have some epic betting, drinking, partying days and nights; thursday evening to Sunday night would be around 72 hours of straight sports insanity. After losing a year's worth of holidays, i think people would gladly rage every wknd in the spring to summer. Easily. Especially if this 4th of July is any indication; people here have a tiny taste of security from the Bug and its fucking pandemonium.
  6. Off topic sort of but NYC is fucking INSANE right now with fireworks. Reminds me of old East Austin where they’d have shit popping for hours, good times. Never seen these many home fireworks, it’s everywhere. Can only think it’s pent up ‘Rona rage. Cops just letting it go too
  7. As much as I’d like to hate on these types of behaviors (partly jealousy) if the ozark party didn’t lead to many (any?) infections, then this can’t be that bad. It seems that it in the summer outdoor shit is probably fine but as soon as one goes indoors to cool off in the AC, Shit spreads. We really need more info.
  8. Wasn’t it up thread that people were saying they were also limiting tests to those who needed hospitalization? edit: just saying I have no idea on the reason, just throwing out possible reasons evidenced in this thread
  9. Mask wearing? The virus Overall I can see your point but mask wearing? What exactly do you mean?
  10. This isn’t helpful. We won’t become Guayaquil. If by some small chance we do, even though we won’t, then a helluva lotta shit went wrong and CoVID is the least of our worries.
  11. Admittedly this isn’t an easy question to answer but does it seem like the people in those affected counties are now more disposed to following SiP/SaH orders? Sucks for the sick kids and people/kids stuck at home but wondering if it is converting some of the people that might not have been taking it that seriously. My sister is one of those. Prior to this story she had fallen into the fb mommy group Home schooler/anti vaccine hole and been spreading various “hoax” memes, just the flu, etc (some admittedly worth a good chuckle). While we still had civil discussions about taking precautions, social distancing, etc, she was not taking it serious and did minimal effort for any of those things. Overall she as a nurse knew it existed but was more “roll her eyes” and “whatever, if we get it we get it, no one dies, we’ll be fine, I just want to enjoy green belt!!!“ Her compadre is mid-40s, outdoor worker, more fit than an avg male in his age group, and showed symptoms 13 days ago. First day of symptoms he actually spent with them but has since been in quarantine (luckily, as of today no one has shown any symptoms in her family). By day 9, she reported to us that his main complaint was that he was bored only watching tv and resting. And she said “for some reason” his doc advised him to not do any strenuous physical activity. That got a comment but whatever, it ended with me saying I really hope that in ten years that will be his CoVID story that he was just bored. Very next night she texts at midnight EST freaking out that her compadre’s wife just called and that they were in route to the hospital. He went from fine to not breathing/unconscious in minutes. The wife had actually been leaving to get the daughter from work, said bye to the husband but only checked on him bc he didn’t respond and found him gasping for air before shortly not breathing at all. Had she left a couple minutes earlier they’d have come home to a dead guy. Obviously now my sister is in overdrive. Where can I buy the good masks, why can’t we get the great ones, only one person goes out, etc. From the anecdotal stories on seeing mask usage in the wild on this board, I’m assuming that she isn’t the only person in Texas in that situation. And for those that get sick or know infected people, don’t forget days 10-14/15 are a bitch, always be extra vigilant then. Stay safe y’all
  12. grew up in austin, everyone always pronounced it like that. never heard a native Austinite pronounce it different but I've only known Czechs, Mexicans, and African Americans growing up, and all my schools were east of 35.
  13. That does suck, sorry. But honestly, I think a second anniversary of the 50th is more realistic next summer. Stay healthy, and plan big for a date that hopefully isn’t overbooked after we get the vaccine (crossing fingers! But honestly think we will. We are an amazing species at times, we can do this, we have to do this and we will).
  14. Do they feel ok? Sucks they’re positive but have they been able to weather it ok? Hoping none of them have been hospitalized or worse
  15. Sorry about your dad, hopefully it isn’t that. Fuck cancer
  16. Doubt it but possible. People generally wear masks everywhere here. And a lot of people know someone who died or at the very least had it and have been told they “wouldn’t wish it on their worst enemy”. I’m not saying we’ve handled it better but we definitely have taken it more serious than Texas has. Think ny will look more like the euros until the weather turns cold and then it’ll be a shitstorm again. And not much we’ll be able to do about it then other than just taking it. edit: also we never stopped riding the subway so not sure what you mean
  17. Or if they moved their maga hats out of the way so they could aim at Klayton, Kallie, and Katie a little better. Happy now you piece of shit?
  18. Yeah... disagree. Protests are about a show of solidarity in the vicinity of others while sports events for the audience involve communal celebration but don’t necessitate it. You can protest with a little bit of distance, mask on, and sober while being “safe”. but an audience at a major sporting event would mean drinking, possible frequent removal of masks or having them off, and limited distancing. And any drinking will lead to bad behaviors very easily. would be for having sports with no audience if we can figure out how to keep the players and their families CoVID free and socially healthy.
  19. Is there a graph/link to that data that it’s youngs? Or young’s protesting? Thought it was too early to see that correlation to the protests. But if you have it, would love for you to be right since hospitals are looking good for now. And thank you for the daily-ish Austin charts, they have been very informative.
  20. And bc we closed down the first wave was delayed, you opened up too early and now you will use all that extra space unfortunately to deal with the “grim shit”.
  21. Yes, we are trying to open up safely. We had to close down until we could but we are slowly opening up safely (admittedly relatively considering this is a novel virus). We will close down if we need to. Can Texas or Florida say the same?
