  1. The pressure in that situation has literally made grown men cry. Maybe it helped that he's still a kid, I don't know. But either way nailing that kick straight down the middle with 15 yards to spare absolutely deserves a national weekly award.

  2. My actual vote right now would be an 8-team playoff. P5 conference champions and any undefeated G5 champions get automatic bids. If there are more than 3 G5 undefeated champions (almost infinitesimal chance) then the lowest rated ones play off to get in the playoff. Would never happen, though.

Any remaining spots are at-large and decided by the same committee who seeds the teams. First round (quarterfinals) is played at the higher seed's stadium. Semis and finals same as now.

    The end.

  3. If you can go undefeated and not win the championship then it's not a real championship, that's all there is to it.

Either expand the playoff to 16 or break up FBS into two divisions. If it's a playoff then conference champions need to be guaranteed entry.

Hide? To be sneaky? Or because he was scared to go back on the field?

The old "lie down in the end zone so the coverage team doesn't see you" trick. Worked for TCU and has worked in the past, but the Horned Frogs threw a forward pass instead of a lateral.

  5. That's the correct explanation but the pass was not caught 20+ yards downfield. PFF college can be pretty questionable in their work. Not a big deal on an individual play basis but it happens enough that I question their product sometimes.

Wait, are you implying that Warehime did something good? I don’t think I like your tone.

I don't know, I think most surly posters would be happy if Warehime changed roles and became our designated "spot uniform violations by the other team" coach instead of position coach. Seems like he might have a knack for that sort of thing if the story is accurate.

  7. For the record, I'm not sure it's been discussed here, but Gary Johnson needs a lot of love for his work on the actual last play of the game. Just as the lateral-fest was getting going he realized that Murray was drifting in the middle of the field with a couple of blockers and made a beeline straight toward him to basically play man-to-man defense on him like a basketball player. Classic ball-you-man position and it's why he was right there to jump on it at the end. I think he also drew a holding penalty on his way to cover Murray.

Just a great heads-up play by Johnson. Even if the coaches told him, which I have no idea if that's the case, it's still a great job not to lose your bearings and your assignment/responsibility in the middle of a play like that. And it takes a lot of discipline to run away from the ball in that situation to get your man.

Seriously, watch it again and just keep your eyes on Johnson.

  8. I think it was just a screen to Murray. It obviously wasn't going to be a double pass because it would have been a forward pass to Murray so he couldn't have thrown another forward pass (we weren't in Lubbock with the Tech/Houston refs).

NC St rescheduled with ECU  (were playing VT)

WVU could schedule a game with VT but would have to be week AFTER B12 title game as they could be playing in it.

West Virginia has a bye on 10/20. So does Iowa State. North Carolina State has a bye on 10/13.

If people actually cared enough to pay attention they should have moved the WVU/ISU game to 10/20 so that WVU and NCSU could make up their game on 10/13.

Perhaps the 2nd best thing about being 4-1 right now is the lesson for many of us to not come running to the internet like a Kyler Murray puss-bag treating every loss like the end of the f**king universe, or worse, the end of football at Texas.

Hey man, I need you to sit down for a minute because I've got some big news for you.

We beat Oklahoma. We're 5-1 now.

    You're welcome.

I get it.  We CAN beat you.  I just don't see it happening.  OK State CAN beat you, same thing.

If you guys start playing down to competition again, you'll get bit.  It seems like Herman has this team focused though.  Pre-season I saw our game as a toss up, and right now I'd say it's 75-80% likely win for UT at a minimum.

You act like we didn't play down to the competition just 9 days ago.

I think this week's game against Baylor is actually pretty important. Herman needs to show that he's learned how to prepare his team to beat inferior competition soundly. If we play well then we can beat Baylor by 20. If we play badly we could actually lose. This team isn't good enough to have off weeks against this conference. Our good weeks are really good and we can play with and beat almost anyone. But we have to be consistently good.

  12. It's nice to be out over our skis a bit, but I think there's basically no way we win out. We're playing much better but the Big 12 is a lot better conference than most people think. We have another tough 4 game stretch coming up after Baylor and at some point a really bad performance is going to pop up with a team still coming together for a new coach. I honestly think we finish 9-3 and we will see if that gets us into the title game.

Agreed.  They are more proactive.  They see trends and adjust before they become facts.  Heupel a few years ago, this move, Stoops’ resignation all speak to a very nimble and aggressive decision-making process. We tend to wait and see to the point that the decision makes itself.

Only dumb move they made was dropping Venables because Mike Stoops got fired from Arizona and needed a job.  And even that move didn’t look as bad at the time as it turned out to be.

The Mike Stoops hire was widely panned as a terrible move.

  14. Dude, college football has been around since before the forward pass was legal. Of course there have been dual threat quarterbacks forever.

Roger Staubach, Tobin Rote, Antwaan Randle-El, Kordell Stewart. They've been everywhere for decades.

  15.
Vick was considered the first dual threat QB of our era in CFB, or of any era, correct?

Are you serious with the last part of that question? You think dual threat QBs didn't exist in college football before 1999?
  16. Some of you are gonna get triggered but Stanford > UT in pretty much all metrics of good a university should be academics wise. And regardless of this season, have a far superior record in player development fro past 10 years or so.
What about the metric of actually giving an F to a student who deserves to fail a class? Or actually grading realistically instead of the entire university undergrad population averaging over a 3.5 GPA?
