  1. it would be a college football anomaLY if it didn't happen.
  2. "that name sounds like royalty. are you royalty?" actually more like a Catholic southie token indeed.
  3. good assumption; it's called Booger T Washington.
  4. they saw the video of him slapping that dummy?
  5. It's a mile-high stadium, so football players used to playing at basically sea level will be out of breath quickly. So losing by 7 at Colorado is really winning by 3, at the very least.
  6. another corner back i'm putting down for UGa is Ga'Quincy. just going by his name. https://247sports.com/player/gaquincy-mckinstry-46052990/ for same reason, i like this dude from south fl to land in Aggieland. https://247sports.com/player/agiye-hall-46055274/
  7. This guy has a running list and grading/notes of major coaching changes including for coordinator/position coaches at least at major openings... except that he has some how not addressed the UT coaching changes. https://walterfootball.com/CollegeFootballHiringGrades.php for example: Jan. 3 Ole Miss hires D.J. Durkin as defensive line coach/co-defensive coordinator Grade: Disgraceful and Embarrassing I can admit I was on the Lane Train when he was hired by Ole Miss. I think he earned the opportunity to step back up to the plate in "big-time" college football and get another swing. But Durkin shouldn't be on his or anyone else's team. Accidents happen, I can accept that. Some accidents have tragic results. But Jordan McNair's death at Maryland under Durkin still doesn't feel like a tragic accident and it's certainly not one that Durkin has been accountable for in the past two years. Whether Durkin is a good coach or not shouldn't make a difference here because many of the players he coached at Maryland believed he was responsible for their teammate's death and when he was re-instated after a joke of an investigation by the Maryland administration, the players decided enough was enough. They didn't believe he was sorry or that he cared about that. That should say it all. Some people will say that Durkin deserves a second chance, but where's McNair's second chance? Would you let Durkin coach your son? How would you react to him stepping into your house to recruit your son and telling you he is going to care about him? The constant joke about football in the SEC is that the schools will do ANYTHING to win. I don't think that's always fair. I do believe there are many honorable administrators and coaches in the conference. This hire, howevewr, shows me that joke is accurate when it comes to Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss football.
  8. how badly does A&M really need mount McKinnley (denali, really) Jackson? Got two NTs in the class already, plus have 5 other strong dudes on campus already. It's always great to have high quality guys on both lines especially since some just don't pan out. Pass rush was a very weak spot and thankfully they went and got two really good prospects there. most important remaining recruitment on the DL for Jimbo is retaining the DL coach.
  9. I honestly don't have any insider info, just going by public info and assumptions. I had high hopes for Colten Blanton and Blake Trainor for one of the OT spots after having been in the program for more than a year and redshirting. I think Blanton would be a redshirt junior now? I understand injuring and shit but if I'm a position corch (and I'm not), knowing who is permanently sidelined due to injuries and finding their replacement(s) is part and parcel of roster management. So I'm guessing (hoping!) that Blanton and Trainor are healthy and can contribute, because the corches haven't exactly focused on getting OTs the last couple classes. Same goes for Grayson Reed but don't have a feel for where he would fit, probably not an RT or LT prospect but maybe one of the quality backup guard spots? So I'm still hoping at least one of those three if not two of them pan out and find rotation spot next season. Guard is loaded position-- loaded with shit? Cream floats up to the top, and guys like Tank Jenkins and Luke Matthews have to start floating to the top, or be ready to get flushed/portaled. I know Matthews is last of the prodigious legacy line so hopefully he pans out. If they're really betting on Shepherd to be their savior, good luck to them, but to paraphrase "Blake" from Glengarry Glen Ross, I would wish them good luck but they wouldn't know what to do with it if they got it. Fans can play the "hope" game, going by how many times I used that word in this post. Corches better have more solid plans than just hope. Bottom line, I'm hoping none of the freshman, not even Chris Morris, have to contribute right away because there is depth on campus and it's time for that depth to materialize into quality depth/starters. And yes, focus on getting decent OT prospects in the recruiting class since they're not going to be hitting the portal or grad transfer circuit to get ready-made dude for plugging in. looks like Trey Zuhn is already landed, which is of some comfort. Is Featheree too tall with not enough bend at the knee to be good OT prospect? Don't know. Is Hayden Conner really and truly a done deal, or do A&M's Katy ties come into play at all? Or are we splitting on the OL/DL with each getting one of landon jackson/burris and foster/conner? don't know.
  10. The Big V! for next time, you have a hand sign...
  11. some thread on 247 pointing to flighaware flight plan from Madison, WI to College Station. I'm guessing Wisky's RB corch coming in for interview? I looked at Wisky's RB recruiting...loaded with 3-star bread--- function of recruiting to Madison? Jonathan Taylor was a 3-star too, and he declared early (after his junior year) for NFL (don't blame him for doing so), so whoever the coach is probably also wanting to exit on high note and Jimbo happy to give cash (and gain cachet, deserved or not?). Could be a good fit as far as offensive systems too, I'm guessing (between Wisky's and Jimbo's). who else could be a viable target?
  12. that last name reminds me of a couple of douchy bros that played basketball for Duke a few years ago. bleh.
  13. Felipe Franks may be Florida's (and now Arky's) version of Mond; physical specimen but seem to get lost in between the ears, can't make fast decisions and take sacks or makes wrong decisions. A&M (Mond, no less!) already beat him once; maybe his college career will be bookended by losses to A&M. Not sure yet about what Leach can do at Miss St, not just this year but going forward. Did he have to face plodding O's that chewed up clock? Jimbo probably will target a game scoring 31 points or under, and hope that Elko's D can stop the Pirate from scoring more than 24. Jimbo's O means he will never blow out anybody but himself may suffer some blowouts almost every year either because his O couldn't keep up or because the D simply can't keep the other team from scoring. Not sure any of Ole Miss, Miss St, or Arky are there yet, but it seems certain none of these will be blowout wins for Jimbo, which is kinda dumb.
  14. was there a general consensus on this site that Jim Turner never was all that he was cracked out to be? it would be unseemly to criticize from both sides of the issue; so either Turner was a bum who got lucky with one or two good classes under Sherman and those were Sherman evals to begin with, or he was good and Jimbo didn't know good when it landed in his lap. i've seen criticism on both sides from Longhorn fans, depending on convenience. Plus, how sure are we that Turner was told to look around? He was at Miami Dolphins as OL coach after his Sherman years at A&M, and before he got hired back to A&M, he spent a year at OL coach at Cinci Bengals. Maybe he didn't get along with Jimbo and thought it's best to go back to NFL and luckily for him, the Cinci job was still his to be had. none of this shields criticism of Jimbo's OL issues, and Henson is still on the hook for making something out of the 2020 OL.
  15. Big tall white dudes from Balkans make for good C and PFs in basketball, so not a bad idea to test out that athleticism on the gridiron. Hand starting a new pipeline to Belgrade?
  16. I don't know how good/objective this OL ranking is, so give your insights if you have any. https://www.pff.com/news/college-football-ranking-all-130-college-football-offensive-line-situations A few salient points that jump at me, someone who is more of a casual observer with no insider knowledge: - LSU and UT OL are rated/ranked pretty closely. So perhaps I'm overplaying the UT OL issues going into 2020 season. - UT and Auburn are rated pretty closely too, so Hand left cupboard full at Auburn and/or is working his regime with UT's OL to the point of upgrading it to the similar level as Auburn's, his previous coaching stop. - A&M's OL is ranked 30 spots below UT's, not that A&M and UT are on-field competitors. More importantly, the blurb about A&M's OL being 34th best for ground game, while only 107th in pass pro. Now look at oSu's ranking, at #25. If Josh Henson is any good, 2020 is a pretty good year to prove it and narrow the spread between A&M's and oSu's OL rankings, similar to what Hand has done for UT vis a vis Auburn. Looks like A&M's higher rated OL backups (4-star out of high school) suffered season-long injuries and therefore couldn't provide the competition needed to displace any of the starters even when the starters weren't playing too well. I have no idea if any one of Colten Blanton (6'7", 303lb out of high school, 13th best OT in 2018 class), or Grayson Reed (6'5", 305, 4-star), or Blake Trainor (6'7", 330, 3-star) are any good at any of the OL spots or if they're even healthy. Hopefully at least one of them finally is ready to play and at least provide quality backup minutes. There is also OG Tank Jenkins, OG/C Luke Matthews, and C Layden Robinson-- all 4 stars or position ranked pretty highly. Only "WTF" guys seem to be Barton Clement from last year and Jordan Jefferson from this year. Maybe they both get switched to DL. Jefferson is this year's version of Clement, except even shorter and slightly heavier! So in short, the cupboard doesn't seem empty, and it's up to Henson to get the OL right and ready.
  17. no, it's not just you; i'm there with you. it's come to the point of assuming the OL is wrecked unless proven otherwise. which is incredible seeing how A&M has produced better than average OL in the last decade before Jimbo's arrival, with several NFL starters...including at tackle. it's fair to bring up barely-there OL of A&M, but tbh the discussion was about UT so that's why I only thought and wrote about what I thought could be a weak point in the UT game.
  18. Your schedule isn't kind though; OL needs time to gel to work as one unit, and you face LSU in second week. And two weeks later you face @KSU and then the annual OU grudge game. Seems a bit front-loaded, so the OL may not be ready? How good is USF? Decent tune-up for @LSU the next week? Would have been fun to have Charlie Strong back in Austin but obviously on the visitor's side.
  19. that misspelling requires a ton of effort. sheesh. then again, in the same post, he also can't tell the difference between there, their, and they're.
  20. what's so weird? there's a thread for coaching carousel since this thing happens every year at most schools...probably is happening even more off late. I'd rather that position coaches get looks from other schools or NFL than to have coaches that nobody wants and will likely be out of coaching if/when they get fired. and younger coaches are likely to move especially for a pay raise but also to build their resume, their contacts, and learn new systems. it's not just a Jimbo/A&M thing. would you have coaches who you have to fire or coaches who others try to recruit away from you?
  21. and it's pretty much a done deal. although it wouldn't be a shock if he stays.
  22. Already recruiting 2023 RB... dang. And 2022 starting to get rolling. Is there a thread for that? Should it be called, using Seinfeld reference and following up on this thread's title, "2022: Shut up, you old bag!" Shut up, you old bag!
  23. You forgot to put the head honcho on that list. Doesn't matter; got Jimbo!
