  1. There have been 30 football player deaths from heat stroke since 2000. What kind of long-term effects does a player who survives heat stroke suffer from? Acute myocardial infarction can occur from heat stroke. How do the schools handle this from a liability standpoint? And we know that on average about 2 players die from this every year. It is a serious issue that has caused real loss of life and yet, we pretty much ignore that risk-factor.
  2. Battle of bullshit narratives!
  3. Let's not start sucking New Zealand's dick just yet. They just reported their first 4 cases after 102 days in Auckland.
  4. Adding #wewanttocoach to the list of hastags I never thought I'd live to see.
  5. So I guess #weareunited has stopped asking for 50% of revenues now that they are joining forces with #wewanttoplay. Or maybe they realize they actually need to play before they can ask for half the money.
  6. The actual primary concern is liability. The lack of any clarity on long term effects would potentially mean legal issues years from now.
  7. Joel Klatt has some thoughts:
  8. I am curious, in your histrionic cloak-room rambling... which experts' strategy are you saying would have guaranteed that we would have College Football this fall? Just so I am clear <checks notes> if we'd done the following, we'd have football? Implemented a flawless, accurate rapid test in early February Nationwide mask mandate when all the "experts," including Fauci, the Surgeon General, and the WHO recommended against wearing and publicly questioned their effectiveness Zero citizens questioning or challenging the information being given Even harsher economic lockdown to "save grandma?" Get our collective shit together
  9. Why the fuck would the NFL spend resources building out a farm league when a free version exists, and has existed for many decades before the NFL even existed. The NFL and CFB absolutely have an "agreement." If they didn't the NFL would play games on Saturday throughout the regular season. CFB does not want the NFL to have a devvy league to poach their talent, and the NFL is 100% cool with that arrangement. Again, free farm system. IF College Football implodes due to all of this shit, and the massive pool of free talent diminishes, the NFL would be idiotic NOT to start a devvy league. It would be IMG Academy on steroids (errr....on even stronger steroids) and yes, people would go watch these games. It would suck and be massively depressing to see this happen, of course. And I don't think it will happen. But there is a scenario that exists where that could be a possibility in due time.
  10. This thing is unsurprising, considering the times we are in, but it's still a shitshow for College Football. If this movement really takes hold around the other conferences, I expect an NFL Developmental league to spring up soon.
  11. I'd love to know who wrote that fucking list of demands. It sounds like the California Teacher's Union and the PAC 12 player's rep used the same negotiator. If 20-somethings have learned anything over the last 2 months, it's that you might as well shoot for the moon and see where you land. But this isn't going to be like CHAZ/CHOP. The PAC 12 will call their bluff and cancel the season and pick this bullshit up next year.
  12. This fucking thread is a perfect microcosm of how divisive the thinking is on this virus. Idiotically, there are two "sides" and both sides think they are smarter and more well-informed than the other. We have a widespread virus among our society and we better fucking get used to living with it. What kind of life that means, pre-vaccine or 'magic bullet', is the biggest cause for debate. We are well past the "the virus is just a hoax" period of this shit.
  13. Chiefs RB Damien Williams has announced he is opting out. He's probably the highest profile guy thus far to do so. No doubt many more to come. I expect if there IS a college football season, there will very likely be some opt outs.
  14. Why does this surprise anyone that they are waiting as long as possible to make a decision? They are watching the data as closely as anyone else, and are hoping that numbers might flatten enough by mid-August to justify a decision to move forward. Right or wrong, it's been clear for a while that they'd operate this way. They want a football season and will die on that hill before they are forced to cancel it.
  15. I suspect this sounds better in theory than in reality.
  16. Considering the steep decrease in fatalities, either the virus is weakening or the treatments have improved. Or both. There is even a potential scenario that by Sept 1, the case growth will have flattened as well. Who knows, we might even get some herd immunity up in this biotch?
  17. "Trojans and Cocks" makes it a little better, no? At least that's what I heard from SA's mom.
  18. There are definitely a few of the old, fat, asshole umpires that would not be missed. Could say the same about the Big 12 refs. Yay, COVID!
  19. Latest COVID testing information from MLB. 6 positives out of 10,548 tests in the past week.
  20. Similarly, it will be very telling if the all-cause death total at the end of the year looks pretty much the same as any other year. I think no matter where you stand on the COVID position, we can all agree that the noise is fucking deafening.
  21. Pretty sure the final straw for Hammster was his Michelob Ultra fueled tweet threatening to spill the dirt on Sumlin.
  22. I gotta admit, I was convinced that nothing could ever top the "Peak Hamm" days of the Hamm thread...I was wrong. At what point does Karen become a Karen and write a sternly worded letter to the Surly manager?
  23. The NCAA is releasing their own NYT charts now? I don't think the SEC is going to listen to the medical experts at the NCAA on this one.
  24. This is all John Mackovic's fault.
