  1. Ottawa by November 1!
  2. Damn the Roots are playing at the Blue Note in Manhattan in March. We might just have to make that one.
  3. And Ready Player 2 was so not a great book.
  4. Good spot. If you don't have all of your meals planned then a quick walk to El Cardenal for breakfast is highly recommended.
  5. Well it's hard to ask a 78-year-old to sit out in freezing weather for that long.
  6. Where at in the city center? We love the Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico.
  7. Shit I forgot about Montreal on 8/23. My wife is currently a teacher looking to leave the profession. If she does leave that would be absolutely perfect.
  8. Trying to get more enthusiasm for the wife for keeping the new away venue streak going. So far we've hit one a year with 2022: Houston 2023: Kansas City (bro trip, wife didn't attend) 2024: Dallas Options are 6/7 in Colorado, 6/28 in Seattle, or 7/26 in DC. We were married at Olympic National Park, so Seattle has some sentimental value. She wants to hit DC, but damn Colorado is just so easy and nice in June.
  9. I had to read a solid book on that during grad school. Naming the Antichrist: The History of an American Obsession | Oxford Academic
  10. "Oh no home is burning, well might as well try out this pie shop and see if it's better than the other 23 I've had this week to help me wash out the pain."
  11. I'm in long on SCHD with reinvestment on but more of a "never sell" position for the distant future. The bulk non-401k is in VTI/VOO which is the better longterm play than SCHD/dividend chasing but having a dividend position is something I enjoy personally even if it isn't technically the absolute best ROI.
  12. Can't say it's been a boring offseason. I'm looking forward to February 22nd.
  13. I wonder if they bought those boots in bulk or all went together to buy them.
  14. East Texas grandma? Yeah that tracks.
  15. Yeah if only we lived in 1968 like TOS S2 & 3. No, but seriously, you're right we are in a time when "dark" rules our entertainment. As noted by my excitement for Severance tomorrow. Two of the top shows in 1968 were Gomer Pyle USMC and Mayberry RFD.
  16. I just remember that he lives really close to the SPAM museum in Austin MN, but on the Iowa side. Hard to forget the majesty of the SPAM museum.
  17. Google says like 3.5 hours from you right? Worth it.
  18. My wife's aunt in Ottumwa makes kicks ass Zacatecan food like the rest of her family. If you ever find yourself stuck there in need of the softest rice of your life, let me know. I think she's single too, unless I'm confusing her with the Missouri tia. Either way I'm sure there are plenty of single women in the branch looking for a farmer to steal.
  19. Well that was a cheap lunch. Do they have deals like this often on their Meal Simple stuff? I saw that sweet and sour chicken was on sale for $2.
  20. What is the vibe on Section 31 right now? Is the community generally excited for it?
  21. I'm about to be on the movies. I was home sick from work yesterday and got through the entire first season of TAS. I'm actually liking it more than I thought I would, but then again I'm a sucker for cartoons with that style from the 70s. I'm thinking that I've seen the first 4 movies, but I don't really remember what happens too much in them.
  22. Truth, I wonder how long before we get S2 emulation up and running. I wonder if it might be too powerful for the SD to handle in emulation?
  23. I'm no David Brooks fan, but I thought his article yesterday in the Times was pretty accurate in how we deserve him (though it was too easy on Republicans for nominating him). I do disagree that we're at the most dangerous foreign policy point since WWII, but he's always pretty hawkish. This was the most prescient part:
  24. Man as a Steamdeck owner I just can't get that excited about it.
