  1. State is not challenging the sudden passion. Jury could lower this to a 2nd degree felony.
  2. He’s not even a cop. Just some jagoff who leads cop training seminars that thinks all cops are warriors/superheroes and justified in using deadly force in almost any situation so long as they get home safe. *his name is Dave Grossman. He was featured in a doc called Do Not Resist and there are several YouTube videos about the content of his Warrior Cop seminars.
  3. I'm afraid that changing their clothes isn't enough to change their mindset. It's good symbolism, but I'm not sure the issue is fixed that easily.
  4. Looks like the hearing is done for the day, to resume tomorrow morning at 9:30am.
  5. What would them changing out of their uniform prior to returning home accomplish?
  6. Seriously, what is going on here? I didn't hear a reason for the sidebar.
  7. "hopkinsnhorns, can you explain why there was an abundance of transexual pornographic images in your group text message?" "My friends are sick, sick fucks."
  8. I've stated my hypothesis that she gets 10 years on FB. My black friends (and their black friends) do not agree and want much more time. My response:
  9. She definitely chose the wrong minority to indiscriminately kill. Her life couldn't hold a flame to his...
  10. According to her, she did do "a little CPR" along with a sternum rub while on the phone with 911. But she had no blood on her, which would make the claim that she did CPR on a person with a gunshot in their chest highly doubtful.
  11. 1) That is very inefficient and inconvenient to make them robe/disrobe at the station. Not really feasible or necessary for anything. 2) They did use her training in de-escalation, protocols, CPR, etc against her in this case as she failed to follow her training. Most damning bits came out in her cross-examination. She admitted to hearing noises coming from her apartment before she entered. She admitted that she intended to kill him when she engaged him. Those two things likely convicted her.
  12. Yes, they are in recess for lunch until 1pm. I'm assuming there will be statements made by the prosecution and defense, and possibly some family members of either side, before they deliberate again to determine the sentence.
  13. Where is @Constant? Verdict is rendered, so now he can give his opinion, right?

  15. They seemed wholly unprepared at some points. Furthermore, she was an exceptionally bad witness. For the defense, she felt rehearsed and intentionally dramatic at times, while failing to keep to the script on cross examination. That combination of feeling both overly produced and subsequently unprepared did little to garner sympathy from the jury.
  16. How late is too late to pursue a career in law? I like engineering, but nothing gets me as fired up as legal matters.
  17. I think if we can find a way to weaponize dog farts, you'll have your answer.
  18. Especially the locks. It was shown that they over-torqued the screws on the strike plate, causing it to deflect in a way that prevented the auto-shut feature from being effective.
  19. I think the O/U should be set at 9.5 years. My money is that she gets 10 years. Any more doesn't do anything to alleviate the pain of the deceased's family, nor is she more likely to be rehabilitated. Honestly, 5 years probably gets the job done, but because of the optics of the case, they bump it to 10 years. The verdict was more important than the sentencing IMHO.
