  1. They're advertising them for $.44/lb fresh at my local HEB. I haven't seen them yet, but I haven't stopped by there in about a week.
  2. I needed All Access to get the NFL Network and streaming capabilities. I listen more often on my Soundwear at work through the app on my phone or on the Amazon Echo at home than I do in the car. It just pisses me off because the content I listen to still has a shit load of commercials, including that fucking Kars4Kids shit.
  3. Wow, calling their number is not the way to go anymore. Damn Indian women kept trying to upsell me and pretended not to hear me when I told her I didn't want it at that price. I ended up hanging up on her. The dumb bitch actually cancelled my service and issued me at $.62 refund. Chat was a total 180. Well spoken (in type), able to offer me the same package I had before (6 mo All Access for $50 + tax&fees). All told, $64.33. If you pay through the chat and ask, they'll take off the invoice fee, which saved me another $2.
  4. Maybe it's just me, but Five Guys gives me nearly instant diarrhea. Their food tastes fine, but my body has no idea how to digest it.
  5. I was sitting home last night trying to figure out what to do for dinner, so I started browsing GrubHub. Who the fuck would GrubHub Red Lobster??!?! I wouldn't even eat it at that shit at the restaurant, let alone 20-30 minutes later after it is eventually delivered to your house. Thought it was hilarious to see Auntie Annie's, Great American Cookies, and other mall food offered on there as well.
  6. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/A-botched-Houston-drug-raid-led-to-a-wave-of-14267638.php A botched Houston drug raid led to a wave of leaks. Cops starting peeking at internal records and found themselves under a different kind of investigation.
  7. Hopkins was my undergrad alma mater. No relation to my address.
  8. I didn't even know they had these in the bakery section. I was using the bagged dozen pack from the bread/tortilla aisle.
  9. FYI - the Mixla corn and flour tortillas from HEB (when they are open) are fucking awesome. Didn't need to do the flash fry with them like I would plain corn tortillas and they rolled like a dream. Still has the corn taste but without the PITA factor of working with corn tortillas. Also, that post should have said frozen, not dozen, hatch chilies. I had ~3 cups of roasted, peeled, seeded left in the freezer I needed to use up before the new season arrives.
  10. Used up the dozen hatch chilies over the weekend making a huge batch of green chili stew. Best part is leftovers. Made huevos gringos this AM: Strained out the rest of the pork/potatoes and repurposed the sauce and a rotisserie chicken to make green chili chicken enchiladas tonight.
  11. Did we already forget about the woman who fell into the industrial meat grinder or the guy who fell into the vat of very strong acid?
  12. Friend's flight had to land on the "Oh Shit" runway at IAH after significant mechanical failure mid-flight. Apparently they had to wait over an hour after the fire was out for the wing temps to drop enough that they could tow them back to the terminal.
  13. Surely this is an accidentally racist translation error...
  14. I don't remember which bar it was in, but I remember having a Royal Gin Fizz at a cocktail bar on or near SoCo circa 2009. Same as the Ramos, but carbonated with champagne instead of soda water. I need to start making those again...
  15. I had a late dinner at Justine last Tuesday. Wait staff was freaking out a bit because Jennifer Lawrence was there eating dinner as well. We were in the front half, she was in the back, so I only saw the back of her head on my way to/from the restroom. Dinner and cocktails were pretty excellent. Some of the best oysters I've ever had. Steak tartare was excellent, so was the foie gras. Wife and I split the moules frites, which were also tasty, though the fries could have been hotter when they arrived at the table. The cabaret girl dancing around with her huge feather fan was a nice touch. I think she had like 3 wardrobe changes in the 2ish hours we were there, and each was as sexy as the one before it. Gotta love live entertainment that doesn't produce excessive noise.
  16. She's right re:Q-tips. Generic are like wispy bits of cotton on flimsy plastic straws. They're useful for next to nothing.
  17. TPIWWP but I re-heated a brisket I had smoked around New Year's yesterday. It had been sitting in a deep freezer, still in the butcher paper in a foil pan. I vacuum sealed the whole thing the night of the cook. After thawing in the fridge for a couple days, I removed the plastic and put the now deformed from the vacuum pan w/ brisket into a new foil pan and covered the top tightly with foil. Four hours at 325F and 3-ish hour rest time in an insulated bag, then I opened it up and sliced it. It turned out great. Super moist and tender, and sliced like a dream. Got rave reviews at the pool party we attended. A second brisket is now in the fridge thawing. I'll reheat that one overnight on Monday before packing away for the drive in to New Orleans to see some friends. I'll be sure to get pictures of that one. This was an important proof of concept for me. With the big trailer rig we have at the work cook team, it feels wasteful to fire it up if you're not going to cook 5-6 briskets at a minimum. This will allow me to do a couple more test smokes before the competition this year without feeling like I'm wasting wood.
  18. Maybe she should be forced to spearhead their next Listeria cleanup. Should be due for one any day now.
  19. I thought that they did, but now I'm thinking they don't. Either way B&J >> CC >> BB.
  20. Wrong. Nearly every other ice cream has some sort of tamper-resistant packaging.
  21. No.HEB, B&J, etc. all have a plastic seal around the top of the container. Those that don't have that have a plastic seal under the lid on top of the ice cream. Source - I like ice cream, just not Blue Bell.
