  1. I took 2 exemptions last year, as I've always done. Suspecting withholdings were too low after the tax cut, I had them start taking an extra $50/paycheck as well. I still ended up about $1100 shy at the end of the year. So now I'm working OT to have the funds to cover the taxes, which is likely to fuck me even further next year.
  2. Well, when the withholding tables are fucked and all of a sudden you owe ~1 weeks wages in taxes at the end of the year when all of your prior experiences have been receiving some form of refund, yeah, that can fuck with your budget a bit. So, I reiterate - fuck the IRS. I'm not happy about having to dig into savings to pay Uncle Sam another pound of flesh because some fucking bean counters can't figure out how to use Excel.
  3. Do I know anyone with a mobile welding machine? We've got a couple small repairs needed on the BBQ pit at work (Tomball), but they would need to be done on site as we can't move the pit until these repairs are completed. Welder would be compensated for their work/travel. If you know anyone in the Tomball/Spring/Woodlands area, let me know. Thanks!
  4. This is the first year I've ever had a payment due. I think the IRS fucked the withholding tables with the Trump tax reform last year. Damn near everyone I know my age (early 30s) without kids owes money for the first time ever. And this was after I had them withhold an additional $25/week from my paychecks. Fuck Trump and fuck the IRS.
  5. I almost did that, but it was only $.10/lb more for just the thighs.
  6. Watch the Property Brothers episodes filmed in Canada (Toronto area, iirc). Every show is like a couple in their 30's getting their first house. Their budget is $1+MM. It's insane.
  7. My in-laws get a condo in Fort Walton Beach every summer, just across the bridge from Destin (aka The Redneck Riviera). I think it's called the Island Echos by Wyndham. Pretty nice, just a pain to get to unless you're driving in. Flights in to/out of VPS are $$$.
  8. I'm not donating a red cent to JHU or UT until all of my student loans are paid off.
  9. They're large shallow pasta bowls from World Market. *I can't find them on their website, but I know my wife just bought a couple more of them maybe 2-3 weeks ago, so they should still be available in store.
  10. If I could have found boneless thighs w/ the skins, I would have gotten them. All the boneless ones at HEB we’re also skinless, and I was in too much of a hurry to debone 4 thighs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. There was some leftover sauce after I portioned out my lunches. My wife and I stopped it up with some Dave’s Killer Bread. So fucking good.
  12. 10/10, will make again. This combined two of my not so favorite ingredients (mustard and bone-in chicken thighs) and elevated them to a restaurant worthy meal. Used Maille whole grain mustard and some German whole grain mustard for the sauce before finishing with Dijon and some heavy cream. Finished with cold butter off heat to help bring the whole sauce together. Seasoned with a little thyme and cayenne.

  14. Yeah, this is where I'm at too. I don't believe he or Adnan were actually involved. I think Jay used Hae's disappearance as a ploy to wiggle his way out of a drug charge, and combined with the what we now know to be BS cell tower data and phone records, Ritz, McGilivary, and Jay pieced together a timeline to fit the evidence that they had at the time. Ulrich is also a piece of shit, but that is just SOP for prosecutors as far as I can tell. I'm with the surveyor dude - no one would have walked that far astray to take a piss and stumble upon that body. I think he either did it himself or was told about her location by someone else and used the piss story to help bring closure to her family.
  15. Look, that groundhog's got a viscious streak a mile wide. It's a killer! He's got huge sharp... eh. He can leap about... Look at the bones!
  16. It's the damnedest thing. She falls down a well and her eyes go crossed. She gets kicked by a mule and they go back normal. I don't know.
  17. I'm too white for legumes now too. I love baked beans, but they make me feel like I'm a pin-prick away from going full Mr. Creosote. The worst gas pressure and pungency was actually caused by eating a dozen or so cloves of garlic from a crawfish boil. That almost derailed our engagement permanently.
  18. But you've still got some great memories of Hawkeye and Hoolihan, so you got that going for you, which is nice.
  19. Saw this chicken dish on Reddit a couple days ago. I'm going to try to recreate it tomorrow night. Thinking I'll render down some bacon bits, then brown some bone-in chicken thighs in a dutch oven in the rendered fat, about 4 min/side. I'll pull the chicken, then sweat some onion and shallots in the rendered fat. Add some sliced mushrooms and whole grain mustard, then deglaze the pan with chardonnay and chicken broth. After that reduces, I'll add the chicken back, skin side up, then put the lid on and cook for 20ish minutes to cook through. I'll remove the lid and check the sauce. Finish it with some dijon and heavy cream, maybe finish off heat with some cold butter if needed. I've got some spinach tagliatelle to serve this with, but I would actually toss the pasta in the sauce, not serve on the side as shown above. Oh yeah, add the crispy bacon bits back when plating. Any suggestions?
  20. If Greedy Williams falls to 26, no way Ballard doesn't take him.
  21. My 2nd cousin and his partner have a semi-famous cupcake/sweets shop on Cannon called Sugar Bakeshop. They've been featured in several magazine articles and Martha Stewart is a big fan of their goods. I haven't been to Charleston to visit yet, but I've sent a few friends and they've all loved it. Might be a good idea to keep the wife happy, if she likes sweets.
  22. Speeding ticket was the result of a speed trap in Plantersville/Magnolia. That shit can happen to anyone. This one probably had more to do with her not taking her ADHD medicine that morning, exacerbated by period brain fog and the distraction of trying to find a solution to a problem in her private company software. She should have known better than to let her work distract her from driving, but she didn't and saw the result of that distraction. We just got her car back this morning and it looks great. She had some previous fender damage from a week after she got the car as she rubbed a parking bollard at a gas station while avoiding a leaf-blower guy in the parking lot. The shop fixed that up as well for a little extra money. All in all, the deductible + extra damage fix costed less than what I had previously had quoted for just the fender damage.
  23. Even better if kept in fridge. RIP tooth fillings.
