  1. Some oldies, but goodies: Zagnut bar Chick-o-Stick I'm a sucker for toasted coconut and peanut butter. For those uninformed - they now make coffee nut M&M's and they are delicious. No longer in production - Alpine White by Nestle
  2. And the Supreme Court has validated their expanses of power (and thus loss of civil liberties) at each and every step. Citizens need to protest this to help return some balance to our justice system.
  3. What about the new Harris County Judge, the young democrat that just replaced old Ed Emmett? Does she have any say on a 3rd party investigation? I'm guessing she and her base would be amenable to the idea.
  4. How do we put pressure on city hall to call in the Rangers?
  5. Chili is my favorite "diet" food. I'm eating my last meal of it right now. 1 C chili, 3/4 C brown rice, a little sour cream and white onion, all for under 400 calories.
  6. Nope, we’ll within my calorie allotment. Those carb balance tortillas saved me like 100 calories and a shit load of carbs and were awesome in this application.
  7. again - most punchable face in all of Houston
  8. Okay, I know this probably won't do my karma any favors, but what is the case against Acevedo here? I get that he got out in front of it as it it was a legit raid and the cops were injured by violent drug dealing thugs, but I think that probably says more about the information that was being fed to him by those involved in the aftermath of the raid than anything else. I doubt he was involved in the day-to-day dealings of the narcotics unit, other than seeing their stats. Once the real facts started coming to light, he was quick to acknowledge the fault of the officers and to start making the necessary change to ensure that this doesn't happen. Cynics (myself included) can argue that this is all window dressing to try to get the media frenzy to blow over before he is forced out of a job. Even still, that's more than you hear from most chiefs of police when shit like this happens. Circling the hero wagons doesn't seem to be his top priority as much as cleaning the department and restoring public faith. My point is that this behavior was present long before Acevedo took the position in Houston. As far as I can tell, this is the first egregious abuse of power that has come to light under his watch and he seems to be making efforts to correct it (calling out officers misconduct, working with the DA to bring about criminal charges, calling out the POU, eliminating/severely limiting no-knock raids going forward, etc.). He's making the right moves in my mind, with the only thing I'd ask for more of is a 3rd party investigation by the Texas Rangers. If he can fix this issue and can drive out the bad actors in the department, I'd have to change my opinion of him as it relates to policing.
  9. Medics were too busy trying to save the hero cop with the torn MCL.

  14. How low was the bar set for a raid to be declared a "success" that a cop could develop these sorts of tactics and without facing prior reprimands/reassignment? Seriously, had this couple not allegedly fired back at police after they shot their dog and just been arrested peacefully for the insignificant amount of drugs found in their home, would we the public have even heard of this? That is the bigger issue here. This is not an outlier. These tactics have been used in the past and the police have gotten away with it because of the lack of oversight and responsibility.
  15. No, definitely more like a layered/stacked enchilada, like utee94 said. This is a fork and knife kinda deal, not finger food like an quesadilla. I need to monitor my calories because I want to have it for supper again tonight. If I do, I'll post pics this time.
  16. Just seeing OP for the first time. Wow, I feel sick now. If these coward cops were Japanese with any sense of honor, they would have seppuku'd themselves a long time ago. May they all be haunted by their inaction to their dying days.
  17. I made what I will call a Texas chili pizza last night with some of the leftovers. Tortilla in nonstick skillet, add cheese, add pre-heated chili, add 2nd tortilla, add more cheese, more chili, fried egg (runny yolk) and some sour cream. Cover and cook about a minute, until the bottom tortilla is crisp. Sorry for no pic, but it slammed and went hard. 10/10, will make again.
  18. Was craving some more chili. I think I’m addicted to the heat how. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. News Now Houston (himself former police) has a new video out and in it, he goes over some of the performance incentives of the narcotics division. I'm guessing any narcotics arrest/investigation involving officer Goines (and potentially other dirty cops in that unit) will now be under scrutiny. This is going to cost the city taxpayers millions and millions of dollars in litigation costs, let alone the civil settlements that will likely be 10 times more in the end. This is some Serpico level shit.
  20. You're absolutely right. Same goes for the Daniel Shaver execution in Maricopa County. It went national because it was a white guy being killed by police. But as more and more cases like this come out, it should cause anyone with even a hint of intellectual honestly to go back and review the other BLM cases without prejudice, cases like Philando Castillo or Laquan McDonald (see Jason Van Dyke above). Sadly, this has been going on without mass uproar in the minority communities for a long time. Hell, Tupac was rapping about it in the 90's.
  21. Yep, I could hear the mass of Houston defense attorneys licking their collective lips in thirst whilst listening to Art’s presser yesterday. Glad I’m not a Harris County taxpayer right about now. The good news is that if it is half as bad as I suspect it is for the city, there’s no way even Acevedo could be insulated from the fallout. Heads will roll, and I’ll be there with my popcorn and lawn chair.
  22. If Kim Ogg has the balls to bring that charge, I'd shit my pants in amazement. Don't tease me like that. How much do you want to bet one of the culprit cops commits suicide before any legal action can be brought against them?
  23. My only question is qui bono? Unless the cop had a beef with the deceased, what good would it have been to plant a couple small baggies of heroin? Is a dead citizen worth whatever good comes of a very minor drug bust? I get they could use the planted drugs to justify their botched raid, but that doesn't really give a reason for why they would raid this home in the first place.
  24. I'd been away since the dark end of Shaggy. It's my favorite gif, so I used it for my avatar. I forgot that phd used it. Once I can think of a better one, I'll swap. I still miss my old one that Thujone made with Cam Newton and all his vehicular presents, but I think that's lost to the annals of the internet now.
  25. They're all "Let's wait until we have all the facts before casting aspersions." They're quick to pull the trigger on a civilian, but need to give their fellow officers the benefit of the doubt before they could be convinced to chastise them.
