  1. And I don't think you would find one person in this thread that believes there is justice in those sentences. Blame Nixon's war on drugs. Blame Reagan and Clinton for amping up that war and mandatory minimums.
  2. And one last thing. Botham's brother's statement and actions may have done more to bring about a change of heart in the police mentality than Amber's verdict. That level of humanity is so incredibly powerful that one can't help but be moved by it. By all accounts, even the deputies in the courtroom were tearing up. Maybe, just maybe, they will look for the humanity in their suspects before deciding pulling the trigger on a perp is easier than the alternative. We are all humans. We are all Children of God. Let's put an end to the us vs. them. We are all one.
  3. This felt so surreal, like it was taken from a Hollywood film. This is the peak of courtroom drama.
  4. This is as best as I could have hoped. This is how the justice system is supposed to work. These are some strong steps that should help her in her rehabilitation. Having the brother of the man you murdered wishing you the best, offering you a hug, and asking you to turn your life over to Christ is absolutely incredible. If there is a shred of humanity in Amber, I hope she let's this momentum turn her life around and bring some good into the world.
  5. It's not easy to practice what you preach. What a family. I wish nothing but the best for the Jean's.
  6. Brother of Botham just says that he personally wished she didn't have to go to jail and could just do as his brother would have wanted, and give her life over to Christ. Now he's hugging her.
  7. BLM is pissed she didn't get more. This one sentence can't right the wrongs of all the other unjustified cop killings that were acquitted and if that was their expectation, then they were destined to be disappointed. I think it's fitting sentence given the circumstances of this murder. RIP Botham Jean. You deserved better.
  8. Correct, you aren't eligible for parole until at least half of your sentence is served (or 30 years, whichever is less).
  9. I'm just surprised the State couldn't find a recording of Jean singing "This Little Light of Mine" to play before resting their case.
  10. So really she was just saving him from a slow, painful death from Listeria.
  11. No, it was a guy she was dating after the divorce that molested Amber as a child.
  12. That's his best friend from college. She took the stand before his father. She joked that after she introduced Botham to her husband that she felt like the third wheel after they hit it off so well. He used to refer to himself as their black friend. They were very close, like family.
  13. Yeah, this is hard to watch. Can't imagine being on the jury about now.
  14. I don't believe so. If the Jury accepts the Sudden Passion modifier, then the sentencing can be from 2-20 years. Just because the State isn't challenging that doesn't mean that the jury will have to accept that.
